Hey folks,

I'm coming to the party quite late but I have been a PSO fan since playing PSO on the dreamcast.

Of course I'm eager to play but surprisingly I can't speak or read Japanese :p And it seems uncertain when/if there will be an English version of the game.

So what would you suggest? Is it even possible for me to buy and play the game now it has been released in Japan? If so are there guides on how to do this? I keep getting stuck with the security phrase authenticators.

Security phrase? Do you mean the authenticate code they send your e-mail when you try to sign into the client?

You dont buy the game, its Free to play, Free to download with micro-transactions(AC) added which are optional. There are some guides that translate the client.

Edit: Most translated guides are in the PSO2 guide section but here you go.

Ah okay I see, didn't realise it was free.

No I meant the Catcha Phrase thing, it's on the main Sega page when you try to login with your ID. It's just a security key to check you aren't a computer but I can't type in Japanese character haha.

Okay so there are guides on how to get the client? Excellent now I just need to hunt one down!

Actually everyone with Windows can type in Japanese. You simply need to enable your Japanese keyboard IME. If you don't want/know how to do that though you can simply look up 'katakana' on wikipedia which provides you with a text chart of every katakana. All of Sega's captchas are in Katakana, so you may use the chart to copy and paste the characters you need.

I actually tried something similar previously but not with wikipedia. So I will maybe give that another go and hope for more success. Thank you very much for the advice :)

Good luck! Most of the English speaking players are on Ship 2.

Just so you know as you are picking a ship, currently ships 1-4 are filled and you cannot create a new character on those ships, and ship 5 is about 90% full. This restriction is expected to last a couple weeks. So if you want to play now you'll have to create a character on ship 6-10.

there is currently a campaign being held by PSO2 for people making a character on one oof those ships

I would suggest ship 10 as that has the largest english community next to ship 2 I believe... or if you must be on ship 2 you'll have to wait it out.

Or go here: http://bumped.org/psublog/category/phantasy-star-online-2/

It's the best resource currently available for non-Japanese players. It has great tutorials on how to register and everything.

There's also an alternative download (there is a thread somewhere on this forum) that has much better download speeds than the Sega downloader.
