Everytime I launch the launcher, it does something and then I get the message http://sadpanda.us/images/1087351-WA9K6XT.png and after that I can't launch pso2launcher.exe anymore, windows is saying that I don't have the rights to launch it or that the file does not exist. Try reverting the backup exes. I had a similar issue with a corrupted download that was applied anyway, and that fixed it for me.

In the SEGA dir in documents there was no .BAKs, and the only .BAKs that existed were the ones that I've used to restore the working working launcher, 3 for the files I've mentioned in my previous post (launcher, updater and download).

I'm on Windows XP (SP3) and as I've said in my previous post after running it on an account with ONLY user privileges it started to work again.

If it fails after you press start on the launcher means that pso2.exe is having problems. Try doing a file check to see if it any of the game files are damaged.

Well, the error message you showed the screenshot of translates to:
Failed to download the file.
Could not successfully update to the latest version.
Please confirm that it is not write-protected file.

So I don't really know what to suggest here considering the mixed results that people have had. At most I would suggest restarting the computer to rule out certain conditions and if it doesn't update then, reinstalling the game would probably be the best bet for you too.

Have you tried cleaning out (My) Documents\Sega\PhantasyStarOnline2\download ? This is where the updater downloads the temporary files to.
Oh and to ask, did you install from the official installer or from one of the alternate install packages? I installed and updated from the official installer.

Go to your PSO2 installation folder, then look up for files with a lock displayed on them (I don't have my own computer in front of me atm but I believe these files were pso2launcher.exe and such, like a total of 4 files).

Right click on the files, Properties, Security tab (I don't use an english version of Windows so names might differ) then if you do not see your windows username displayed under the "Names of groups and users" list, click on Modify, then Add, and write your username there. Tick all the boxes under the Allow column, then OK.
Rinse and repeat for the other locked files, then it should work fine again.

Well, there is no security tab on FAT32 because FAT32 doesn't support security. I would guess that in your case the problem isn't being caused by things going on in the PSO2 directory itself.

Now I am so fking upset guys!
It has patched normally but after the patch I couldn't start the game after severals times of trying I have realized that pso2.exe file is corrupted so I decied to ovewrite it with old file. Finally game has started I was able to choose a ship and after I typed my pass, error no.[640] occured... so what the fuck SEGA!? Before the patch everything was ok, damn.

To be honest, I am sure the problems is more to do with the patch server just being busy more than it being a permission problem. For a start, someone who had a FAT32 drive had the same problem.
Right now it is in the peak time for the Japanese to play this game, so after trying to help, and seeing where the problems are actually occuring now, I am sure it is more to do with demand on the server.

(Explorer runs as the limited version of your user account while the elevation that the game goes through means that it gets full administrative rights).
Try renaming (My) Documents\SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONLINE2 to something else. This should be where the user settings go, so if there is any potential for going wrong, it would be here.

What the hell did SEGA dop with this bull**** patch? I have a 32 Bit Win Vista system with NTSF harddrives. After like 10 seconds in the actual patching progress it stopped. Now I have a new pso2launcher.exe and pso2blablabla.exe and backups of them (blablalba.exe.bak). I can't f******* delete or change them. They are NOT locked!!!! This is driving me insane...

Guess i got lucky. Opened up launcher, automatically started patching. 10 min later Im playing.

after the update the file permissions on the launcher,updater,pso2.exe were all messed up, had to manualy add my user as a alowed user, in order to get it to work

You shouldn't bother doing that. If the updater messed up the permissions, the best thing to do is just set it back to using inheritable permissions. That is much easier and less problematic in the long run.
But when you say messed up, how do you mean? The default security for Windows only uses groups. The security has SYSTEM, Administrators and Users set up to give the Administrators group full control to everything and the Users group executable rights. So there is normally nothing there for your particular user account.

I'm having the same problem i had started the patching then an error showed up, i closed out of the application then clicked it again another dumb error comes up. Now the launcher doesn't want to work anymore because of that error.

How do i fix this? i read this whole post to see about resolving the problem and nothing seem to work. As for the inheritable permissions or whatever i don't know I've tried that numerous times perhaps i am doing something wrong. Please help!
