View Full Version : Genuine Newbie Taking Advice!

Hello,

I have owned this game since it's release, and completed the offline mode shortly after. I never picked up the online version until a few days ago, while in a nostalgic and expectant frame of mind in anticipation of PSO2. (I have HUUUGE hours clocked up on DC, GC, and XB versions of PSO!)

So, I can honestly say that the online experience (XB360) of PSU has me utterly bemused as a complete Newbie to it!

I've got myself to level 17 so far (I don't have the same amount of spare time as I had with PSO!) and am thoroughly enjoying it, but I really have no direction in mind for my PSU online experience. (I will always play Hunter, purely melee, no interest in techs or ranged weapons.)

I guess what I'm looking for is knowledge and advice regarding the best things about PSU, the things that you all take for granted, and think that everyone should know about, that I know nothing of..

Where to go for those side quests and more interesting missions.. The best areas or quests to level up fastest with, and where the more valuable drops tend to occur.. Basically, all the things that I knew about PSO, for PSU!

A mentor I suppose..

Anyone got any advice for a genuine Newbie?

As an ex-Xbox player I can only give you slightly outdated information, but here goes.

For a pure Melee guy, you probably want to be a CAST. Beast gets a slightly higher ATP score, but the CAST gets much much higher accuracy (all the more important up close!) and an SUV, which is a much better special ability than the Beast's Nanoblast. Humans and Newmans get no special, and are both more geared towards techs than Beasts or CASTs (which you've said you have no interest in).

For your class, your melee options are Fortefighter (highest ATP), Fighmaster (faster with heavy melee weapons, lv50 skills, but a narrow range of equipment), Fighgunner (supposedly part gunner but who are they kidding? Excellent fighter class with more options than a FF) and Acrofighter (a light-weapon specialist with the same attack speed bonus as Fighmaster).

Fighmaster requires lv10 Fortefighter and Fighgunner, so you'll likely have to try both of those anyway. Fortefighter needs Hunter lv10. Fighgunner needs Hunter 10, Ranger 3, and Acrofighter needs Hunter 3, Ranger 5. You can go over these minimum requirements, so don't worry if you overshoot.

The mission you can do for easy levels solo is Innocent Girl, which is at the front desk of the GRM shop on Parum. Early on you might take a few beatings, but once you get used to it you can come out with a decent haul of EXP.

Check the 5th floor for events. I don't know if there's an event on at the moment or not, last I checked the Guardians Chronicle 2 was running, but don't hold me to that. Events generally give better EXP, mission points, and drops than the normal missions around the world.

Once you hit level 60 or so, my favourite mission for drops used to be Forest Infiltration S2. Easy enough to solo, despite being an S2-rank mission. It's on Neudaiz at the Agata Islands lobby. Some nice drops from the boss that aren't too ridiculously rare: Degahna Cannon board and Sori/Mind were good for money at the time. Do check the shops though to see if it's worth your time. Plus it's somewhere people don't tend to go, so it helps keep the game fresh.

Most people head to White Beast outside of events too. It's at the Pavilion of Air (top) lobby on Neudaiz, and is notoriously easy compared to the instakill-filled dark missions the game loves to throw at us elsewhere. Bring a sleep/resist unit as soon as you can afford one.

Check the player shop for bargains, search by condition for cool stuff. Use keywords like "striking", "dark" and "+10" (without the ") to find all striking weapons, all dark weapons, and all 10/10 weapons for example. Chances are you'll be able to get something usable for ridiculously cheap compared to the effort it'd take you to find it.

Aaaand, that's about it, I guess? Message me if anything's unclear, or if you can think of anything else to ask about. I'd hop on and help you out but my subscription expired a year ago ^^

Thank you! Some good tips there, from a fellow Yorkshireman I see!

I tried the Innocent Girl quest a couple of times last night, and got my arse kicked by a few unexpected events, like the exploding keycard, and those dang turrets!

I'm up to level 26 now, and hoping to be touching 60 by the time the current event ends in June.

I'm really regretting not taking my PSU experience online when it was in it's heyday to be honest, I honestly can't see why so many people disliked it..

Anyway, back to The Guardian Colony, thanks for the advice, any more from anyone else is welcome!
