Question about open maps

Hey, my first post here! hi everyone!

I got a little question, I got to some forest maps where I could see other people running around, and when they kill stuff, I see things drop and EXP comes up to, do those count for me? Does everyone just get their own drops and everything i see drop is just mines? I'm curious cause they never pick up the items.
I'm not really too sure about this, I don't really pick up any of the items from other peoples kills because i kinda feel like I'm stealing them :/

All drops you see are yours. Other people get their own drops. So don't worry about stealing anything.

In fact, I found my only red box (rare rifle) without even seeing the enemy it dropped from!
