Yeah that's supposed to happen in Protected Mode. This way malicious programs can't just edit anything they want in memory.

(Re-install if updating doesn't work. This is usually a sign that the program is corrupted.)

Yeah, that's supposed to happen. Leave it open for two hours, and at the end of the second hour a rainbow will appear. Taste the rainbow, then PSO2 will load up.

What?

What?

Well how else is everyone playing this game? We wait and taste the rainbow.

Or learn what segfaults are, but that's the boring route.

is that Vista i see? might i suggest rebooting, then try run as admin+^_^+ if that doesn't work, uninstall, then reinstall in the root of the drive "C:\SEGA\....." all i can say is with Vista your missing some critical system updates, being the Win 7 update (Win 7 is almost identical to vista underneath the GUI, just fixed)+^_^+ also don't forget common maintainance rutines like the disk cleanup utility and disk defragmenter utility+^_^+

What are your computer specifications? Especially your graphics card.

I think I understood that...but not really...

My laptop can run the character Creator so I assumed the game should work too. Psobb did the same thing if I clicked the wrong client. ******** had like three ways to boot it in its folder and only one would work.

I tried downloading the client from Sega but it would stop and error at 35%. So I downloaded the one that Neoistheone uploaded. It went through patched twice. Once from the third option and once from launching the game. But then this happens.

OK it works now. I installed more RAM and changed my settings to fullscreen and it worked. Hopefully that RAM upgrade was enough to play without major lag. I have 2GB now. 2005 laptop running vista.

I'm surprised you were ever able to run Vista and any games like PSO2 with less than 2GB RAM, tbh. That definitely had to be part of the problem. Sounds like you REALLY need to upgrade to a new computer.

I used to have 1GB of RAM in my laptop with Windows Vista (now it has 2GB and Windows 7), and it used to work fine at the time.
I didn't play much games in it though, mostly just PSU.

You never know if you can run shit when you're under the minimum requirements.

I was able to run PSU on a PC that had a RIVA TNT2 card in it. (Yeah, I know.) Whats the cost? Well the game looked like shit, some graphics were missing and it ran like shit. It was somewhat playable though. I can share some screenshots but I'd rather post them in the PSU screenshot thread so go there if you wanna see them. I'll post em tonight.

That's your problem. If you can't upgrade, go to task manager and learn about any programs your system absolutely doesn't need and close them.

Once you manage to not cause your system to automatically shut down, open the game, and if it starts up alright, try ending the 'explorer.exe' process. To bring it back just go to File>New Task (Run...) in Task Manager and type in "explorer".

2GB is extremely few. Having 4GB should be enough though and possibly cheap to upgrade if you have access to the RAM slots.

(Honestly this is not a recommended solution unless you know what you're doing)

I'm actually still baffled on how Vista even ran on 1GB of RAM. I could never get my Vista install to use less than 1GB on it's own.

I don't think my question warranted it's own thread, so I'm going to hijack this one since I'm also having a problem with the client. It runs fine on my desktop but I tried installing it on my laptop and I'm getting this problem:

Whenever I press "Game Start" a patcher just comes up and freezes on this exact point in the bar:

Not sure what's up.

My specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Edition 64
CPU: i5 @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 6 GB
GPU: GeForce GT 555M

Are you sure that it's frozen? All my download attempts start at that point with a lengthy pause before progressing.

It would do that to me too. It was just taking a long time. try just letting it run for a while. I let it patch while playing maplestory in the background.

Off-topic to your question: I use game booster which frees up your ram for when you play games. that might have something to do with my computer running stuff no problem.

this+^_^+ another option you may try (and this may only get you to the title screen) but you can install a 32 bit copy of Win XP, it uses about half the resources Vista uses, but a 2005 laptop? best invest in something with 4+ GB RAM and a vid card, with a laptop, i wouldn't go any lower vid card wise then a gt 540m+^_^+

Lol I'm way past the title screen with little lag. I just had to fullscreen it. My 05 vista with 2gb runs stuff like a pro o.o
