For people that like to tweak their graphic setting, but feel that Sega doesn't provide enough tool or option, there is an option available.
FXAA Injector
http://www.assembla.com/spaces/fxaa-pp-inject/documents

To use, Download and install the program into the same folder as the 3D program.
For PSO2, that would be

Character Creator
SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONLINE2_CHARACTERCREATOR\pso2char actercreator_bin

PSO2 Main game
C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONLINE2\pso2_bin

[SPOILER-BOX]After installing, use FXAA_Tool.exe to tweak the setting

And after starting the game, these are the key
Pause - Enable or Disable the Shaders
prtscrn - Take Screenshot

My advice, use the Character Creation to check your FXAA setting.
So Tweak it iwth the FXAA_Tool.exe, save it, launch the Character creator.
And remember, any change made while the CC is active won't be reflected till you restart it.

Think I've decided one of these two would be best for me.

Hm, I'll be honest; I don't see much of a difference.

How different are these settings you're using? I know the FXAA injector works really well on Skyrim but I presume the settings might be a lot different than the ones you're using.

I notice the difference and it looks like it's trying to add more depth but it mostly comes across as almost adding a cell shaded effect to it. Which is kinda neat in it's own way. Don't think I'll use it all the time but that would interesting to experiment with. Cell Shaded PSO2...

Setting 1 is the only one worth having IMO. And thats for the option to turn the game into an anime theme. Ive seen other games with this option but dont use it.

Setting 1 makes it look like it's doing edge highlighting which honestly makes it look terrible.

the game isn't in an anime theme already?

It... works, but the game looks a lot worse with it, so what was the point again?

It's a tool available for anyone to try their hand at tweaking shaders to make the graphic more suitable for their needs.
As the shader options offered by Sega in PSO2 is very few and no way to change it.
So if you want to try it, you can, as this topic is to let people aware of this tool.
If you don't want to use it, no one is forcing you to use it.

And Better or worse is subjective, what is terrible to you, would be the type of graphic someone else want.

One question. WHY?

Its a particular setting to give the user a "sketched" feel.

One question. WHY?

One answer, Why not?
And I think I already answered it in the previous post.
It gives more option, where Sega's shader option is limited to True/False.
This tools allow you to tweak AA, blur/sharpen, Lighting(HDR/Bloom) Tone, etc.
By specific numbers, although in a easy to use tool format.

Or use the Nvidia control panel and Manage the settings through there?

Thats if you have a Nvidia GPU

That only gives you the option to tweak/enable AA.
Not Bloom/HDR, tone, blur/sharpen, Sepia, etc.

One question. WHY?

some people spend their time tweaking the game appearance for the benefit of others

just like some people spend all their time dancing in lobby and not actually playing the game

one is actually more beneficial to the community as a whole

Your right my apology's, on top of the Nvidia setting you can use this isn't there also another alternate? I think someone posted a thread about it.

There's SMAA injector, it's another AA Shader, but I haven't seen it offer a tool like FXAA.
http://mrhaandi.blogspot.tw/p/injectsmaa.html

Or you might be talking about the ENBserie, haven't tried it on PSO2 either.
http://enbdev.com/index_en.html

For me personally, the game's saturation is too light, making color look wash-out to me, so I use this to tweak saturation, and lighting/bloom to my liking.
This FXAA is kind of not easy to tweak, since it tend to make thing blurry.

But I just started tweaking it with PSO2, so if other try or find other similiar tool, please share.

any performance boost out of it?

Jun 28, 2012, 04:30 PM
Anti-Aliasing, custom shaders and such stuff puts an additional strain on your machine. So I doubt it.

Then again, maybe that program has an option to turn some of the stuff off for better performance, too.

Not necessarily, i wouldn't mess with it unless 1. you know what your doing and or 2. want the game to look better, your better off lowering your FXAA all the way down if you want better performance. If you have an Nvidia card go into your control panel and manage your 3D Applications, you have a whole slou of things you can change and can even turn off FXAA if you really want to. But due to the Performance of the lowest setting i suggest keeping the lowest setting on as it does barely anything and will make the game look better then having it completely off.

i just asked since pso2's shader is probbly not the most efficient one. so forcing another one could lead to good results. but i understand what youre saying. i dont have shaders on cuz it lags on desert "storm"

FXAA makes everything look too washed out for my taste, interesting post though.

Cool stuff, thanks for this! I didn't really know you could do this :D! I had a little play around and came up with some interesting results lol. I don't really understand most of the options (technically), so I can't really optimized it for improvement. Though, I would of been much better off if you could adjust and see the 'after' while the game is playing, but you can't :P!

I like the your Cell shaded screeny though :D!

I've been meaning to mess with an injector but kept putting it off due to other things. I'll probably take a quick look at it again because I do like messing with shaders a whole lot. I find it fun.

Ah! I didn't expect this to work with PSO2 (most online games refuse any sort of DLL injection to prevent cheating), but now that I know it does...

Well, I messed with the settings some to help alleviate what I feel is a flat, washed-out looking image:

Before:

It may be a little over-saturated, but I must admit that I'm fond of the look. Note that I am using ambient occlusion in these shots (yes, it works in the character creator as well).

Does this in anyway affect the PSE boost sparkles? For some reason they crash my game so i've been trying to find a way around them or how to get rid of them.

Zyrusticae
Jun 29, 2012, 10:04 AM
@pikachief, No, it won't affect those in anyway. It's just a post-processing effects tool, nothing more.

Messing with the settings a bit more, updated my previous post with newer, less blown-out shots. Sharpening is probably a bit excessive now, but I'm really happy with the color and contrast.

This thing is so much fun to tweak and mess around with!

Update: Tried this on the actual game, only resulted in an inevitable crash about a minute in. Possibly related to gameguard.

Film grain. Add it. Take pics plz. Film grain makes a helluva difference in Mass Effect 3.

Anyone know how to get this running without the inevitable crash ingame? Or would that require bypassing gameguard?

Look at the edges, you can tell from once screen shot to the other that the edges are getting smoother and smoother, I have problems with FXAA, it makes the steam overlay look blurry.

Have you gotten it to work with PSO2 ingame?

Graphics? what? I don't see any difference in any of those pictures.... This reminds me of that whole 360 skyrim vs sony 3rd skyrim comparison arguement.

Yes, add PSO2.exe to the steam apps and then make sure that you have -pso2 after the path then run steam as an administrator.
Don't want to hijack the thread, if you want more info PM me.

Seems to be a GameGuard issue, Think there's any other shader injectors that GameGuard won't crash?
