View Full Version : Does anyone listen to non-Soundtrack music while playing?

I can't find myself doing that, because for some reason the soundtrack in the areas I'm in reminds me so much of just general awesome.

For example, when it's raining in the Forest areas the soundtrack is so beautifully reminiscent of the ODST soundtrack by Martin O'Donnell that I just can't bring myself to turn off the BGM.

Point of the topic is, what do you listen to while playing PSO2? Reasons? Fun tiemz?

I personally want to listen to anime intros (Code Geass openers largely because that's been my big infatuation for the time being), but can't due to in-game soundtrack being so awesome so far.

Really depends on what I'm doing. If I'm playing normally with friends I tend to keep the game's soundtrack on. If I'm grinding out Client Orders or Matter Board nodes, I tend to turn the game's music off and put on something of my own to nix a bit of the tedium.

Recently, been listening to a lot of Mars Volta and Coheed and Cambria while doing my grinding. Just the mood I'm in.

I listen to my own music 90% of the time, mostly other game's music.

Mostly just pop music/remixes(from wherever). Have BGM muted because it's annoying in the lobby and I'm too lazy to switch it back and forth.

ODST

Well Arks are in a way ODSTs, we jump off the ship and land on the planet

Also nothing beats the quest clear music especially, very satisfying.

I have a mix of about 200 artists and a song or two or three from each of them that I like and I keep it on random. Sometimes there's piano solos, sometimes there's heavy metal, sometimes a little old school rap or blues, other times it's soundtrack music by Nobuo, Kanno, or Juno Reactor. I keep it eclectic! Haha.

The Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere OST goes amazingly well with this game. I've listened to that among other anime soundtracks.

I kinda mix it up. Occasionally turn the game music on since it's actually pretty damn good imoho, but most of the time I'm blasting away some random play list. Can be anything from some ambient stuff (a lot of Solar Fields lately), catchy game music (currently various remixes of the awesome one must fall soundtrack <3) to the most deliciously dark Norwegian black metal. :D

Depends on. Sometimes I m listing to the normal BGM, but when doing some runs I m switching to my own music library (Progressive House and D n B suits very well).

The area BGMs in PSO2 are nice, sadly, we rarely hear them because the music changes when enemies appear. Very bad idea, there.

I usually listen to something other than the game's soundtrack. What I listen to (usually) depends on which character I'm playing as.

Sometimes I just listen to the game's music. When I'm about to be running around in a free roam area for a while to hunt for rares or something though, I usually listen to other game osts, mainly from the King of Fighters game series.

I play my own music or go into a turntable.fm room. I also like to increase the pitch on my sound card so everything is a couple of notes higher. Its crazy how some things just sound better at higher pitches.

I will sometimes listen to Rob Zombie/"White Zombie" album "Astro Creep 2000" and an assortment of Rammstein songs when I play sometimes. Just like I did when I played the original PSO (vers 1 ~ Ep I & II)

The online Phantasy Star series are the only online games I don't listen to my own music with.

It would be a crime.

I usually just crank up Pandora with an artist I like and call it good. But if I really like the music for the area (Tundra) then I'll just listen to the OST ingame.

I second this. I made a "grinding" playlist and everything. Bayonetta music goes surprisingly well with lots of dashing and wired lances.

I've always muted every video game I play ever since I was a kid to listen to my own music. Thankfully I stopped doing that as much..

But I do usually mute PSO2 and bring up my own playlist to enjoy. Lately I've been enjoying Misfits and Tears for Fears, and some other bands.

It brings me great joy to hear that the PSO2 music is on par if not better then the Episode 1 and 2 music. EVen more that they brought back the dynamic music switch from Episode 1 and 2. I thought PSU's music was an insult to the great work they did on PSO Episode 1 2 3 and 4.

If you listen to your own music, I highly suggest keeping Sound Effects on, as you might miss the chime that a Rare Drop makes.

I almost always mute the games music (even though I think it is very good) to listen to my own. Usually touhou electro/rock

and yeah keep the sound effects on, I get blindsided so much when I cant hear things coming.

I see no reason to turn off the music in this game as of yet. The Mines theme is pretty boring, sure, but even then I don't really get sick of it. There are also some tracks I genuinely like hearing parts of.

Yea, the logic behind that is actually what makes me want to give the ODST soundtrack a go one of these days. Might do it for a run or two tonight, just to hear the Skyline track going during an Emergency Code: Attack/Protection/Duel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCVmzTGq4pA

Mind you that's just a part of the fantastic piece 'Skyline.' The part where you're on the rooftop with the crashed Pelican, fighting off squadrons of Banshees with just about everything the UNSC Armory has to offer. Shivers.

I listen to Youtube Poops in the background. My favorites are the ones involving Dr. Robotnik and/or CD-I Link/Zelda.

Also remixes of touhou songs since they absolutely blow the originals out of the water 9 times out of 10.

I only put on the game's music when I'm too lazy to put on my own.

The music of the game is kind of stale.

That is false.

Anyway, I usually have the game's own music playing, but sometimes I put on something more exciting if I'm grinding for exp or something. I haven't been doing that for some time now, though. Exp seems to be piling up fine on its own as soon as you reach level 30. ^^

The game's soundtrack is about on par with PSO2's imo, so I listened to the in-game music for the longest time.

Once I got bored of that though, I usually boot up Pandora in the background or have one of my Youtube playlists which can be REALLY random sometimes. I can go from videogame and anime OSTs to alt. rock, indie rock, dance, house, disco, j-pop, etc.

Some boss fights though I choose specific music because I feel it goes really well with the battle. Same goes for the city runs. Those are usually so hectic in the multi-party areas that I'll put on something that I feel goes with all the chaos and destruction.

Yeah sometimes. Though even when I'm not listening to something else I have the BGM off. I'm just too lazy to turn it on/off every time I want to listen to my own music. I don't mind just listening to the sound effects.

I listen to my music archive all day, no matter what I am doing. Programming, playing games, reading, eating, whatever. For new music I use a few stations. My favorite is elektrowave.org.

http://elektrowave.org/radio/

They play 24/7 underground house/nu-wave/eurotrash electroclash. No ads.

My 2nd favorite station is Rant radio.

http://www.rantmedia.ca/industrial/

They play darker music, Industrial, Synthpop, EBM. Also with no ads.

Most other stations I have found play ads, or play bad music. Not to say electrowave and rant don't play bad music, but they play it less often then most stations.
