So I was soloing in a locked room on night and I got a window saying two people wanted to join my party, i accepted and they joined. I believe they were NPCs but normally the NPCs in the quests dont show up next to my character name and dont go to the boss with me, but they did.
I was wondering if its just random or something else?

Are you sure they were NPC's?

Considering this is a Japanese beta they could have just been players with Japanese names XD

All NPC on fiend have "!" next to their names. So its quite obvious if they are npc or players.

Can you tell the difference between a human from an NPC OP?

Lucky i know japanese and can understand what they were saying and its the same thing NPC say, unless they just mimic them but I cant see how they could get into my locked room. My password would have been impossible to guess

This happened to me as well, twice last night actually. Was soloing and got a gold-colored Emergency Code when something on the order of 15 Darkers spawned. Suddenly, Risa jumps out of the tall grass and starts shooting up the place and, after we wipe them out, she disappears. Second time it happened, only 2 missions later, it was Xeno.

I thought it was a great surprise and a nice little feature to have.

That's what I was going to say originally, but he said the NPC's stayed with him right up through the boss battle >.<

I don't think so, it was the first Forest Lv 3 mission, I was farming Fongulf fangs for Coffee.

There are escort missions where you have to cover an NPC while you kill stuff. You can't let them get knocked out twice.

Well it does tell you in Japanese. The quest you are doing contains a multiparty area, and there is someone else in the multi party area with the greyed out NPC already in their party.
The radio button just below the password box allows you to be able to say that you don't want to see other parties, and doing this will always allow you to choose whatever npcs you want.

Oh thats less cool then I imagined :x Was thinking they went like a .hack route and npc can only be summoned occasionally because they have their own lives.

Aww, no .hack route? Well that ruins my hope of running into Tsukasa. Darn.

Well, I guess it is more to do with the fact that it is odd going into a multi party area and there being 3 copies of an NPC, right?
