I've had this problem for awhile. Even if all of my volume settings in the game are maxed, and I still can't hear a thing. I've tried even re-installing the game, still no sound. :-?

Try reinstalling direct x, this seemed to solve the problem for a few others who had this issue.

Well, that still didn't work. I didn't even download the client. Even when I did, there's still no sound. :/

Is it only with this game? Are you using a soundcard or onboard audio?

I'm pretty sure its onboard audio....

There's a blacklist feature ala PSU.

Have you tried using both speakers and headphones? I'm sure they work outside of the game but it doesn't hurt to exercise all possibilities.

I wish I could be of more help but my only guess is that you may need to update the drivers on it. How old is this computer?

I've tried with speakers and headphones, this laptop is 2 years old, and the weird part is my desktop is older and I can hear it fine. But I use my laptop 10x more, so...it's bugging me.

I'm getting the same thing. :S

Maybe its because the Jp language pack on windows isn't installed? I do notice a small
square next to the mixer now-next to "system sounds" that was not there before.
Also, my sub-woofer -faintly- detects the sound...but just barely on maxed volume.
Its hard choosing a character without knowing what his/her voice will be. xD
Other than that, I have the same condition. All my other games sound loud and clear.

If I find a fix, I will post it here.

Found it. My problem wasn't with X, but instead it was with the client. (Beginning menu)
On the settings: Somewhere on the tabs you will find BGM, SE, Voice, Cutscene volumes aligned vertically.
Just slide the bars all the way to the right and the game should adjust itself.
Also, they have to appear in a specific order, otherwise you can try re-installing.
