Is it possible to ruin a character in this game, stat-wise?

Just wondering if anything you do to your character is permanent basically as far as any stats you have control of.

The most you can do is screwing up your skill build and not being as effective as you could be.

Yes, you can, by giving your Mag wrong stat points or selecting terrible skills. The only way to fix it afterwards is to pay.
