Pretty basic question, just want to see a basic proportion of what the english community has chosen as their 'main' class. Hunter, Ranger, or Force, and why?

Makin' lots of threads today.

I'm under the impression that it's going to be the same as the JP player poll: Big majority hunter, rangers and forces roughly the same.

Ranger!! I started playing hunter, about lvl 11 but then I decided to hold off until the ships were open for an alt to be hunter. I'm thankful that the ships are opening tonight because I'm starting to get pretty bored of Ranger lol

I love all three classes. And switching from one class to another is a really enjoyable change of pace. Even though you're doing the same thing, each class has different ways to deal with the same situation. Hunter is very dodge and counter oriented, ranger is aim oriented, and force is position oriented. Being good in one class doesn't mean you'll be good in another, though I feel in general being a hunter is a great way to get good with other classes due to the skill in dodging and reading enemies that you'll develop.

That being said, my main is hunter. Not because I enjoy it more, or because I think it looks neater. Hunter is simply my class. I study martial arts, I notice intricacies in weapons which allow them to do different things, and my whole combat focus is deflecting attacks and countering them. Having a blade in my character's hand is just natural for me.
Beyond that, it's a role play thing. Levia has always been a hunter, and a hunter she'll remain. Also, partisans are just awesome. Everything else is great too, but I've had a love for blades on a stick for a while.

Both Ranger and Hunter are my mains.

I use them equally, and they're always the same level.

RA. I've always enjoyed ranged DPS more than anything in any kind of game, RPG or not.

In PSO2 the assault rifles actually have a pretty cool and fairly authentic military feel and technique to them.

Like with the reload animation for example. Pulling off 3 successive and controlled critical bursts in a row and watching my character quickly and skillfully reload without a break or reprieve gives me one of those "kick ass" *I wear my sunglasses at night* sorta feelings lol.

Another example would be when I do a critical laying snipe to an enemies weak spot for upwards of a thousand damage. Or just using the shotgun PA to knock down half a dozen mobs I wrangled together.

Needless to say I'm rather happy with rifles in this game and RA in general (if you couldn't tell lol).

I'm currently a RA but I'm edging on re-rolling as a FO. I've been liking magic classes more and more recently.

Main: Gunblade Force. Thrillsplode, Gizonde, Resta. I don't need much else. Will go for a hybrid, if we get one, of hunter/force.

Alt: Ranger. Would go for a heavy weapons specialist if we get one (like Protranser).

Only one class can reach the heights(literally) in this game, which is part of the reason of why I main it. Hunter.

I'm going to go with pure melee and power so Hunter. Ramar will be my second choice.

I am always a magic user in any games they are included in. I will dabble in other fields and see what they have to offer but I feel most at home on magic users. So force all the way baby.

Force. I was hunter until seeing the 12 MPA parties with 10 hunters (@lv30 max) and 2 RAs didn't help anything. I swapped to maining force since then. Now things seem to be tipping into more FOs overall with mostly everyone at 40 now...

Yeah, right? This is quite an upset. This is very far from the CB and OB statistics...

But then again, internet poll, self-selecting respondents, etc. Take it with a spoonful of salt.

MasterSpark

Forces rule, we're currently ahead of hunters in the poll. :D

I've found myself on the opposite side of the fence on this point. I practice historical fencing with swords but, as passionate as I am about it, I rarely stick to sword-based characters in games. I mean, the feeling always falls short of the real thing. That's not to say that I hate or dislike how swords are handled in games, but they're not the natural go-to thing for me.

This isn't a fault of PSO2, though. No game has caught it right yet. For me, anyway. ^^

force cause its most fun imo. dodging is great + you get to use different attacks in different situations unlike ranger where u just spam 1 attack nonstop.

Nah, what I'm saying is that hunters have the highest vertical reach by very, very far(others basically only have the height of their jump afaik).Yup, that's a very personal reasonXD
Hunter clearly aren't the best right now:)
Probably the most fun though, so even without what I said earlier, hunter all the way.

Underrated as hell class.

Are they underrated?

They take some time to snowball but they dominate.

Anyone who plays one should be able to say that.

I tried out each class for a while and felt that Ranger was the least interesting (until I got Rodeo Drive), Hunter the least repetitive, and Force the most effective/useful (with the exception of Weak Bullets). I also really want to be able to heal and support others, so Force was the way to go. I'm levelling the other classes anyway, though.

I'd say Forces are less repetitive because they have a lot of spells, but I think most people (myself included) only really use RaFoie, GiZonde and GiGrants. Especially Gigrants.

Hunter for me!

I found them really fun to play as. Especially since I got Perfect Guard, which I abuse against Vol Dragon. <3

I do like playing Force too though. Talis is a very nice and fun weapon.

I once was a hardcore Hunter like you, then I took an arro*ahem* but now I'm seeing that force is SUPER HIGH DPS EZ MODE so I may main it, or just start keeping up on both classes.

Honestly, since when were forces this popular - and rangers this unpopular?

I mean, granted, rangers were also unpopular in PSU, but in PSO2 they get all these cool toys AND third-person shooter mode, I would have expected more...

JeyKama
Jul 24, 2012, 01:55 PM
I think it's mostly that there is no incentive to buff anyone but yourself, the heavyweight attacks have no travel time, and you don't have to worry about weapon elements at all. At least, that's how I felt levelling FO to 40.

Rangers were unpopular in PSU? :( I don't remember this... In this game though, RA feels like a gimmick class - either you build towards Weak Bullet (and resort to snipe spam) or you build towards traps or special effect bullets that have absurd skill point costs for their actual effect. Won't stop me from keeping the shooty class as a main, and everyone loves Weak Bullet. Hell, -I- love Weak Bullet.

A lot of people find them pretty boring. I was falling asleep when I played as one. Every situation is handled exactly the same way: Use a launcher from a distance. Enemy getting close? Back off.

If you want to be some kind of maverick and use the assault rifle (which I did when I was tinkering with ranger) then it's still not very engaging since all you do is just keep clicking the mouse. You don't really control enemy movements like hunter can, and you don't buff teammates or choose elements or cast from cards like forces do can. Both hunter and force have engaging, though-provoking mechanics. Ranger is pretty much s+m1 with s+m2 on cooldown.

I've played with good rangers, and ranger was my first class in PSO1, but now the ranger only really shines when there's a hunter in front to distract enemies and something to use weak bullet on, unfortunately. If you're good you don't need the hunter but it's still just m1 m1 m1 m1 (weak bullet) m2 m2 m2. Good for clearing something, but not good if you want to be active or have a long-term interest.

But, like I said, that's some people. There seems to be a good number of people here that find it plenty entertaining. I, unfortunately, do not. I wish I did, because ranger can really pack some heavy punches and having another class to play would be nice.

edit: This might all change up with the addition of mechguns though, which I eagerly await.

Jul 24, 2012, 02:05 PM
I'm playing RA because I have been a RAmarl since the day I started playing PSO. Right now, with only 2 weapons, they're not all that fun because you either distance with a launcher, or run circles around your enemies using the assault rifle. But, I think it'll get a lot more interesting when there are new weapons introduced (Mechguns especially, give me some gun fu). That...any maybe the Hybrid Classes will make it more fun too.
