Importing Images to Symbol Chat?

Okay, normally I'd feel like an idiot asking this question, but unless some of the community is absurdly talented (though I have no artistic talent so maybe it's not that impressive..) I feel some people are importing images.

If anyone could help me out with this or just tell me if this is true or not that'd be helpful. Currently want to work on the guild Insignia I've used since PSO GC (it's on the right of my sig) but would be a ton easier to import than to redesign it. :)

You can probably share the art files with other people by putting it somewhere in your PSO2 folder.

I want to say you can't only because I remember Sakai making jokes about the crazy symbol art people would make if there was a separate program similar to the character creator that people could use to import symbol art.

I think you can only import stuff other people have made in Symbol Art. Some people are just really talented at Symbol Art I guess....

Closest thing is to put it in your guild card and never use it. There's no lock anyway.

Quite stupid if you ask me, not worth it spending so much time making something good. Since it won't be exklusive on your character, if you create something good everyone will then use it.

You can catch and view peoples symbolarts and see the parts they are built from,
admittedly if you had 500% zoom it would be easier ><

And to answer your question, you could theoretically 'make a tool' to import pictures, SEGAteam obviously do have one, as there is rappy and pso2 logo pictures in the last column of symbolart create.

They REALLY REALLY did spend MANY HOURS to figure out the whole thing. They even had to choose to sacrifice certain things for others due to limitation on numbers of pieces you can have.

They convinced me to go watch "smile precure" and see if it was really that good of a show/character to deserve such dedication.

Currently, I fear leaving the JP pso2, because I absolutely believe we will just end up with all those shitty penis ass vagina symbol art if we don't have JP player running around spamming their awesome symbol art.

I'd be proud if people constantly spammed something i created+^_^+ after all imitation (or endless copying) is the best for of flattery+^_^+ I'd try to make something, but i vowed not to touch anything to do with symbols art or macros until i get the menus in English+^_^+

I'm not sure if you can group frames yet. But I'll find out for you when I have time.

You can increase the canvas size from the right hand drop down menu. You can also zoom in using the +/-. I suggest you take a look at this link as it has an image with most translations on it. http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195744

There's already a ton of Madoka symbol art, you can't underestimate the Japanese.

As I understand it, you can swap .sar files, however, you need to have them numbered properly and they overwrite your saved images.

Edit: Ok, think i figured it out

All .sar files you have seen in game are stored in C:\Users\%username%\Documents\SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONL INE2\symbolarts\cache\
If you place your cache or other .sar files into C:\Users\%username%\Documents\SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONL INE2\symbolarts\import\
You can then them up on game by going to the symbol arts, going to tab 4, and clicking the text, it will then import.
The problem is that all the symbol arts file names are done in hex. I do not know if there is a method to the madness. The name of the file does not seem to matter.
I also think it is possible to acquire Symbol arts by replacing C:\Users\%username%\Documents\SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONL INE2\symbolarts\user\%account_string%\ files with files of the same name. I will get back to you guys.

Edit 2: Yup, you can replace stock#.sar files with a different .sar file with the same name in the user folder. alternatively, if you know your badass art is on stock0.sar, you can rename it and send it to people.

The 4th tab (I think it's that one) in the symbol chats seems to be pulling everything from the Sega folder in my documents or something. I went through the trouble of trying to import them when everything was just in that tab.

The colors are all layered on top of each other to create depth. Lighter on darker. That's why they look "realistic". The companion cube looks like your average 10 minutes in microsoft paint art, though

shockingly none of the art created is imported images, u can copy the symbol art people made and edit it to see how its made (all the parts). i did that with the top left 1 with the black person and u can see its made up of tons of little parts lol

My question is where people get the paitence to actually morph the shapes into what they want, including color, stretching, rotating, getting that smudged effect and not going insane.

I'm sure if Sega doesn't, someone will release a program to make them offline. I mean, it's just a bitmap with 1's and 0's like anything else. Some sort of work around has to be out there that could be implemented.

Just emulate the editor, the ability to import is visible, take a hexeditor, the programmers screwdriver or so I'm told, and pick it apart at those sar files. The data is there, I'm pretty sure the sar file is just data/positioning put together, so if people have the patience for art, someone will prob make the program.

I can't imagine it to hard to break the file it's self. It's making a program to do it externally.

I would love it if we could just draw our own symbol chats.
I had so much fun doing that in PSZero. With all of the extra options we can use now in PSO 2, like colors and gradients, oh man...
PSO 2's system makes me feel as though Sega is making us take a step backward with custom symbols. Not only that, but it takes too long to make a well designed symbol, and moving very small pieces can get really frustrating when you want them to go in just the right angle.
Even so, it's still way better than what PSO gave us.

It's possible people use the same method as the painters on Forza Motorsport who make the amazing liveries.

Get tracing paper, trace down the lines from an image, then overlay it on the screen. Fill it in with the shapes in symbol chat.

I want to try symbol chat on this but it feels like such an unintuitive interface for it. Used to spend days making liveries in Forza 3/4.

Because not everyone is on the same ship. My method would allow you to just put the .sar file on mediafire and let everyone get it...

I don't think I will take the time to create something unique to my character that I will see 50 other people using. There needs to be an option to not share (assuming one already hasn't been found).

There is a way to save the pictures others post as. I'll make a mini guide later. Otherwise, I do not believe there is a simple picture importer option atm. It is all just really skilled people with lots of time on their hands lol!

I have made some myself, and it's really not too difficult if you are used to Photoshop, just very tedious. Every image is it's own layer, but with shortcuts to move them up or down (-, +, ctrl+e, etc) it'll make things go by easier. Again, I should make a mini guide for this as well. XD

I just made my PSO2 30% transparent, then had it overtop of a paint window with the picture I wanted. Then it's just a matter of arranging the shapes.

It'll give you an idea of the process of some of the better ones. Unfortunately, I think PSO2's shape limit is capped at 255 (lol 255,) and the editor isn't quite that good in game.

All you need to do is back up the symbol arte data in your Symbol Art folder located in your Sega/Phantasy Star Online2 folder in your Documents to keep what you already have from JP PSO2. Then when NA Release hits just paste it all back into the folder when you install it. 8-)
