View Full Version : Servers will likely be split...

That's right. PSO2 servers will likely be split. How can I say this? What is my proof?

In an interview with Famitsu Connect!on, Sakai talks about yet another form of currency known as Net Cafe points. When you collect Net Cafe points you can use them to trade for exclusive items. (Net Cafe’s are a shortened term for Internet Cafes, which means you’ll have to be physically present at one to get the points.)

Considering these are not popular, if they even exist, in the west this means that the servers are likely going to be split because they likely wouldn't do something that couldn't be used by all users of a given server.

Of course, they could do it still, and in typical SEGA fashion continue to screw over its western fans, but I have to think that is highly unlikely.

"Yet another form"

This implies there will be more than one form to pay with. I don't think this is actually a big deal and that we have to wait and see, not just consider it a done dead deal.

Sounds like an addendum to FUN points. Indeed, certainly Japan-centric, but hardly anything to draw that much conjecture from in my opinion. All we can do is wait and see.

That doesn't imply this at all (which is not to say that it isn't possible).

But yeah, doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Or it could just be another way to play. The online game market is focused towards kids who don't have credits cards. In Japan you can generally buy online game currency at convenience stores. Net cash could just be PSO2's credit card alternate payment method.

The servers are probably going to be split, but that's more because Sega is a company that makes great games but sucks at supplying customer service.

Wouldn't it be more likely that you get Net Cafe points by playing... at net cafes? Wouldn't be the first MMORPG that rewards players by playing there.

That's the way it'll work. I'd guess that the items you could get with those points would be normally available items will a special suffix, like the promo items.

Anyways, shared servers doesn't mean shared content.

Are they Net Cafes OR are they places where they just happen to have internet access, but primarily sell coffee or something else. We have tons of the latter (McDonalds and Starbucks for example), but, the former, I don't know of any that exists around where i live.

Didn't stop Maplestory from having net cafe-exclusive stuff on the Global servers.

Doesn't mean anything unless those net cafes are actually working together with SEGA.

the larger one has rows of computers as well as some gaming consoles set up for rent on an hourly basis, the other joint just had coffee and a lot of large TVs unless they had a back room with computers+^_^+ both are privately owned local businesses+^_^+ it's a college town so for 8 months out of the year we have a pop boost of at least another 50K of poor computer-less dorm living college students+^_^+

this is true, i doubt they will as PSO2 is japan only right now+^_^+ and even if they localize I'll still be on JP servers after what they did to 360 PSU+^_^+

Many games released in the west have had Net Café perks, nothing new, and no sign that the servers will be split.

There's no evidence here as brought up previously that these internet cafe points are a unique form of currency as opposed to an alternative to cash. It can't be said conclusively that this will relate at all with a server split.

it's was over 2 years behind JP PSU, and only now starting to catch up, it's also lucky to have 1 event every 2-3 months+^_^+ idk what sort of miscommunication there is between SoJ and SoA, but it sux. that's why ima stick to the JP servers now+^_^+

Most likely it will be split.

Even JP population are already split among themselves (each ship is its own server, and characters on 1 ship can not interact with characters on other ship).

I won't be surprised non-JP PSO2 get way late update and poor support. :-?

It is so far much closer to PSU than it is PSO.

I'm ready.

I don't think this bit of information is proof enough to justify split servers, but that question in general still seems to be up in the air.

I thought the servers are already split in 5 ships during the beta tests

I find it funny how this random tidbit of speculation is the OP's reasoning for thinking the servers are going to split, and not because the Japanese don't really like us playing with them very much.

Be glad 360 gets updates at least, they just suddenly cut off the PC/PS2 servers...

i think that's got to do with a contract between SEGA and M$, they can't shut them down i don't think so they leave it on the back burner and occasionally repeat RoF and MAG events to keep people paying+^_^+ that's my theory anyway+^_^+

If this is a problem just play on the Japanese server with an English patch. I can care less if I am with English players or not, as long as I know what the heck I am doing.
