Skies doesn't have you scaling the giant land battleship to take it out.

That thing definitely looks like we can climb onto it.

I really want to like this game because I was a huge fan of PSO and I didn't like PSU at all, but it's getting increasingly hard to like it and this whole 'roadmap' is a bad joke.
While playing the open beta and found myself doing the same things over and over due to the level progression not being straightforward. The new ideas are very counter-intuitive IMO and only annoy the player (especially since it's all in japanese).
Making players wait for all the new content makes me think that this is still a beta and an incomplete game.
The gameplay is fun, but nothing revolutionary and if Sega keeps it up with this type of business model, players like me will find this experience lackluster at best.

So let me get this straight, you want a game with just a bunch of content and huge updates like 3-4 months down the road as opposed to monthly content releases that will keep the game fresh.

Times like this I wish I saved reaction images.

Yes, I'm new to online games.

The only online games I have ever played are EverQuest, Asheron's Call, Shadowbane, Dark Age of Camelot, Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Online Version 2, Phantasy Star Online Episode 1&2, Ragnarok Online, Phantasy Star Universe, Spiral Knights, Rusty Hearts, World of WarCraft, Tera, RIFT, and Phantasy Star Online 2.

they did roadmaps like this for PSU JP. Which if I recall correctly, from my own experience, was updated quite frequently and consistently. I'm expecting the same from PSO2.

Well, in that case, I somehow fail to see how a regular update schedule is any way evocative of a "weird PSU vibe", considering it is pretty much the same thing as any other online game on the market (or better, considering it is ACTUAL CONTENT and not just re-skinned old content).

Also, the original PSO, outside of the fresh new game discs (which you had to pay for, I might add), pretty much had no content updates. Using it as a reference point would mean you'd have largely static content for most of the game's run. I fail to see how that is somehow an improvement.

Furthermore, the US PSU was TERRIBLY behind the JP PSU in updates, so if that's why you're getting a "weird PSU vibe", you should toss it out with the rest of your preconceptions. JP PSO2 is not at all like US PSU. Not even close.

EN PSO2 though, that one I wouldn't be surprised if it got the same bad treatment that EN PSU got. :>
But yeah, that PSO2 roadmap looks great, and, based on JP PSU, by the time the content in this list is released, there will be a new roadmap listing the content that will come next. ^^

This is exactly what I want to know. Introducing new classes other than Force, Hunter, and Ranger seems like a pretty big development. What could they be? (Never really played PSU, so forgive me if that had some classes that I am unaware of)

Darki
Jul 4, 2012, 10:06 PM
Unless they decided to add bew "roles" as primary classes (like, "Stealth", "Medic", "Trapper" or some name like that) I'd say they'd go with hybrids. I hope they don't fuck them up like in PSU.

Polly
Jul 4, 2012, 10:10 PM
Unless they decide to do something weird like vanguard, acromaster and protranser, or entirely different things (stealth, medic, trapper or something like that) I'd suppose that they'd add hybrid classes.

I really hope they find a new direction to go and it isn't just hybrid classes (but it will be, because that's what people want). I'd like them to tread new territory for the series since this is a sequel, and not just fall back on things because they're familiar and easy. I also like how all three classes right now are unique and different enough that I'd be happy with just those three, and they could easily build around them as time goes forward. Everybody can fill a unique role in a team, and when hybrids get introduced, that can diminish because you don't need much in the area of team dynamic anymore.

I worry that new hybrid classes would make "pure" classes obsolete. I like that as a Hunter I have to be careful and aware of enemy patterns and not just tank it to the face and spam the Resta key (which is what a lot of people really want hybrids for anyway.) I hope they can keep pure classes exciting and not go class crazy like they did with PSU.

But this game is not PSU. You can't just tank a mob and then pop a Resta, hell, you can't even pop a trimate either now that they have animation and cooldown. One of the features that made me play PSU was actually hybrid classes. I like hybrid roles much more than pure ones, so I'd prefer to get my wartecher back and be able to whack things with a big sword and big techs too.

The closest thing I can see them implementing would be a multi-party boss. (that was suggested by Olaf, wasn't my idea.)

Full on raids? I doubt it, highly.

The idea of fighting some massive form of Dark Falz alongside 11 other people is alluring, I'll admit.

I hope this game makes as drastic zone changes as Episode 1 through 4 did. I like what we have now, but I'm wondering if they'll amp it up a bit over time. The concept art for PSU was amazing, but there's entire zones that just never came to be, even on the JP version. The game took such a different turn as well.

PS series has all this amazing potential and just never seems to go all in on it. Everyone wants to point fingers at SEGA but it makes me sort of hope that someone would even attempt to clone it a do MORE. Don't get me wrong, I love the series and everything as it is, but there's just so much that could be done.

Bah. At least we have weather now.

Some color is nice to see. I'm tiring of the pastels you see on so many weak points and in the lava in the caves. I miss the "gah why would they put something this bright next to something that dark" lava of pso1.

I'm much happier with the tundra though, for sure.

>Massive techno tree
>Nobody on PSO World picks up on what it is despite probably playing thousands of hours of PSO

=/

PSO2 takes places a couple hundred years after PSO, hence the "AP" time stamps, it stands for "After Pioneer"

That middle image is of Ragol, 2 centuries after the events of PSO. Thats not a 'Techno Tree'. Look closer. Its the Totem from the Forest area, overgrown with plant life because of all the time thats passed. It even has the engravings on it. That ring around it is most likely some sort of containment device, put in place as a precaution after the events PSO ended.

Given that the Floating Islands is confirmed coming NEXT after the Mines update, and the Darker Homeworld is coming last as its the end game content, the only conclusion one can draw is that we visit the middle area, Ragol, in a search for clues to the origins of the darkers and where they come from.

Quite possibly, the last image might not be a reference to a darker 'homeworld' but the Ruins area on Ragol itself, reimagined. Thats actually the most likely case since each planet introduced always has 2 areas to it.

Naberuis - Forest, Tundra

Amduscia - Volcanic Caverns, Floating Islands

Lilipa - Desert, Subterranean Mines

Ragol - (I'm gonna guess from the art here) Main Dome Site Area, Ruins

Nice!

So the final world is a next gen reimagining of Ragol. I'm definitely down for this

I'm definitely down for this
[/SPOILER-BOX]
I have no idea what is that "totem" thing you are reffering to.
BUT, there is a giant tree on Naberius, so this could also be it.
Edit: in fact, you can even see the tundra in the distance.

I thought pso2 took 10 years after pso though, 'cause of something that Afin said. Unless I read it wrong/didn't remember right.

Afin does make a reference to something that happened 10 years ago making them have less ARKS and needing more recruits.

Though I would of guessed that the event was the Purple guy revolting against the ARKS and forming the D-Arkers aka the Dark ARKs and taking a bunch of ARKS soldiers with him or something. Hes most likely working under the influence or that 'Dark Force' thats in every PS game *cough*

The game constantly shows the date and its something like "AP 238". 238 years after the pioneer accident or whatever

I don't even care what else we're getting, I just wanna see that Darker place and I really, really hope it conjures the mystique of the Ruins of PSO. LOVE that place's atmosphere, and the music... oh, boy!

Didn't Pioneer 2 initiate the colonization of Ragol at the end of Episode III? Does PSO2 indicate that "Emergency Code : Colonization" ended up failing disastrously or...what's the deal there?

Going by the end of Episode III we were all left to assume Ragol became the home planet.

I thought the whole colonization of Ragol was corrupt from the beginning because of the experiments with the Gene flow or whatever with Pioneer 1's scientists? The first colony just disappeared and the government kept it hush hush or something. PSO's story was fuzzy to me. But I hope PSO2's story fleshes out some of that creepiness back. (It won't)

(It won't)Colonizing Ragol was an issue for the "Arkz" group, renegade hunters essentially.

The parasitic gene that turned Flowen (and arguably rico as well?) was essentially destroyed at the end of episode III. Pollux and Castor were failed experiments to clone the twin daughters of a dude named Red using the gene (isn't Sil'fer one as well, just, not affected by the gene?). Once it was destroyed, the story leads us to believe that Pioneer 2 is given the a-ok to land and colonize.

I'm not sure if there was any government conflict from that point but that's just what the story implies.

Well, if Blue Burst meant anything, it showed that the only colonizing was more scientists doing more dastardly things with their military operation

Well, if Blue Burst meant anything, it showed that the only colonizing was more scientists doing more dastardly things with their military operationEpisode 4 actually really had nothing to do with the main story line.

A meteor hit the planet and it contained a big scary monster. That was it. The absolute origins of said monster assuming it's not just some random vicious alien are up for debate.

So I'm not sure where you gather that.

Did Episode 4 even have a storyline? I remember trying to make sense of it, and thinking how it was kind of silly that a random meteor hit the planet and happened to have a living alien in it that didn't die from the impact.

Surely they had more going on than just that...right?

No, it hit their military operation, which was their colony
The story was subtle because that's how PSO ep.1 handled it

My only complain with this roadmap that it takes pretty long for the next level cap. I heard it's gonna be in October or something, that's 3 months of EXP FULL =/ Rather had it seen in that mid scale summer update or at the time they release that summer festival scratch.

Better level up those other classes!

Perhaps the new classes will give us something to do, too.

There is no Official Meaning to "AP" at the moment since we don't know enough of the story to make After Pioneer stick it could be one of the other's. BB and ep.4 came before Ep.3 and they had landed on Ragol in the end of Ep.3. PSO2 could be the bridge to the other game/s.

and lol at Vader, Just shoot him in the rear = free kill, since the transform part is the top part of the deck ... motherbrain look-a-like with a base that moves or a very big based Deghana form PSU.

Meh, even with all the classes at 40 there's still plenty of rare hunting, grinding, affixing, mag feeding to keep you busy for months. Get all your weapons to +10!

Ep4 was a bit of an detour from that, so it makes sense.

I'm wanting to do a +50 element vol scale. I've worked it out, and it's affordable if I cherry pick elements and element percentages, but I want to know more about the damage calculations and figure out if I should just spend the same amount of money on an entirely new sword...

Well, increasing the element on my assault rifle from like 21% up to 50% made my shotgun PA go from ~1050 damage to ~1250 against a Digger's head

Better level up those other classes!

Perhaps the new classes will give us something to do, too.

New classes appear same time as the level cap so that will take a while as well.

And I'm slowly leveling my FO class with just CO's cause it's a waste of EXP to take them on as a Hunter. Ranger will remain untouched probarly because I plan a alt that will be Ranger.

Even so I still think they should have increased 50 a bit earlier. Also there is no mention of a level cap increase to 60 for the rest of the year so far. I hope sega will change that.
