The Adventures of NiGHTS and Fuji!, : FINAL FINALE!! : "Dre

It was a bright, sunny day and NiGHTS the FOmar was resting in the shade of a tree. A sudden growl alerted him. Looking around, he realized it was just his pet. He laid back down.
"Nothin to worry 'bout. He's probly just getting his vitamins, anyway..."

In a bush to his left, a small, blue chao was feasting on his recent kill: Rag Rappy.

You see, this duo was not the most ordinary on Ragol-in fact, they were probably the dumbest, most wacked up team on the planet; but hey, they didn't mind.

NiGHTS loved to sleep, and Fuji, the chao...well, Fuji, you see, loved to eat.

It didn't matter what it was; he ate it. Booma, rappy, nights hat, four sticks of dynamite, etc.

Needless to say Fuji experienced lots of sleepless nights upon which his stomach didnt agree with what he had eaten, but any sane person wouldn't have eaten it in the first place.

But you have to realize, Fuji wasn't a person; he was a chao.

When the team walked into battle, Fuji holding tightly to the stick upon which Nights held, a simple.
"Tear em up Fuji! Kill! Kill!", was enough to send the small chao on a frenzy.

Most would say a chao was incapable of eating anything five times it's size; but Fuji proved all of them wrong. He even ate the Sil dragon; but that comes later...

Whenever this lil' chao saw food, he would fly off the stick and attach himself to it; you might as well calm him a blue leech. And one thing also set him apart; he was NEVER FULL.

That lil' chao sure had some sharp teeth, though. NiGHTS got tons of enemy parts, I mean hey, the lil chao just sawed the Bringers' Right arm off, as he did with the C-sorcerer, the Gobooma's, etc.. Let me stress this again; the little guy was NEVER FULL.

It was in this way the duo lived for time on Ragol. Income was easy, they would just snatch everything they found and then sell it off.

But one day something odd happened.

Fuji, although he couldn't speak english, made hand motions to NiGHTS pointing at his belly, then smiled and went to sleep.

NiGHTS stood amazed. Was he trying to say...was he saying that....Oh my God!!!

_-Chapter 2-_

Shortly after the odd incident when Fuji was full, things went back to normal; including Fuji's appetite.

One day they were called from their small hut on ragol from a top-priority message.
It woke NiGHTS up, just in time to stop his chao from attacking the screen where the beeping was coming from. Sometimes NiGHTS could swear that chao was rabid.

He Yawned. "Let's see what they want...." He selected 'read', sat back and watched the video.

A large fat blob appeared on his screen.
Then the camera zoomed out, showing an oddly dressed, large, fat man with his back turned towards the screen.
"Oh my God! It's a sequel to the hunchback, fuji!"

Then the man turned around.

It was principal Tyrell.
"Doh...I really wanted to see Hunchb-" Tyrell's voice interuppted him.

"NiGHTS...and your..'Comrade'..Fuji. I have a mission for you."

Fuji did a little dance before extending his middle finger at tyrell's image.

"It seems that a rare type of monster has appeared on ragol. We believe this monster to have been infected with D-Type Cells. No one is brave enough to go out and look for it. This is why we called you two."

Now hang on a sec, let me tell you what Tyrell REALLY meant there. What he meant was, "No one else is dumb enough to take this quest, so we figured you idiots would be more than happy to." And he was right.

"We can offer you 1 Million Meseta in exchange for this creature; ALIVE."

Fuji's Jaw dropped and NiGHTS nearly fainted.
Fuji immediatly dressed up in a tux, and was running around in sunglasses with cash in his hands screaming something like "Chakachakachoo!"

Tyrell finished up his log.
"So again, thats..." NiGHTS and Fuji kind of zoned out on this part..

"...that's.. Blah blah blah blah blah Blah! Blah Blah blha? Blahblahblah! Blah Blah, 1 Million Meseta!"

Nights and Fuji heard only the last part of his message.

Now the two had a mission....
And nothing would stand in their way.

Just kidding, on the contrary, just about EVERYTHING would try and stop em, but hey, with Fuji along, whats the worst that could happen?

Oh....wait....

_-Chapter 3-_


NiGHTS and Fuji set out that day to find the prized beast that would make them rich beyond their wildest dreams.

During his travels NiGHTS kept a journal of their adventures, and much of this story is what he wrote in that journal. Not that any of it was good, but anyways...

"Day 1: We have started on our journey. Hiking through the forest was easy, yet difficult in some parts. We stopped for lunch at an area of waterfalls.
Fuji had the bright idea to jump off the overlook and down with the waterfall. I swear that damn chao will have himself killed if he keeps it up...
But I support him all the way! I mean hey, live life to its fullest, right?
We stopped for supper that night. I RAfoied' a rappy and we had Honey BBQ Rappy Wings for supper (Fuji's Favorite). I am just about to sleep as I write this... I have set up a portable tent and I... Hang on a second, there's something outside...

....Hmm, well umm...it was just fuji. The little guy decided to take a crap on my tent. He has quite an odd sense of humor. Screw him, I'm going to bed....



Day 2: I got up bright and early. Bright and early, around Noon, that is. Fuji was already up, and was cooking some lunch. I noticed he had caught a few boomas and rappies. He looked at me with those big, bubbly puppy eyes. I knew he wanted some Honey BBQ Rappy Wings. Damn, those eyes ALWAYS work on me...

So we had Honey BBQ Rappy Wings for lunch, too. We set out again and reached the heart of the forest.
Then the sun dissapeared and rain started falling.
Great. Just Great. First the chao takes a crap on my tent, then THIS. But I didn't worry too long, for Fuji spotted the central dome above the treeline (yes, he can fly) and set us in the right direction.

When we reached central dome, the door was fused shut, so we looked for another way in.
We couldn't find one, so we went back to the door.

I tried Foie, Zonde, Barta, even Megid. Fuji kept slamming himself up against the door. The Little guy nearly gave himself a concussion.

Then it hit me.

Fuji had jaws of steel.

The door! Fuji! Aha!!

I'm sure you know what happened next. Let's just say fuji would regret eating that later on down the road, but without doing what he did we wouldn't have moved on.

When we reached the central dome, a Giant dragon lay dormant, sleeping in the middle.

Fuji, being the smartass he is, decided to do something no normal person would ever do.

Running up to the dragon's tail, he climbed it, ran along the dragon's back, and ran up to his head, which is slanted slightly towards his mouth.

Bingo.

Fuji then took a crap on the dragon's head.
It slid down, got into his nostrils and mouth, and the dragon awoke with a roar.

Let me tell you, this guy was grumpy, REALLY grumpy.

But how would you like it if you woke up with chao poop in your nose and mouth?

Thought so.

Fuji jumped off with an evil grin and ran over to me. He then ran behind me and peeked out at the dragon.

Gotta love that guy. He's always there when you need him- he is always the one with the courage.

Well, the dragon took a few stomps at us, and then fell down. The shockwave sent me to the ground, but fuji, somehow, stood there laughing at me.

I am really starting to hate that chao.

Day 5:

"I awoke early this morning. There was a thick fog outside, and I stood up, streched, and rested my back on a tree. The thick fog limited my vision to a few meters. But, up ahead, I could see something quite clear.

It was fuji's signature again. I'm betting you can guess what it was.

"Great.." I thought. "He just had to leave it there for me, didn't he.."

Well, there was that steamer just lying there on the ground. It was at that moment a bit of genious hit me. I decided to get back at the little guy.

"If this doesn't teach him to clean up after himself, nothing will.."

I found him later and we continued on. We had reached the caves a day earlier. It sure was hot down here. How the fog appeared I don't know, what with all the lava and such. Who knows..

That night we ate Pal Shark Shciscabob. I had brough along some tomatoes and other veggies, and let me tell you--that was actually a very nice meal.

Fuji eyed his food suspiciously. He gave me that puzzled look, with one eye larger than the other.

O.o?

Yeah, that one.

"Just eat it, it tastes great.", I assured him.

Little did he know I had slipped some parts of his hardened dung into his food. They looked like burnt pieces of meat on the schiscabob.

He nibbled at first, then, realizing it was good, swallowed the entire thing whole. Stick and all.

I waited for the horrid look on his face when he tasted the special surpise I had give him...

And then I waited some more...

He just sat there and smiled at me.

"Damn!" I thought. "No effect!

Ah well, now when I think about it, it was probably better that he DIDNT find out, if he had he would have most likely killed me.

Then 'IT' Appeared. With blitscreek speed, Fuji flew after it. The two dissapeared into the next room, and I heard my chao yelling, and something else going
"Moooooo!" "

*Pause* Keep in mind that this is Ragol, and there are no Cows on ragol. At least if there are, no one knows about it, cows being an old memory now.
Yes, that's right, Mcdonalds has resorted to selling fries as their main food, and burger king is now selling veggie tacos. For all you carnivores out there, yes the world becomes a living hell for all of you. But hey, they still have pigs! Course' that screws all you jewish people over....nuts..

*Resume Story*

I ran into the room. Fuji was wrestling with a massive creature, it was black with white pokla-dots, that was all I could make out.

It was all I needed to recognize it as the creature we were supposed to bring back- ALIVE.

"Fuji!" I screamed. "No! No! Stop, Don't eat it! We have to bring that thing back ALIVE!!"

The two stopped wrestling, and fuji looked up at me.
We stared for a few seconds, and then in a flash they were at it again.

"Doh....Fuji, come on! This is one million meseta we're talkng about here!"

That sure did the trick. In seconds fuji had it tied up and gagged. I have no idea where he got the rope or the hankerchief. Oh well, none of that really matters I guess.

I stood there staring at this odd beast. It had six legs, two tails, was polka-dotted, and, oh yeah, it had two heads. In unison they would let out a "Mooo!" every so often.

I had no idea what this was, so I pulled out my trusty

'On the spot merriam-webster dictionary for dumbies'
and flashed a picture.

"No matches found."
A bead of sweat ran down my head-anime stlye.

I tried searching for close matches, and got one result.

"Cow. This creature is generally dumb and stupid. Just like you, NiGHTS."

Oh, did I forget to mention that these new 'for dummies' programs come built in with a personality?

"That's great. Now tell me more before I turn you into an ice-cream maker."

"bleep. Cow. Generally Stupid. These have four legs, one tail and only ONE head. You didn't find a Cow, NiGHTS."

Wow! This computer could state the obvious! No Way!!

Then Fuji noticed something.

Something would tell us just what this creature was.

Note: What you are about to read is real. The names in this chapter have been changed to protect the innocent.


Fuji ran under the creature and located four things drooping from the animals crotch area.

"I was VERY relieved to find that the four 'things' were not what I thought they were. Luckily, they were 'udders', and not di-err....

Anyways, we started our journey back. It had taken us five days to reach the animal, but now suddenly the road was all uphill.

It wasn't like that getting there, but on the way back I started getting the feeling that we were being followed.

I hate it when I'm right.

That night in the caves, we set up camp and I built a small fire. Huddled around the fire, shadows seemed to grow on the walls of the cave.

The only sounds were that of us, and the echoing 'pitter patter' of water eventually seemed natural.

We were just about to sleep (The cow-thing was still standing with it's eyes closed) when fuji spran up. He tensed, evidently on high alert.

"Whats wrong, Fuji?"

He looked into the darkness.

"Sure would be a lot easier if he could talk back.." I thought.

Then, a gust of wind blew through the room and extuinguished our fire.

There was darkness. Following the silence, I heard fuji yell and then something else which sounded like fuji-but I could tell it wasn't him.

I illuminated the room with some gifoie. It caught a piece of the old firewood on fire, showing me exactly what was happening.

Fuji did a couple backflips and landed on my shoulder, still in defensive stance. I peeked through the dim light.

And there they were.

A small FOnewearl, and her chao.

"You followed us." I said.

"Wellll....maybe!" She replied, with a quick smile and a wink.

Woah. She was pretty.

Her chao got off her shoulder and walked over to me.

I bent down. He reached behind him and pulled out a small card. He handed it to me (this is the japanese custom, business cards are exchanged at first meetings). He then bowed and walked back to the Force.

Needless to say I nearly fainted.

----Chapter 6-----

"So, your name is..?" The FOnewearl asked me.

"My name is..." I thought for a moment. What if she was some kind of psuedo-military stalker with the intent of finding me, taking me hostage, handing me over to torture specialists who would then proceed to suck every living fact I knew out of my head?!

On the other hand, she could just be some pretty girl who just wanted to know my name.

I pondered these two for a long time. I was leaning towards the first when I decided. I picked the latter.

"My...uh...I'm...NiGHTS."

"NiGHTS huh? That's a different name! My name is Yuri!"

Yuri. Oh....she was an angel....

"Yuri...such a nice name..." I mumbled, unfortunatelly audible to the rest of the things in the room.

Then I remembered fuji.

I remembered him partly because the thought popped into my mind from nowhere.

I also partly remembered him because a sharp pain was issuing from my leg, where he had latched on.

"And this beast on my leg here is Fuji."

Fuji dislodged his teeth from my now bleeding flesh and smiled, blood dripping down his face.

Nice way to make a first impression.

She smiled. "My Chao's name is Henry! Henry, go say 'hi' to Fuji!"

"Not a smart idea.." I warned here.

Well, too late. The other little chao was already nearly to fuji.

"Don't say I didn't warn you.."

Henry extended fuji a business card.

To my amazement, fuij took it and bowed.
I figured he would have eaten in already.

Then, just like I figured, he popped it in his mouth and swallowed.

Quite an insult to Henry, I guess, for the next thing I knew the two were battling it out on the ground.

In the middle of this, Yuri walked over to me.

"You see, my chao has manners. He's a proper chao."

Suddenly I didn't find her pretty any more. For a second there I thought about using the word 'bitch', but decided I had better not.

"You...You...rude person!" I exclamed. I really should have used bitch. Rude person just made me sound stupid--I'm not denything that fact, though.

"What? Am I rude just because my chao is better than yours? Just cause my chao has more manners than yours, and is more athletic than yours, and is smarter, and--"

She stopped there, lying unconscious on the ground.

Fuji had won the fight. And he didn't like being called dumb and stupid. Now he fully accepted the part about not having any manners, but he still didn't like being called dumb. And thus after taking out henry he moved to henry's owner.

"I warned her..."


The next morning I was up early. The Light reflected from small holes in the roof, brightening the room.

I got up and stretched.

Yuri and Henry were lying close together on the floor, sleeping.

It looked like there was something on Yui's face.

I walked over to them, bent down and looked.

Yuri had two circles drawn around her eyes in brown.
A small mustache and three dots on her forehead were also in brown.

On Henry's head was written in brown 'Fuji rules'.

"Oh god, Fuji. I just hope that was mud."

Much to my dismay, when I sniffed, I realized it wasn't.

"Goddamit Fuji!!!"

"Let me just say that the morning upon which I found Yuri and Henry's faces drawn upon with fuji du ng, a lot happened.

Yuri woke up and nudged her henry, who was up instantly. For a little bit, the two walked around as normal; before finally waking up enough to smell the distinct smell of...yeah...

Yuri ran over to a puddle of water and looked at her wavy reflection.

I could tell Fuji was gonna regret this one.

Then henry came over. She noticed the 'Fuji Rocks' on his forhead, and then her anger burst forth in a stream of hot air that would have sent the devil himself running to his little cave in mortal terror.

Whew, that was a long sentence.

"I'M GOING TO KILL THAT CHAO!!"

I walked over.

"Uhh, hey now, I mean, heh, cmon' the little guy was...just....uh....'expressing himself..'

God that sounded dumb too. I really should use the word 'bitch' a lot more.

"EXPRESSING HIMSELF?! HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU KNOW THAT EXPRESS THEMSELF WITH THEIR OWN CRAP?!"

"Hey now! Didn't you read the first chapter, BITCH?! Fuji isn't a human; hes a chao!"

HAHA! I used it! And look at that! I could have been the terminator when I said that line. I'm going to use that more often now!

"WHAT WAS THAT?!"

*Smack*!

Owww!!! My cheek a bright red with a hand imprint in it, I pondered roasting her now or waiting till we got back to civilization and then roasting her in public.

I picked neither. Probably a smart choice, considering the predicament in which I find myself now; but you won't need to worry about that just yet..

Well Yuri and Henry went off to wash up and get that nasty poo of their faces. Fuji was still nowhere in sight. Can't blame him, I'd hide too if I smeared poo on a girl's face.

.....

You know..when I think about it, I can't really say what bonded fuji and myself.

Perhaps it was the fact that we were both short.
Sigh...yeah...I admit it...I'm a little guy...

I purposely didn't tell you that in any of the other chapters so that (hopefully) you would imagine me as a tall, buff, FOmar that spoke with a deep voice (ex: I'll be back.") and that with a mere stare could send the rappys runnin'.

Not so...

Alright, fine, I admit it, I'm short, I have a pointed hat, and I'm kinda dumb. My wierd eyes give you a hint to my homeland; but any smart person would know just by reading my name.

Well when I first met fuji, the two of us hadn't been to ragol yet.

I was on pioneer 2, waiting for us to arrive at ragol....

hah! Had you fooled, didn't I? Any smart person knows I was NEVER on pioneer 2, screw that big ship and waiting seven f***in years just to arrive on ragol, I spent my time at Nightopia, a land of dreams.

I mostly spent my time with elliot and Claris, (who are now boyfriend and girlfriend, you know). I bet a lot of you are saying, "Who the hell are elliot and claris?"

Hah! If you don't know I don't intend to tell you, thus making you go insane while wondering who they are! As it nibbles at the very corners of your mind, making you anxious to find out, turning this question into a BURNING RAGE IN WHICH YOU CANNOT HELP BUT SCREAM AT THE FACT THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL IM TALKING ABOUT!

*whew...let me calm down for a sec..*

As you can see, Nightopia was much more fun than ragol. I can't fly, I can't loop-de-loop, catch ideya, I can't do jack!!

Which is why I set up that special event quest.

Yeah, you can thank me for it, It was ALL my idea.

Sonic Team had no plans for any type of holiday quest 'till I came into their offices, red gem on my chest and all.

"Yuji," I said, "You need to make a holiday Quest. All of your PSO fans want one!"

"Screw you!" he said. "I'm working on a double save which will send all of them into an uproar, turn many against me, and corrupt them on a daily basis! Hah! Stick that up your pipe and smoke it!"

Woah. Yuji was being a jerk. This was unlike him.

However through a simple torture (haha, I knew he couldn't stand listening to disk 6 OVER AND OVER)
Yuji finally gave in and he agreed to work with me on a special quest.

And such is how the quest happened.

Oh yeah, if you couldn't tell, the American person who translated the quest was pervert.

The original Japanese text in the beginning from the boy says: "I was playing with a flying man with a red gem on his chest!"

Changed to: "I was playing with a purple man!"

Purple.

Also notice the boy changes it from "We played on ragol" to, "We palyed at the beach! It was so fun! We played tag, and Hide-and seek-,"etc..

In reality the kid and I played a drinking game.

I won, naturally. The kid passed out and fell into the water, was snatched up by a whale and then a holy voice from above boomed :

"Thou shalt not play drinking games with a purple FOmar with a hat named NiGHTS. This is thy 11th Commandment!"

Dammit! Now god was against me too! Shoot...what do you do when a holy deity is against you?!


Anyways, back to the pervert part. I swear that the man that translated it was gay. Seriously.

He had this odd, high pitched voice, and could constantly be heard saying "Oh, jesus Chriiist!"

And then there was the odd ocurrence at the office.
I'm telling you, this wierd kind of chant kept going through the building, something like..

"Lemmmewinks, you must get to the sparrow prince!"

I have no idea who or what lemmewinks is, but I have an idea. God no...please, don't tell me that....oh...
I'm going to lose my lunch.


And anyways, you can take the entire intro to that quest ENTIRELY WRONG if you think about it.

"I was playing with a purple man. We played tag and hide-and-seek! It was so fun! And when we were done, he promised me he would give me a 'special surprise'!

But my mom won't let me go down to ragol!"

Doesn't surprise me kid, she doesn't want some man raping you at the seaside. If I was your dad and you told me that story, and wanted to GO BACK, I would shoot myself.

Well, I suppose thats enough for now, my fingers are falling off as we speak from too much typing...and my brain hurts.

Ok, not really, I was lying... my brain doesn't hurt, and my fingers aren't really--

*sudden thud*

"OH MY GOD!! MY PINKY!!!"

When Yuri and Henry returned, they found NiGHTS and Fuji waiting for them at the mouth of the cave.

A bright light radiated from oustide, and it was finally time to go back into civilization. Something like civilization, I guess...

"We emerged into the forest again, and found, much to our surprise, a large group of people with party hats on dancing around and singing the 'Samba De Amigo' Song.

Amidst them were rappies of all sizes, Hunters dancing and chatting, and most noticable of all--Red Ring Rico and Flowen were there!

We split up, me and fuji and Yuri and Henry. We promised to meet back later.

Yeah Right, screw those two, I'm not waiting for them.

I ran up to Red Ring Rico.

"Are...you.."

"Yeah! I'm Red Ring Rico!"

I looked at flowen.

"And..you...are.."

"Heathcliff Flowen. I take it you've heard of me?"

"YES! You're only the two most popular people on all of Pioneer 2! You're only the two names that pop up in EVERY conversation!"

The two looked at each other, and then started laughing.

Then, to my surprise, I turned around and saw a rappy smoking a cigarrette.

"What the f***?!"

Then suddenly the rappy had sunglasses on.

And then everything in the room turned blue, and there smurfs and mushrooms everywhere!

Everything began chanting "NiGHTS! NiGHTS! NigGHTS? NiGHTS?! NiGHTS!!"

The voices kept screaming it at me.

"AAAAAAAAH!!!"

My vision blurred and things once set in concrete became watery lines.

Then I woke up.

.........

I saw Yuri's face, inches away from mine.

"NiGHTS?! Are you gonna get up or not?!"

"Oh...ugh...I..er..just a bad dream..."

"If you think your dream was bad, wait till you see what I've got in store for you, mister!"

Oh man...what did Fuji do now?

I got up and streched, just like I always do.

*SNAP*!!

"AAH!! MY BACK!!"

I collapsed, twitching, onto the ground.

.......

When I awoke I found myself in the forest.

I got up and stretched.

"*yawn..* mm...Where am I?"

Looking around, I found it was sunset in the forest. The red and yellow glow seemed to give it a whole new feeling.

It seemed so...desolate.

"Hello?..Is anyone here?"

Then, in an explosion of color, the wavy lines appeared again, turned into smurfs, and then turned concrete.

I was back at the party again. Rico was to my left and flowen was to my right.

That song started up, the only part in english that I could make out was 'cha cha cha!'

Rico looked at me.

"NiGHTS. Follow me, I'll show you the truth of the evil on Ragol."

Flowen then replied, "NiGHTS. Come with me, instead. I will take you Dr. Osto and his researchers, where you can find out just what the true intent of the Pioneer Plan really was.

I was pondering this when Rico started to move.

"I followed Red Ring Rico. Flowen just gave me this mean look and flipped the birdie at me.

No wonder the ultimate evil picked him as a host.

Walking closely behind Rico, she started talking to me.

"NiGHTS, the ultimate evil known as 'Dark Falz' is a conciousness. The entity has no body."

"I know, I read your little messages."

"Oh."

"erm, anyways, there is only one way to defeat this evil."

"And that is....?"

"With the four keys."

I made a puzzled look.

"eh? Four keys? Cmon' rico I don't even have that many keys on my keychain! I mean, I don't even HAVE a keychain!"

"Not that kind of keys."

What other kinds were there?!

"What kind then?"

"Four keys, all close yet far from each other, are what it takes to break the seal that keeps it living for an eternity and let it be destroyed."

"Hang on now, we want to BREAK the seal?! If we break it, that just lets falz fly right on out and destroy ragol, doesn't it?!"

"Well, kind of. Shoot. Hadn't thought of that. Oh well, the readers voted for me, so hah! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif You'll just have to come up with some mysterious meaning as to why we would want to open it, then."

Then she turned around, and...Oh God!!!

The body was that of Red Ring Rico--but the head...the head was that of.....

"Yuri?! What the hell?!"

Then it all went white.

I awoke to find Yuri leaning over me. She had two fiery horns portruding from her head, and a devil's tail on her backside.

"What the...where am I?"

"You know where you are, NiGHTS.", she said in a monotone.

"Oh god, no!! Noooo!! I'm in Hell!!
Dammit! I knew I shouldn't have eaten those mushrooms I found in the cave, but I just couldn't resist!"

Mushrooms. Smurfs. Starting to make sence now, isn't it?

I got up and looked around. There were millions of pink flying hippoppatamuses flying around every where.

Now it's time for a flashback.

*Flash!!!*

When I was a wee little Sonic Team character, living in Nightopia, I was playing around in a girl's dream.

She was dreaming about pink flying hippos, and there will many of them, just flying around everywhere.

I was enjoying it, but then something went horribly wrong. The Hippos' teeth suddenly became fangs, and they grew horns and their angelic wings turned into black bat wings!

"goo goo ga ga!" (Translation: "Oh my good god!")

(See, I told you I was pretty young back then)

The hippos started chasing me, and I flew, as hard as I could away from them.

The faster I flew, the faster they flew, and then I heard the song.....oh...that horrid song of satan...

"Hippo! Hippo! Whaddayano? Hippo! Hippo! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Hippo! Hippo! We love you! Hippo! Hippo! Yes we do!

Hippo! Hippo! Fly! Fly! Fly! Hippo! Hippo! MAKE NIGHTS DIE!"

Eh?! That last part didn't seem to fit, but I flew as fast as I could. Right before a hippo bit my head off, it was destroyed by a frikkin' shark with a frikkin' laser beam on its head.

Ok, not really, the girl just woke up, thus ending the dream. Still, it scarred me for life. But now back to hell!

*Flash!*

Yuri gave me an evil grin. "You see NiGHTS, 'hell' is different for all of us. Your 'hell' is this!" She spread her arms at the sea of flying pink hippos.

"No. No way."

Then they started singing the song.

"Hippo! Hippo! Whaddayano? Hippo! Hippo! Ho! Ho! Ho!"

"OH GOD NOO!" I covered my ears with my hands and huddled into a ball on the ground.

Suddenly it all dissapeared.

I was falling...falling through a sea of nothingness..falling through a sea of black. Then I saw her.

In front of me, whichever direction it was, appeared a somewhat tall HUnewearl. She had red hair and a red top and Shorts. She had ocean-blue eyes, and wow, she was pretty. Much Prettier than Yuri.

Just don't tell Yuri that, cause right now she's fishing for Olga flow with De Rol Le as bait, (you know the worm), and she'd kill me if she found that out.

A voice boomed from above.

"Remember this person."

"Why?"

"Because."

"Because...?"

"BECAUSE YOU'LL NEED TO REMEMBER THIS PERSON LATER ON!"

"Oh. Ok.

Why, again?"

"YOU IDIOT! CAN'T YOU TELL IM TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING HERE?!"

"Who are you? Are you god? No wait, If I'm in hell, that makes you the--"

"NO! I AM NOT GOD NOR THE DEVIL! I AM...."

"Well, cmon. Spit it out already."

"..my name is of no importance. Now just remember this darn person so that I can...er..."

"So you can what?"

"I'm not telling."

"Awwww cmon! Tell me!"

"NO!"

"Then I'm not gonna remember who that is!"

"You should, if you want to find the first..."

"..the first what?" I smiled. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif I was tricking a holy voice from above. Not bad, I guess.

"Damn you! You really ARE an idiot! Can I make it any more clear?!"

Suddenly the blackness began to get darker, and I heard a voice saying,
"NiGHTS?! NiGHTS?!"

The last thing I saw was of no importance.

Ok, maybe it was...

As the vision blurred out, I saw, floating above the red Hunewearl, a bright neon sign flashing:
"FIRST KEY!"

I opened my eyes to see the sky of ragol, blue, with peaceful clouds floating in it. I heard some footsteps.

"Uh oh. It might be the tax collectors. Better play dead."

I closed my eyes quickly.

I heard Yuri's Voice.

"NiGHTS?! NiGHTS?! Are you ok?! Oh my Gosh! NiGHTS!"

Something bent down near me, and I felt a hand touch my knee.

"He has no pulse! Oh my God!" There was a gasp and then something stood up.

"Dang, I'm pretty good at this playing dead stuff. I can even make my pulse stop!", I thought.


Then there was the crying. Something leaned over me and I felt a teardrop on my cheek.

"Oh, NiGHTS, don't leave me here! NiGHTS! After all we've been through!"

The voice was feminine, probably Yuri's. But we hadn't been through much at all, it would have made much more sence if it was Fuji talking. But it wasn't.

"NiGHTs...I...*sob* I....I..."

Then I felt another mouth touch mine.

"WOAH! I'm sure glad I'm not really dead!"

Then she hugged me, and I continued playing dead. I wondered how far she would go with a dead body.

She kissed me again, tears still falling on my face.

"I know!", I thought to myself. "I'll pull a 'sleeping beauty stunt on her!"

As she raised her head from that one, I slowly opened my eyes.

"Y...Yu..Yuri..?" I pretended to mumble out. I could have won an oscar for that performance.

"N-n-n-n-n-NiGHTS?!"

"Yuri...where am I...and...why are you crying?..AND WHO THE HELL PUT LIPSTICK ON ME?!"

Hah! I had her now! She was forced into a situation where she would have to express her feelings for me.

"Uh..I...I don't know! But you're alive! NiGHTS, I'm so happy! You're Alive!"

I got up and we hugged, me smiling the whole time.

Then, while we hugged, I saw something move in the brush behind yuri.

Still hugging, the bush moved again and a flying ball of brown sped through the air.

"Duck!" I shoved yuri down on the ground and did the same.

The ball flew directly over our heads and hit a tree.

I got up and walked over to it.

It had the color, the texture, and the smell...it was...

"FUUUUUJIII!!!!"

A little chao jumped out of the bush, with indian war paint on his cheeks, a bow and arrow in his hands, and a headress of faithers going down to his feet.

He chanted and ran off.

I helped Yui up to her feet.

"What's with fuji?"

"Oh..." I was at a loss for words.

"Well...you see.. I kind of let him try some of those mushrooms we found in the caves."

"YOU WHAT?!"

"Yeah...I had some too..."

"NiGHTS?!" She took a step away from me.

"How could you eat those?! You know those are highly poisonous!"

"But they were great while it lasted!"

"ARGH!I DONT CARE! I'm leaving! Yuri stormed off into the bushes.

As she walked away, I wondered to myself.

"Will I ever get a girlfriend?"

NOTE: This chapter was twice as long, but while trying to save it my computer crashed and I lost it all. I have rewritten it as best I could, so expect the second part of chapter ten coming fairly soon..

---Chapter 10 (part 1)---

I mingled around the forest, my head drooped, waiting for a sign that the day would get better. Then I tripped over the root of a large tree and fell face down into a mud puddle.

Boy was I wrong.

I was starting to walk back when I was hit by an arrow, smack dab in the right side of my head.

Luckily the head of the arrow had been replaced with the suction-cup part of a plunger, thus making it stick to my head.

I knew who did it, but didn't feel in the mood right now...

"Fuji...I'll play with you later..."

I walked on for a few minutes, arrow still in my head.

Then fuji emerged from the bushes and ran up, tugging at my cloak.

"Not now, fuji." I looked down at him. BIG mistake.

He had those little bubbly eyes, the ones that I just can't resist...ARGH!

"Aww...I'm sorry fuji, c'mere, I'll give you a hug.."

I bent down. Much to my dismay, fuji quickly changed his bubbly face to one with an evil grin, before stabbing a rubber tamahawk with glue on the end into my leg.

"OW! Fuji!!"

He ran off, snickering in that way that little chao do.

I was depressed. What more did I have to live for...

Then it hit me. Oh yeah, that 1 million meseta! That sure sounded good enough for me!

But wait!-Where was the cow thing?

Oh no. I left it back on the first page somewhere!

Speeding as fast as I could, I ran through millions of letters in HTML coding, message board posts, and finally found the cow-thing, fightened, alone, and drinking chocolate milk.

Finding a collar floating through the old post, (lord knows how it got there) I put it on the cow-thing. It was made of black leather, with sharp metal spikes sticking out, and had engraved on it 'butch'. Oh well, It worked.

Tying some rope to the collar, I made myself a nice little leash and ran back through the vast void that is the internet to this current chapter.

Out of ....out ..of...bre..breath *gasps* I...took..the cow-thing..back to the others.

Yuri, who had previously not known why in god's name I was taking this creature with me, asked.

"Err..well, you see it's uh...a present. For my Dear Aunt Sally. And she needs to be excused if you will, so please..."

Hah. High school arithmetic had just saved me.

I led the cow over to a tree and tied it up. I couldn't let Yuri know that with this I would become a very, very rich person. I was worried about what she would think; but more importantly, was afraid she would try and kill me to get the money for herself. ..Now, I realize she would never have done such a thing...my dear Yuri...

"Well!" she said.

"You certainly picked a nice time to come back! It's sunset already! If you want to get back to civilization, we had better start now! You know I don't like to travel when its dark!"

"What? Why not? You arent...AFRAID now are you?"

"Of course not! It's just that...well..."

Thinking back to previous conversations, I decided I would let this one rest here.

"Well, never mind. Let's get going, then!

Ladies first.."

I gestured both my hands towards the path that led back to the forest. We were technically in 'a forest', but not one that had any warps back to Pioneer 2.

"Hmph! Let's go Henry!". Her little chao flew onto her shoulder and the two started walking down the path. The red glow from the sunset gave the evening a magical feeling.

"Let's go, fuji!"

He flew onto my shoulder and, taking the cow-thingy with us by leash, we started off into the forest.


*Thud! "WOAH!" *Sploosh!*

Two mud puddles in one day. Boy was I lucky.

To my shock, Yuri stopped walking, came over and helped me up.

"Wha-why did you do that?"

"Do what?" She smiled.

"You know. It's just that...you arent..usually this....nice."

"WHAT?! ARE YOU SAYING I'M MEAN?!"

Yikes! I sure stepped into that one.

"Uhh no no! I mean you're uh, always nice! Heh,...its just that today you've been....nice than normal!"

"Oh. Ok!" She smiled, winked at me, and ran off back to henry who was waiting impatiently for her.

"Woah." I thought. "She just winked at me!"

We followed the path until nightfall.

I set up a fire using a 30x30 meter tree that fuji cut down with his teeth. I let Yuri and Henry sleep in my tent, while Fuji and myself slept outside.

Unfortunately, the area had many rocks, most of which I felt the hard way.

"Ow." I rolled over.

"Ow." I rolled over again.

"OW!" I got up.

Taking a seat near the fire, I noticed fuji was still awake. The crackling of the fire mixed with the crickets chirping in the forest was amazing..

"Hey. Fuji. What you doin'?"

Fuji just looked at me, tilted his head, and then that little question mark appeared over his head. In case you didn't know, chao have this little ball thing above their heads that will tell you how they are feeling. A question mark represents confusion, an exclamation mark can represent a whole damn lotta things, trust me, and a swirl represents that they are angry or frustrated.

"Oh. Never mind..Hey, fuji, want some s'mores?"

I pulled out three bags of marshmallows, four boxes of graham crackers and two pound of ragolian chocolate. This was a tradition, you see.

I used two crackers and one marshamllow, and a 4x4 square of the chocolate. Then I handed the rest to fuji. He took all the marshamllows, ripped them out of the bag, clumped them up into a marhsmallow the size of a bowling ball, and smiled.

"You're gonna need a mighty big stick for that, buddy."

Getting an idea, he flew off into the forest to find one.

I looked around and picked up a three foot long stick lying close to me. This sure was a nice, little cheery bonfire that we had built.

Bzzzzzzzzz!!!

"What the-"

Fuji returned, holding a twelve foot long tree in his hands triumphantly.

"Uh..buddy..that might be a bit TOO Big."

He smiled and shook his head from side to side.

"well, alright, but if you catch the forest on fire don't blame me, buddy."

We both put our marshamllows in the fire, fuji's tree exploding in flames, burning all of his marshmallows. Just the way he liked 'em.

We took them back from the fire, I put mine on the rest of my crackers and chocolate, and fuji emptied all the remaining food into his lap. Using glue to stick about 50 graham crackers together, he then put massive 1.9 pound block of choclate left on top of it. Then came his crispy black marshmallows.

He extinguished his fiery tree, by means of which I am sure you can imagine, and threw it back a good 50 meters into the brush.

Now was the tradition which fuji always won at; Who could eat their s'more the fastest.

"Ready?"

He nodded.

"One....."

"Two...."

CHOMP!

"Hey, you little cheater, you can't eat that yet! I have to get to three!"

He spit it back out and stuck it back onto his s'more.

"That's better, ready?"

"THREE!"

We both stuffed the S'mores into our mouths, and fuji won again-by a good five seconds.

"Burp!. Well, fuji, I'm going to bed. I'll see you in the morning.

Little did I know that I wouldn't see fuji in the morning, in fact, I wouldn't see him for a long, long time...

--Chapter Ten: Part Two: The Beginning of The Awakening--

I was awakened by a tugging at my hair.

"Fuji...what's wrong?"

I got up and looked around.

I had to close my eyes.

"Oh my god."

All around me the forest was ablaze in flames. It cast a red glow all throughout the forest, and the intense heat from the fire, now still a good 50 meters off, could be felt by myself and fuji.

"Shit! Fuji, get Yuri and Henry awake! Now!"

Fuji flew off towards the tent.

I cast barta at the oncoming flames, now on all sides. The fire withdrew for a second, then came back doubly as strong.

I looked back and saw Yuri getting out of the tent.

"No good! We've gotta get out of here, and fa--"

A crashing tree stopped me in midsentence.

As the burning tree, easily 50 feet tall, crashed to the ground, it blocked myself from the tent, where Yuri and the others were.

"Yuri!"

Then a bright light flashed down upon my face.

"What the hell?!" I sheilded my eyes with my arms, hoping the light would go away.

A loud voice rang through the air.

"ARE YOU NIGHTS, THE FOMAR?"

"Yeah! I'm so glad you guys came to help, hurry, the flames are getting close!"

The embers whisped themselves through the air, millions of them, floating up on the constant wind blowing.

The light shut off, and I saw three RAcasts jump out of a small ship which had landed onto the ground. They ran at me.

"Wait! Save the others first! They're over behind that tree!"

"We are only interested in you."

"Huh?"

One grabbed my right arm, the other my left, and the last grabbed both my feet.

"What the F***?! Are you guys crazy?!"

They titled me horizontally, and ran towards the ship. Looking into the flames, I heard a scream. It was Yuri.

I could barely make out yuri and the others, backed up against a rock, watching as the flame drew near.

"Yuri!!"

She heard my yell and looked at me.

"NiGHTS! Help! Help!!"

My right hand cracked as the androids shoved me into the ship.

The glass lid closed, and we began taking off.

I looked through the window, pressed my hands against it and looked at Yuri and the others. The two chao were both clinging tightly to her feet, shaking as the flame approached them.

"No!!! Yuri!!"

A guard hit me on the back of my head.

"Quiet, FOmar, or I'll turn you into a headless FOmar."

A sudden rage inside me, I used my left hand to cast gibarta level 30 at his head.

*CRACKLE*

It shoved him backwards, breaking the glass. I watched him plummet into the fires below. The entire forest was on fire, as far as I could see. Even the horizon line had a faint glow.

Another scream directed my attention towards Yuri Again.

"Yuri!!"

She was huddled, on her knees now, with her head dropped...crying...

The two chao sat there clinging tightly.

She looked up, tears glistening on her cheeks, as the tree crashed down.

The Burning piece of foliage crashed into the rock, hitting Yuri, Fuji, and Henry.
Crackling flames rose up, a dimented torture to me.

"YUURI!! YUUUUURI!" Tears rolled down my face as I screamed, then I was hit hard from behind. I was knocked unconscious."

Chapter 11----

"Day: ????

I awoke on a cold, hard, concrete floor. The lights were dim, and it smelled horrible.

I got up and looked around.

Bars. Long, Photon, bars.

Then I realized where I was.

"Prison?! What the?!"

In with me, sitting on a bed, was a HUmar, his head drooped low. He had aqua-colored hair, and in his hands he held a small piece of a green stone.

He looked up at me.

"I take it you're in here because of...that fire.."

"That's why? No way..I didn't start that fire, and neither did Fuji..."

"Fuji, being your chao, I presume.

"Uhh....yeah..how'd you know that?"

"I have some....heh...psychic powers...I can read people's minds. But your mind was a bit harder than most. I think you've got something troubling you."

"Woah now, buddy. Don't pull a mrs.cleo on me now."

"Heh, my readings really are free, haha!"

"So your name is...?"

"I'm Jade. Nice to meet you, NiGHTS."

"How'd you know my--oh, wait..."

"It just takes some getting used to...shh! Quiet, here comes the watch, get in your bed fast!"

I jumped into it and pulled the covers waaaaaaay over my head. One advantage to being short.

Footsteps echoed on the concrete, then got softer, and softer. Finally, when I hoped the coast was clear, I whispered

"hey...jade..."

"hm?"

"what are you in here for?"

"I didn't want to be part of their plans. but because I already knew what they were going to do, they put me in here. That way I couldn't affect the operation."

"operation?"

"The pioneer plan."

"but wasn't that the voyage to ragol?"

"Not exactly. that was the cover up to the true intent."

"and that intent was...?"

"I'll tell you in the morning. Get some rest."

I rolled over. I couldn't tell whether it was night or morning in this dank, dark, and cold place. Prison was really a lot worse than I had thought it was.

----

I awoke the next morning by the voice of some kind of drill sargent.

"GET UP YOU SCUMBAGS! I WANT YOUR SORRY ASSES UP AND DRESSED IN 3 MINUTES! DO YOU HEAR ME?!"

I, being on the top bunk, rolled a little bit to my left. A bit to far, unfortunately, and I fell a few feet to the floor.

"ow."

Jade was already up, and I got into a new robe that they had, with black and white stripes, and looked at myself in the small mirror we had in the room.

it read "Convict. WORKS Special Prison 0002.0"

"Well, how nice of them to put the word 'convict' on it", I thought.


Suddenly the photon bars dissapeared, and Jade and I stepped out into the hallway.

"Just look out for Angelfire."

"Angelfire? Who's that?"

"The meanest bitch you'll ever see.."

While attempting to picture this in my mind, I came up with some very odd images. Finally, I gave up and followed Jade. Other inmates were stepping out of their cells and walking the same direction we were.

"So...uh..where are we going, Jade?"

"To the cafeteria."

"Oh...right..hows the food?"

"If you can imagine crap mixed with vegetables, that's about the texture and taste everyday."

"Wonderful...(I hated vegetables)"


We walked into the huge room, and I got a tray, was served this really odd looking brown-watery stuff, and sat down next to jade.

"Woah. This really does look crap mixed with water. I'm just glad it really isn't.."

"Don't be so sure..."

Well that one hit me right as I was swallowing the first spoonfull.

I spat as much of it out as I could, then slouched back in my chair and looked at the cieling. Large, dome shaped lights swayed back and forth...

Then a woman's face appeared in my view. She had bright orange hair, and her face had a scar on her right cheek.

"awwww what's this? Poor little baby can't eat his food, huh?"

At that moment I realized she must be angelfire.

But I had been picked on by bullies before, especially in high school, so I had a plan already worked out--I just hadn't used it in a good year or two.

"What's your problem?"

"My problem is you, little man. If you're going to live in this hellhole you might as well get used to the rules. And one of them is, never mess with me."

"And if I don't follow that rule?"

"I'll turn you into a cripple."

That one sent a shiver up my spine.

I stayed in the prison for a good week.

And then I heard the news....






Yuri was alive.

---Chapter 12---

Fuji looked around the barren plains of ash and dust that were once a beautiful forest. His feet had been burned slightly, but other than that he had been ok. Henry had flown out of the way of the tree and had just gotten his back singed.

But Yuri...Yuri was a different story.

She had rolled to her left, but not fast enough. The tree had hit her entire right side.

Fuji and Henry had watched in horror as she screamed, the flames burning her continously. Knowing there was nothing they could do, they ran off looking for water. They found a stream and cupped the water in their hands, then flew back and dropped it over the burning tree, and Yuri.

As the steam rose up, and the flames got smaller, Yuri stopped screaming and her head relaxed and hit the ground. Finally, two more handfulls of water fully put out the tree. The two ran up to Yuri.

Fuji looked at henry
(Keep in mind this is translated)

"I can't believe you did this! How could you lite the forest on fire, henry?!"

"I didn't do it, you must have!"

"I DID NOT! MOFO!!"

"YOU'RE THE MOFO!!"

"YOU WANT SOME HENRY?!"

"BRING IT ON, FUJI!"

And the two went at it again, amidst patches of flame in the ash, and smoke filling the entire valley.

A gasp from Yuri reminded them of what they still needed to do.

Running over to the tree, they tried with all their strength to move it.

"We'll settle this later, Fuji."

"No duh, aren't you the smart one. We're only trying to save your owner at the moment."

They moved the tree slightly off of yuri, and saw her chest moving slowly up and down--a good sign. It meant she was breathing, which meant she was alive.

But then the tree became much heavier, and the two were forced to let go. It crashed onto Yuri's right side again.

Another scream.

"Dammit Henry! You stopped pushing!"

"I did not! It was you!"

"IT WAS YOU! MOFO!

"YOU'RE THE MOFO!"

Etc.

But this time they were stopped by a blue thing flying through the air. It shot down at them, did a few frontflips and landed perfectly on its feet. It was a blue chao, just like themselves, except that it had, in big bold letters tattoed on its forehead
"Kazoo"

Fuji examined the newcomer. "I take it your name is kazoo."

"How'd you know?!"

Henry rolled his eyes.

"Well, it IS written on your forehead."

"Oh. Oops. I keep forgetting about that. I never need a mirror, so often I forget its there.

Henry spoke up.

"So, why are you here? This certainly isn't the place for a dream vacation."

"Well, let me think back...."

*FLASHBACK*

I was with my owner, Dark Diamond. He gave me to some force with black clothes...then I remember being attacked by a bunch of hildebears....

The next thing I remeber, I was in this really bright and pretty place. There were people with angel wings flying around. And then I heard that voice. It said:

"KAZOO. YOU MUST GO BACK TO THE WORLD OF THE LIVING, AND SAVE A PERSON'S LIFE."

Then this big hand came up and flicked me out of the pretty place, I fell and fell, screaming all the way, until I finally came through the atmosphere to ragol. Let me tell you, it was rather hot coming down, but after entry I started flying on the wind current, saw you guys, and here I am now."

"If that's true, fuji, he came here to save Yuri! We should try lifting the tree now!"

"No, really henry? I couldn't tell. After all, a holy voice from heaven never worked on me before. Sigh.."

The three ran over and tried again.

"Ready?" Said fuji.

"One!"

"Two!"

"Three!"

"LIFT!"

The tree went up a good foot, then crashed back onto Yuri.

"Dammit!" the three uttered in unison (Yes, chao have curse words too)

Then Fuji got an idea.

"STAND BACK!"

He ran back a few feet, then charged at the tree, mouth open.

He hit it, and for a few seconds a Buzzing sound, like that of a chainsaw, seemed to come out of his mouth.

Ten seconds later the tree was split in half, and Yuri removed from beneath it.

She was still unconscious, and the entire left side of her had been burned. The left side of her clothing had burned off, and her skin was also badly burned.

"We've gotta get her to the humans!", yelled henry, again the one to state the obvious.

Fuji just sighed and grabbed her left shoulder, Henry her right, and Kazoo grabbed her feet.

The three flew off through the air, going higher and higher, until they spotted, finally, the central dome.

Henry looked over at his owner, who had stopped breathing.

"Don't leave me..Yuri."

It was on that morning I Heard the news.

"NiGHTS. Yuri Asamiya is alive, however her status is severe and she may die, we are not sure. Sever burns to her right side have eaten away at her skin, and she lost a lot of blood. Perhaps worse than that, she has gone into a comma."

"A comma?"

"Yes. She was brought to us by three small chao, which have been watching over her since she came in. She does not speak, yet my nurses say they have heard her muttering phrases, 'Dreams', is what they all report to have heard her mumble."

"Dreams?"

"Yes. Dreams."

"Will I be allowed to see her?"

"No. We can only send you pictures and recordings. Your trail will affect what restrictions are placed on you, but until then, I'm afraid you'll have to wait."

"Alright.."

This was good, and bad news for me. Yuri was alive, but there was no point in it anymore, if she couldn't wake up...

Knowing that fuji and henry were alive was good as well, but didn't he mention 'three' chao? I wondered who the third was..

Jade smiled at me.

"You like her, don't you.?"

"Who?"

"That Yuri person. The one in the hospital."

"Well.....not really.."

"Aww cmon! Don't try to fool me with that! You forget I can read your mind. You do like her."

"Yeah...."

"So, tell her! Unless you plan on telling her, you'll never have a chance!"

"How would you know?!"

"Trust me. I've got experience in that area."

We both laughed.

"Hey...Jade..can you tell if she's going to be alright?"

"Sorry buddy, I can't read people's minds that are miles away. Judging from what the doctor told you though, I'd say the chances are.....slim...for her survival."

"So there's no hope..."

"Of course there is! There is always hope--and I know that you can do many things, NiGHTS, even if you are not permitted to."

"What?! How'd you know---oh wait....sigh..."

"I take it Nightopia was a very beautiful place...A world of dreams....how I would love to go there now.."

I leaned in closer to him and whispered,

("I'm not supposed to, Jade...but..I can take you there.".)

"No! As much as I would love to, I cannot go there. I must wait...."

"Wait for who?"

"The Keeper of the Red Key."

"The whatsis?"

"Just forget about it.."

"Alright..."

That afternoon I worked out on the weight set again. My scrawny arms were actually getting some muscle on them. Of course, then Angelfire, who was my spotter (aren't I lucky) let the bar drop on my chest. That one kinda hurt. She just laughed and walked off, and Jade came over and lifted it off me.

That night I didn't get much sleep. My trial was in three days. My fate would be determined by a judge, not a jury, and I had been told this judge worked for WORKS, the same prison I was in. I didn't know any more than that.

Three Days Passed.

......

"I find the defendant, NiGHTS, Section I.D. Bluefall, GUITLY of the charges pressed upon him.

These words rang through my ears, a painful echo in the courtroom.

"NiGHTS is to be put in jail for 6 months, and is then to be executed by means of lethal injection."

Wha?! This wasn't part of the plan for me!

"Your honor!" I shouted. "I am not guilty of this! I did not start that fire!"

"The defendant will remain silent!," he barked. "The evidence proves you wrong, NiGHTS, and over 30 people were injured in that fire, 10 of which nearly died. I'm sure they want justice for this, as well."

I was escorted out of the room by two Soldiers. They had an odd-colored wristband on. It read

"WORKSucks"

Stunned, I looked at their faces. and then looked again at the wristband. Wasn't works a part of the military, though?

"I take it you noticed the wristbands, eh?", He whispered.

The other one whispered now,

"Listen. We'll be coming for you tomarrow night. Just be ready. It might not be tomarrow, if it isn't you won't have a chance."

"I what?"

"Shh!"

Another soldier passed us in the hall.

As the other two led me to my cell, one whispered for the last time, "Just be ready. Tomarrow Night."

As they recharged the photon beams that blocked me from escaping my cell, I couldn't help but wonder exactly what they meant....

The next morning my death to come was the talk of the prison. Some cursed me for it, others hoorayed and encouraged me. One inmate even said,

"Hey! Be happy, dude! At least now you can get out of here!"

Yet I couldn't be happy.

That night I waited, and waited, and waited for something to happen.

No one came.

Shortly afterwords I became depressed. They had taken Fuji and Yuri away from me....screw henry, I never liked him anyway.

I stopped eating meals. The muscle I was gaining dissapeared as it was eaten by my body for energy.

I wanted to die. One of the last conversations I had with Jade in the cell took place around that time...

"NiGHTS, it isn't smart to do this."

"Why? What's the point if I'm just going to die anyway..."

"I know you can leave this world at anytime you want, NiGHTS."

"That's True. But which fate is worse? Getting killed or living, and having everyone forget every damn memory about you. Either way, I 'die'. You would even forget, Jade."

"No, actually I wouldn't."

"Yes, you would Jade..if I go back to Nightopia all memories of my times here will vanish, I will become a whisper on the wind, a puff of cloud in the sky, a small wave in a huge ocean. You will forget, as will everyone else."

"Is that so?", he asked.

"Yeah."

"I didn't forget the last time I met you."

"What!?"

"That's right. In the forest. Right as we arrived on ragol. You were there."

"You can't have remembered that! Wait a minute, you aren't--"

"Malachite. Jade Malachite."

"It was...it was....it was you!"

"That's right. That was when I worked for them. I'm sorry about what happened there."

"It's alright...those wounds have healed..."

"What about....the..."

"No. That wound will never heal..."

"I was afraid of that. I'm sorry for what I did, NiGHTS, but I don't work for them anymore. This is my gift, my present for working with them. My fate has not yet been decided, however."

"But how did you remember?"

"Hah! That's a secret, NiGHTS, a secret...but it's all in here..."

He tapped his head with his finger.

I couldn't see a point in living anymore. They had taken away everything that was special to me, and either way, I would lose it all... I could do naught but wait in my cell...


Seconds turned to mintues, minutes turned to hours, hours to days, days to weeks.

A month passed.

One night I awoke to hear a noise coming from the photon bars. I peered through the darkness, and was able to make out a figure standing there.

The figure jumbled with the keypad that locked the bars, then stopped.

The bars dissapeared.

I jumped out of bed, falling on one knee on front of him.

The conversation was all in whispers.

"Let's go. Hurry."

I nodded.

"Wait. Can another one come?"

I don't care, just do it fast, dammit."

I shook Jade.

"jade. get up. hurry."

He rolled over. He had been awake the entire time.

"No."

"Jade?! Come on! Don't you want to get out of here?!"

The figure tapped his watch.

"come on! Move it!"

I turned back to jade.

"NiGHTS..I cannot leave yet. There is much unfinished business I have yet to do."

The look in his eyes told me he was serious.

"Just make sure you take....angel..fire with you."

"What?! why?"

The guard whispered now.

"Come on! Let's get moving!"

Jade gave me a shove.

"Come on! Get out of here, NiGHTS! We will meet again. Don't worry. He looked at the figure. Long time no see."

The figure nodded. "Good to see you, Jade. You'll notice I changed as well."

"I'll take your word for it. Sayonara!"

With that I quickly walked down the hall with the dark figure. Stopping at Angelfire's cell, I noticed she was awake.

"Disengage the bars on this one."

"You better make it quick."

The figure did, and angelfire came out to greet me.

"I didn't think you had the balls to do this , NiGHTS."

"I've got a lot more that you didn't think I had, now let's go!"

The guard led us through the labrynth of hallways, prison cells, and doors. Many times we would have to stop for a moment, and pray that the soldier on watch didn't see us.

Finally we came to a door.

The figure looked at us. "This is the entrance to the hovercar lot here. This is the back entrance, so only a few cars will be here. Yours is the one without a license plate. Good luck to you both."

"You're not coming?"

"Nope. Now I have to create a distraction....run! hurry! Leave this place, and go on with your lives-but do me a favor. Promise me that you will find out about WORKS, and promise me, Promise me that you will stop them."

"Consider it done."

With that he activated the door, and ran off down the hallway.

Angelfire and I stepped out into the windy city again. Gusts blew by, it was most likely late night, and we searched for the hovercar. We found it. It was black, a dark, dark black, and seemed to blend in with the nightlife of the city. We found it unlocked and got inside.

About that time an alarm went off, and I started the hovercar up with the keys already in it.

We took off, and as we flew away, I looked back at the prison one more time.

Shocked, I took another look. Was I reading that right?

"Joe's Antique Store. Closed-year round. Coming soon, Joe's refried bean cafe."

Now it made sense. It was a secret prison. WORKS had a secret prison, but the reason for its secrecy NiGHTS didn't know. As he and angelfire flew off into the city of Pioneer 2, a voice that echoed through the hallways, amidst the blaring sirens and flashing red lights, said :

"Thank you....Brother."

"Uhh ok..."

NiGHTS and Angelfire entered the taxi. The prison had gotten screenshots of their hovercar, so they ditched it and were now using a taxi to get around.

Angelfire, the RAmarl, sure seemed seemed happy.

"Hey, NiGHTS, we got out, we might as well celebrate, right?"

"Uh..sure..you can do that. But there's somewhere I've got to go."

"Hang on. Are you saying we should split up?"

"What else is there to do? We're out now, we can both go our separate ways and maybe one day we'll see each other again. Personally, I don't know if I'll mind. You DID drop that 10 Pound bar on my chest."

"It was 10 freaking pounds! It's not that heavy!"

"It was for me...."

"Well, alright then. I can't thank you enough for getting me out of that place. Now they'll have to find a new queen bitch to do their dirty work."

"You what?"

"Yeah... I did some wierd things in that prison, and a lot of it was because I was the toughest one in there. Lots of times they would make me sneak something somewhere, or once I had to go down to ragol."

"Why didn't you just run away?"

"The tracking system. It was on my neck, and if I went out of my vicinity, it would electrocute me; kind of like those dog collars that they had in the 21st century. "

"Didn't they ban those?"

"Yeah. But that doesn't stop the military from doing it. Hell, the military would violate laws just to piss the lab and the government off, if you ask me."

The taxi stopped. "Here we are" said Big John. "Pioneer Hospital Alpha emergency room section. You guys gettin' off?"

"I'm getting off" I said. "As for her, take her anywhere she wants to go." I handed him 10,000 meseta, which was in the hovercar.

"I opened the door and got out. "I'll see you later, Angelfire."

She smiled. "Thanks for everything, NiGHTS. This was one of the first times she had seemed nice.

"No Problem. I'll see you again someday, I'm sure..."

I started to walk away, door still open, when I heard her call after me

"NiGHTS! Wait! I....just wanted to say........I think you're kinda cute!"

With that she shut the door and the car sped off again.

"I'm already taken.." I thought as I entered the swinging doors to the hopsital. The rooms were crowded with people bustling about, children crying and doctors running left and right. I walked up to the counter.

"I'm here to see Yuri asamiya."

The lady at the counter, dressed like all the nurses at pioneer 2, typed in a series of numbers on her small computer.

"Yuri. Sorry, that room is restricted. Can I have your name? I might be able to let you in."

I pondered telling her my real name or not. I WAS an escaped convict, after all.

"NiGHTS."

"Last name?"

"Uh....dreams"

"Middle?"

"Into."

"Interesting name you have there, let's just see your current status.
The computer bleeped and she gasped.

"Why! You're-You're!"

"Shh!" I leaned over the counter. "Please. I didn't do anything. I came to see yuri. I love her. Please! You have to let me in! If you sound the alarm I'll be put back there and I'll never see her again! Please!", I begged her, "please...she's all I have left..."

The nurse nearly broke out in tears. "Of c-course, I'll let you go! Now you go in there and you tell her you love her! And prove your love to her! And then you gotta--"

This was like one of those motivational speeches, and god did I hate these. I pretended to play along though, otherwise she might report me. Just glad it was a female nurse, any guy would have turned me in real fast. Women seem to be more caring, and I guess if she was that girl in the hospital she would have wanted her love to go to her too. The thing was, I still didn't know if Yuri really liked me or not. Ah, well, my chances weren't too slim...I hoped.

"...So you go in there, honey, and you tell her that ya love er', and then you take her home in your arms and ya get married!"

"Uh.. I'll do that."

I smiled. That was a bit farfetched at the moment, considering Yuri was in a comma, but oh well.

The nurse herself led me down to Yuri's room, unlocked the door, winked at me and gave me a shove.
"You go get her, honey!"

As I stumbled into the room I saw Yuri, lying on the bed. She had a hopsital gown on and three chao were huddled together sleeping in a corner.

I recognized Fuji and Henry, but the third, who had in big bold letters written 'Kazoo' on his forehead, was new to me.

I walked over to Yuri's bed. She was breathing softly, and her eyes were closed.

"Y...yuri..."

No answer.

"Yuri...please....come back..."

Just her soft breathing.

"Yuri....yuri...I... I.."

I realized it was time. I would break the rules, no matter what the consequence. I had come this far, and I was not about to fail. I didn't know if this would erase her memories or not, but I decided this was better than her lying there for the rest of her life. She had IV's in her arms, and her skin was pale.

"Forgive me, Yuri.."

As tears started to form in his eyes, he placed his hand on her forehead. A faint light emitted, and then in a flash, he was gone.

Angelfire got out of the car. "Dick's Eateries." Her favorite night club. It had changed a lot since she went into prison, but it felt just like normal. She walked in to the sounds of the pool tables, the bartenders, and the chimes of glasses.

Taking a seat at a table she noticed a 'new addition'.

Oddly enough, there was a HUcast dancing around a pole, he was wearing women's clothing, and people in the crowd (men, oddly enough) were shouting "Yeah! Cybernetix! Yeah!" The Hucast twirled around the pole, then ripped off his dress. Under that was....well...you know. He was dancing around, an android dressed in...yeah..and he slide around his pole and throw kisses at the HUmar's in the crowd.

Angelfire nearly fainted, a thing HIGHLY uncommon considering her personality.

"This...this is...."

"--A gay bar!" Interuppted the HUCast as he walked over to her.

"This isn't the Dick's that I remember."

"Well, it was sold off to a new manager a year ago. And the name isn't dick's eatery anymore. Now it's "Dick's Dicks"

Angelfire took a step back.

"No way. This is too wierd."

The HUcast stepped toward her.
"Hey, baby. It's not too bad, TRUST me, I would know" He winked at her.

"Alright, that's enough. Time for some ass-whoopin!"

Angelfire kicked the HUcast in the face, then spun around and pulled both his feet out from under him.

He fell to the ground.

"Hah! That'll teach you. I'm getting outta here.."

The others laughed as she walked out.

Exiting, she felt the gust of the cars pass by as she walked through the doors.

"So...where am I gonna go now...."

She looked at the military building, standing tall above the others.

"Aha! Time for some payback..."

She walked on through the streets, now a blip on the map, wanted, yet not wanted, she was on her own again, and she was loving every moment of it-aside from the gay bar part.

---Chapter 16---

All she saw was darkness. Darkness. Everywhere...then a light came...and suddenly she was a in a world where anything was possible; were she could fly, where gravity could be controlled at will, and where small bald angel-looking things flew around fishing for pieces of cake.

She stayed in this happy place for a long time, never sleeping, never eating, yet none of it mattered here.

She lost track of time; there was no day, no night, just the cheery lifestyle that she lived.

One day a young boy, a few years younger than her, with blue, spiky, hair and blue eyes, came up to her.

"Who are you?"

"I"m elliot! What are you doing in Nightopia?"

"I....don't know...whats a Nightopia..?"

"It's this!" He spread his arms around the scenery.

"This world of dreams is nightopia! Anything is possible, even--"

He was cut off as a girl with pink hair ran up to him, she was cute enough, and the boy turned around and waved at her.

"Hey claris!"

"Hi elliot!"

He turned around to her again.

"Sorry, looks like I've got to go...what is your name, anyway...?"

"My name....my name...is......it's...."

She couldn't remember.

Elliot had a questionable look.

"Oh well, its no problem! See you around!"

And then he and the pink-haired girl skpped through the land arm in arm, and she could have sworn she saw them kiss near the end.

"If only I had someone that cared that much about me..."

A long, long, time passed. Then, one day, she was surprised by a visitor whom she had never seen before. Or so she thought.

As she looked up from her comfy sleep on the ground, she noticed a bright light come from the shrine which was in the middle of that world. The shrine had done nothing until that moment. Running up, she stopped in front of it, amazed at the beauty of the light.

Then the light dissapeared, and a floating, purple figure with two things drooping off the back of its head and a red gem on its chest, looked at her and smiled.

The voice she heard was in her mind, not spoken.

"Yuri. Hello."

Yuri! That name...it was so familiar...

"Who are you?"

"I am NiGHTS.... don't you remember?"

NiGHTS..that name was also familiar...but she couldn't place either of them. It was as if a cloud had fogged her memories, she knew they were there, but could not reach them.

The figure frowned and floated next to her.

"Yuri. That's your name, isn't it?"

Yuri! Yes! That was it!"

NiGHTS placed his hand over her forehead, and a blue light appeared.

"Let's see if you remember now."

A dark shadow flew out of her head, and dissapated into the world of dreams.

Then she remembered. She remembered NiGHTS, and the adventure, and finding him, and then...then she remember the fire.

"You saved....me?"

"Not quite. But in a way, yes. Yuri. It's time for you to come back with me now. Henry needs you. I need you. Hell, I never thought I would say this, but even Fuji needs you."

Yuri floated up in the air.

"Yes, thats it Yuri, keep remembering. Remember the times we had, remember the fights, remember the arguements, remember...remember. But don't forget. Don't forgegt, alright?! If you forget, Yuri...there will be no point in any of this."

"I'll never forget, NiGHTS. I've got it all up here." She tapped her head with her finger.

"Familiar, indeed.", thought NiGHTS as he floated in front of her.

"This is the last part, Yuri," he said as he prepared.

"What are you going to do?"

"I'm going to get you out of here."

He kissed her, and then in a flash it was all gone.

Yuri awoke in the bed.

"What?! Where....where....am ....I..?

Henry, recognizing the voice, woke up and jumped onto her bed.

He hugged her head and then sat down on the bed in front of her.

"Who are you?"

Henry, confused, sat there for a moment trying to ponder this.

Henry tapped his head with his finger.

Mimicking him, yuri did the same.

"Wait! Wait! You're Henry!" She looked at the corner. "And that's Fuji! And....wait...where.......where is...NiGHTS?"

Henry shrugged his shoulders.

"NiGHTS?!" She got up, tugging at the I.V. in her arm. She relaxed and looked around again, trying not to tug it.

"Nights........where......where are you..."

Then she rethought the words in the dream.

"This is very dangerous Yuri, there's a chance that I won't make it out with you...if that happens...you're just going to have to go on in life without me. Either way, this is better for the both of us..."

But what good was life if she couldn't live it with NiGHTS?

"NiGHTS....I....."

She began crying, and a nurse entered the room. It was, in fact, the same nurse that had let NiGHTS in.

"Oh my good gracious! She's awake!" She entered in some things into the computer, and yuri felt the I.V. leave her arm.

The nurse looked around. "Hey! Where's that handsome young man I sent in here?"

Yuri looked up.

"You.....sent someone...in here..?"

"Why, yes! He was a small force with a purple robe, called himself 'NiGHTS' I think. You know honey, he has something going for you" She winked at Yuri.

Then the nurse realized NiGHTS really wasn't in the room.

"Oh my good heavens! He didn't--he--he didn't leave you?! And that's why you're crying! He left you for someone else! Oh my darling!" The nurse hugged Yuri.

Yuri, now quite confused, was only able to say:

"That's not quite what happened."

"Oh. Well then I'll see what I can do for you. But if he comes back you tell him to talk to me, you hear? I'll give him a piece of my mind for leaving you!"

With that the nurse left the room, and Yuri went back to crying for her lost friend.

"NiGHTS........I.........I......." She remembered the kiss, and finally was able to mutter

".....I love you."

A flash blinded her eyes, and when she opened them, she saw NiGHTS, now back in FOmar state, lying on the ground. He got up, looked at her and smiled.

"You remembered."

---Chapter 17--- (The Beginning of the End)

NiGHTS, Yuri, and the three chao were all living at Yuri's Apartment, located in a somewhat junky part of Pioneer 2. Yuri's house, however, was nice and tidy and clean; and she was really picky if something was out of place. This set up quite a few laughs on fuji's part, as he would purposely hide the remote in the oven, throw her picture into the ashes of the fire, etc.

NiGHTS slept on the couch, while Yuri slept in her own bed. The chao all slept in a small doghouse that Yuri had never used.

After nearly a week, NiGHTS had decided to check what was on television, he wasn't afraid anymore of what he might see, or what the chao or Yuri might see.

He turned it on.

A male news reporter on the channel 32 was talking.

"...and that's all coming up next on your local news at ten!"

Doh. Commercials.

"Parents. Remember the fun you had with this old antique?' The screen flashed a picture of a dreamcast.

"Of course you do! If you didn't have one of these as a kid that means you actually HAD A life-Which these days just isn't possible! But now, parents, these models are becoming popular again, and sega is releasing their "Sega Dreamcast 2 1/2!" This one was a metallic blue, and smaller than previous ones. It had that orange little swirl thing still, though.

"For just 3 easy payments of 79.99 this amazing system can be yours! Play games, listen to music, surf the web, play online games! It's all possible with sega's newes----"

fccchht. He changed the channel.

"...so, then I said to the guy, Listen sir I---"

fccccht.

"...Did anyone hear that joke about the pope and maryln manson?"

Fccccht.

"And next we take ze cake and we putz it into ze bowl! Voila! C'est Fantastique!"

Fcccht.

"Tonight, on Pioneer 2's Top 10 most wanted."

"Two inmates reportedly escaped from jail not long ago, getting out of a high securrity prison located on ragol.

Ragol? What?

"The names of these two, NiGHTS, and Angelfire, are highly dangerous and the government asks that if you see them--" It flashed a picture of each. "--that you report them immediatly. They are most likely armed and are said to have no fear of death."

Hey, now that was a compliment, right?

"Starting in at #10 on Pioneer 2's Top 10 Most Wanted list is Moonstone, --"

NiGHTS dozed off a bit, until he heard...

'And coming in place number 3 is NiGHTS. Full name "NiGHTS Into Dreams." This odd name has many wondering if it is a cover up name for his real one, however goverment records all prove that wrong. He escaped from prison by violently grabbing a watchman as he came by and forcing him to turn off the bars. NiGHTS escaped with angelfire, and they were last seen in THIS car :"

It flashed some pictures of the black car taking off, then went back.

"Coming up in number 2 is the RAmarl Angelfire. Her fiery orange hair is a description of her personality, fellow inmates say. Escaping with NiGHTS, she is highly dangerous and was last seen here:

It flashed a picture of the sign 'Dick's Eateries."

"And then, coming up in number one is--"

fcccht. NiGHTS didn't really care who it was.

He turned the channel back, going up now instead of down. He flashed back on the top 10 most wanted list, saw a face and then kept surfing up.

Wait a minute. That face.... He clicked it back quickly.

"y...Eclipse. This red haired HUnewearl has escaped from a high-security prison as well. She was last seen wearing a red top and and red shorts, and her red hair is unmistakeable. Officers say there is a good chance she will change her hair to avoid being spotted. They call out to all hunters to hunt this person down. Again, that name is Ruby Eclipse."

Ruby...Eclipse. Where had he seen that face before....?

Oh well. He was getting tired, and he nodded off to sleep on the couch.
----

A light shone on a sleek, wooden table. Two hands came out from the darkness around it and rested on the table.

"You see.," A raspy voice said, "It is quite easy to see what we need to do."

Another voice from the darkness replied,

"But sir. I still don't understand."

"You shouldn't yet!," the other hissed "It's just like a game of cat and mouse."

"Sir?"

"NiGHTS is our cat., are you following me?"

"Yes, of course, sir."

"And who is NiGHTS closest to?"

"Judging from our reports, sir, the girl Yuri and his pet Fuji."

"Right. So, they are our 'mouse'."

"That'd be 'mice', sir."

"SHADDUP! I Don't need you to tell me when I'm right or wrong! Be quiet and listen!"

"Yes, sir!"

The raspy voice let out an evil cackle.

"You see....if we get the mice, the cat will follow. By getting Yuri and Fuji we can lead NiGHTS right into our trap. And even if he avoides it; he is at our mercy. We can use Yuri and Fuji as shields; if he doesn't obey, we harm them."

"That's....brilliant, sir, but is it humane?"

"NOTHING IS HUMANE ANYMORE, CAPTAIN KYOTSO!"

"oh, right sir."

"That's what I thought. You are dismissed."

There were the sound of foosteps, then the whoosh of a door opening.

"One last thing, captain."

"Sir?"

"Tell black paper I need to meet with them....in private."

"Yes Sir!"

"You're dismissed."

The door closed.

"See you soon, NiGHTS....it's been far too long....hah, haha, HAHAHAHAH!"

Yuri returned home from grocery shopping at around 10:00 P.m. Night in the city wasn't really that much different from day; artififical light, hovercars zooming by, it was like a metropolis of the future, one that didn't sleep, didn't rest, didn't....live, it seemed to her.

As she stepped into the elavator to go up to the fifth floor of the building, which is where her apartment was, she thought she heard something. But the elevator was empty, so she shrugged it off and pushed "Floor 5".

With a loud hum the elevator started up, taking her up to her floor.

"Why couldn't they afford warps..", she wondered as the elevator rose. Warps were available, highly available, in fact, but they were costly. She hated waiting in these slow elevators..

"I don't know how my ancestors could have been able to stand this..", she muttered, looking at her black, new shoes. They were shiny sleek, and stylish, she thought, they had better be at least, costing her 10,000 meseta for the pair.

Looking down, she saw an odd glare on her right shoe.

"What's that?" She leaned in. The blurry image in her shoe didn't make any sense. She could see the reflection of the elevator light, but then there was--a face?!"

Realizing the image, she slowly raised her head to look at the roof.

"Hello, pretty. Let's go for a ride."

There was a thud, and a short-lived, muffled scream. Then there was silence.

The elevator doors opened on the fifth floor, but no one walked out.

NiGHTS got up and yawned. A cool breeze refreshed him, but the mornings on pioneer 2 just...weren't quite as nice as those on ragol, he thought as he got up and got some breakfast.

"Eggs and bacon! Yum....
----
Hey, Fuji! Get up, little guy, chow time!"

No response.

"huh? Fuji must be pretty sick today if he doesn't feel good enough to eat, I'll just go see what's up.."

He peeked in the doghouse. There was henry , and kazoo, but...wait a minute...fuji?!

He ran into yuri's room. Yuri wasn't there either.

"Yuri?!"

Then he thought about the cool breeze he had felt. It wasn't the air conditioner; was it--

He turned around and found the window, shattered, with a small note attached to it.

"This is too wierd.. I must still be dreaming.."

He walked over and read the note.

"NiGHTS. We have the girl and your pet. If you ever want to see them again, we need you to a little job for us. If you don't reply by tomarrow night, we will harm them."

then, written evidently by a different hand was :

"OH DO NOT YOU FORGET! WE WILL HARMED THEM IF YOU DO NOT COME! MUWHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA OH I AM SO EVIL MUWHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH"

What the hell? Evidently the second writer needed some help with his english that day...

But NiGHTS was a bit more worried about Yuri and Fuji than poor grammar.

He decided his plan and woke up Henry and Kazoo.

"Get up, little guys. We've got a big day ahead of us."
----

Angelfire, dressed now in a WORKS military outfit, walked through the hall of the building. Beating up the officer and taking his uniform was no problem; finding what was underneath the uniform was rather sickening, however.

The fifteen story building stood tall and proud in Pioneer 2, 15 stories tall and many feet across. This was the headquarters of works, the most dangerous military group of them all.

"Floor 15 Access Denied. Verification Requested. Fingerprint match test requried to access."

A small, clear, shiny and rubbery thing shot out from the elevator door and waited for her handprint.

"Better not try this...", she thought. "They'll find me for sure... I'm gonna have to find another way in.."

She walked out of the elevator, trying to blend in as well as possible. Not easy, but she was doing ok.

As she walked through the halls, trying to look pre-occupied, she was actually trying to think of another way up there.

"Elevators aren't gonna work, stairs are monitored by guards...what other ways are there?"

A sudden sound from above shot her glance at it. Tiles of styrofoam, or something like it, lined the roof......

"Too easy."

A few minutes later she was climbing in between the spaces of the tiled roofs. Oddly enough, the floors on all the other parts of the building were made of this tiled substance as well, but styrofoam could definetly not support weight of that amount. She decided to worry about it later. Right now, she had a job to do.

---Chapter 19---

Reala Unmasked

"Sir! We have a confirmation from black paper that they are ready to go when you are. They have the note and are all ready to go."

"Goood.....what's the status on our two targets?"

"The girl is currently driving home from a local mart, and the chao is sound asleep."

"Hmm...tell them to get them both by any means possible--but they must not awake NiGHTS. Leave the note in a spot where he'll see it easily. Once they have them, bring them to me immediatly."

"Yes, sir!" The Captain, who had long blonde hair, and blue eyes, turned around and entered in some buttons on his terminal.

"This is black Paper, Rasta speaking. How can I help you, captain?"

"Here are your orders: You are to get the girl and chao, leave a note at the window, then....."

Sometime later that night.....
------------------------------

"Sir. Black Paper has arrived with the targets."

"Good, very good indeed. Bring them to me."

"Black Paper, come on up. He's anxious to see the catch."

"Roger that, we'll be right there."

A few seconds later the door opened, and inside the elevator was a cloaked figure, the long black cloak covering the head to the feet of whoever it was.

"My lords. Here they are."

The Raspy-voiced man walked up to look at the two. He had long, black hair, with red stripes in it alternating at points. He had two red triangles directly above and below each eye, and long, frightening fingers.

"What have we here..." The cloaked figure threw yuri out of the doorway. Her hands were tied behind her back.

"My, aren't you a pretty? No wonder NiGHTS seems to like you....hah. I remember long ago, NiGHTS used to like someone else, you know."

Yuri stood up, rather hard with her hands behind her back, and was only able to reply: "Who...... who are you?"

"Me? My name, Yuri, is not to be said in this world. In Nightopia I am known as Reala, the keeper of Nightmares, the lord of all that is evil and distraught.

"You're.....from nightopia?"

"That's right. Now you've heard enough for the time being. Captain, gag her and take her to the next room."

"Yes, sir!" He grabbed yuri by her wrists and drug her through a door leading to another room.

Then, of course, came fuji. Locked inside a metal cage, fuji was jumping around, cleary angry and distraught at being kidnapped.

The cloaked figure pointed a long, bony finger at the cage. "It was the only thing he wouldn't eat out of. He's quite strong, be careful."

Reala, dressed in a red robe, bent down and looked at the chao.

"Hello there. How are we doing?"

"MACHA WAHA NO CHI JA JOOJA!!!" (Translation: "I'M DOING HORRIBLE YOU BAST***, NOW LET ME OUT OF THIS GODDAM CAGE BEFORE I BITE YOUR F****** HEAD OFF!!!!")

"Uh....you really need to gag this one too. Have my captain take it to room B..."

"It shall be done, my lord."

With that Reala walked off and sat down in a chair while his captain dealt with fuji.

Reala let his head relax forward a bit, and put his finger up to his chin.

"So, NiGHTS....I'll be seeing you very soon...."

NiGHTS walked into the large, fifteen story building. They had been waiting for him, it seemed, but no one would touch him. They all merely pointed to the elevator.

"Uh....alright..." He walked up.

A passer by whispered, "Floor 15. That's where he'll be."

"Who?"

Too late, the person had already walked off down the hall.

As NiGHTS pushed the button for floor 15 he couldn't help but wonder who 'he' was.

"Floor 15 Access denied. Fingerprint verification required for access." A small, shiny and transluscent thing shot out from the wall of the elevator. He placed his hand on it.

"Scanning........"

"........................"

"Access Granted. Moving to floor 15."

Bwheee.....

NiGHTS looked around himself, and saw mirror images everywhere. Woah. Suddenly all four walls were made of glass; mirrors, in fact. The roof was the only distinguishable part.

Finally the elevator stopped and in front of him the doors opened; or so he thought. Walked forward he ran right into the mirror. Oops, wrong side. Turning around he walked through the real door and looked into a large and magnificent room, filled with plants of all types, and peaceful fountains spraying water in some corners.

"It's been a while, NiGHTS."

That voice. He recognized it immediatly, not needing to see the figure float from the sky and drop in front of him.

Night frowned.

"Reala."

"That's right. I hoped you wouldn't forget."

"So. Where are they?"

"Where's who?"

"Don't play dumb with me, Reala! Yuri and Fuji! Where are they?!"

"Oh, of course....haha, captain, please show him Yuri..."

A light flashed on to the left, showing more of the room than NiGHTS had seen. A good ten feet in the air was yuri, her arms and legs each tied and bound to a corner of a massive square, in which she was tied in the center.

"Yuri!"

She was gagged, and still wearing the clothes she had on the last time he had seen her.

"Now, NiGHTS, if you don't follow us...this is a sample of what I'm afraid we'll have to do....Captain, tighten the ropes please.."

A machine started up, and the four ropes began pulling towards the corner they came out of, tightening the grip on yuri and stretching her limbs.

A muffled scream was all NiGHTS needed to hear.

"Alright! Stop it! Shut it off!"

"Captain, that's enough.."

The ropes stopped tightening, and yuri's heavy breathing through her nose could be heard by both NiGHTS and Reala.

"Now, NiGHTS, we also have your...little...'pet'.

A large cage from the roof lowered down before them. In it was fuji, happily eating away at over a hundred hamburgers that were stacked there for his enjoyment.

"Well, NiGHTS, aren't you going to give him a call?"

"Fuji! Hey! Fuji!"

The chao looked up, smiled, and went back to eating his hamburger.

"Huh?! Fuji?!"

Reala shook his head.

"Tsk tsk, NiGHTS, it appears your pet likes my food a bit more than yours...If you ever want to have him back, you need to go along with us..."

"What do I need to do?"

"Simple. I want you to hunt down and kill someone....someone by the name of..."Angelfire". She's a RAmarl with---"

"I know."

"Alright then, is it a deal?"

"Deal."

"Stay here. Angelfire will be arriving any moment...."

"Alright. If you don't give Yuri and Fuji back to me after this, I WILL kill you, Reala."

"Tough words, but you aren't in any position to back them up. Just for that, Captain, tighten the ropes a bit more."

Yuri's muffled scream was followed by a teardrop, which fell, glistening and shining from the light until it splashed onto the ground.

"Dammit! I said I'd do it!"

"I realize. Just don't get too cocky, NiGHTS. You're under my command, now."

---CHAPTER 20--- FINALE PART 1: "In My Dreams"


The roof tile crashed down onto the floor, revealing a crouching RAmarl.

Reala turned and smiled.

"Well, here she is. Alright, NiGHTS, go at it."

Angelfire, trying to figure out what was going on, looked at NiGHTS as she stood up.

"What's going on, NiGHTS?"

"Angelfire...I'm sorry..."

"Huh?"

"I'm afraid I have to kill you."

"What?! No way, NiGHTS! You're more of a man than to fall for his traps, aren't you?!"

"I can't make those decisions anymore. Yuri's life is in their hands."

Meanwhile, up above between the roof tiles were crawling two small chao, who fit snugly in the small space. Henry donned a miner's hat with a light on the front, and kazoo was wearing heat-vision glasses. They heard voices from below, and stopped crawling. They couldn't fully hear what was going on, but they did hear:

"Damn you NiGHTS. You're really serious."

"Yes."

Then a raspy voice broke in.

"NiGHTS. Angelfire. I have a nice little arena already set up for you... Captain! Boot up Hologram Arena Number 503467."

The room suddenly turned into an old colisseum. NiGHTS appeared at one end and Angelfire at the other.

"I hope you two find this enjoyable... I know I will!"

With a loud BANG the start of the fight was announced.

NiGHTS was worried. "This is the first time I've ever had to kill someone before...can I really do this?"

Angelfire was thinking the exact same thing.

Kazoo looked at Henry. "You ready for this?"

"Ready as I will ever be, I suppose."

"Well...alright then. Just be careful ok? I'll hold the rope for you. You know the drill."

"The one NiGHTS told us?"

"No! The one I made up!"

"Oh. I kind of liked NiGHTS' plan better..."

"His plan won't work anymore! Listen! Do you wanna save your owner or not!?"

"You're right. I'm ready."

Henry gnawed away a small circle through the roof tile and peered down. Far to his right was Yuri, bound by ropes, and far to his left were NiGHTS and some woman, the two walking towards each other. Henry secured the rope around his stomach with another knot and made sure it was tight.

"Just don't drop me, Kazoo."

"Don't worry about it..."

"Austa la vista. Baby."

With that Henry did a back somersault and fell through the hole.

"I really don't want to do this, Angelfire."

"Neither do I. Hey....c'mere...."

NiGHTS walked up to Angelfire. She whispered gently.

"Listen, I'm going to fake my defeat, alright?"

"what?"

"You heard me. Now start winning!"

She threw him to the side. Getting up, he dusted himself off and nodded. Reala, watching from above, just smiled.

NiGHTS ran at Angelfire, casting barta directly below her armpit, one that froze a bit of her clothing, not hurting her but sure making it look like it.

She whispered. "Nights. You're gonna have to actually hit me. No more of this fake stuff. Give me all you've got!"

"Alright. Just remember, you asked for it...."

NiGHTS charged a beam of gibarta while angelfire pulled out a pair of Yasminkovs she had taken off a soldier.

"Let's go, NiGHTS!"

And then the fight truly began.

Angelfire shot forth a good 50 bullets from the tommy-gun style antiques, and NiGHTS sent forth his level 30 gibarta.

The ice and the bullets hit,gibarta freezing the bullets in mid air before they fell to the ground.

There was a constant thud as the iced bullets crashed into the sand.

Now NiGHTS took the offensive, charing angelfire and blasting gifoie directly in front of her.

Her aerobic skill was shown as she did three back-hand springs followed by a back flip before landing on her feet, and putting her out of range of the circle of fire.

"Not bad...NiGHTS."

"Ditto."

Henry swung back and forth, each time getting nearer to the odd square shaped thing in which yuri was tied up in the middle.

The slight creak of the rope was covered up by the fight going on behind him. Back and forth he swung, trying to get as close to Yuri as he could. Then, as Kazoo's plan went, he would use his teeth and chew through the ones binding her arms first. Then he would get the ones on her legs, and she would be free!

Up above Kazoo was watching the fight while holding tightly to the rope. Watching the heat image of a fight was actually really cool, he thought.

"If only I could watch this and not have to worry about holding the rope..." He rummaged through a small backpack he had brought with him and pulled out a very large paperweight, made of concrete.

"This oughta do the trick.." Tying the rope around the paperweight, he tested it first, and, once he found it safe, was able to let go and watch the fight with his hands free.

"There's something inside me that crawls beneath the surface. Consuming. Confusing...."

"This lack of self-control I feel is never-ending. Controlling. I can't seem to find myself again, my walls are closing in......"

"I've felt this way before............So insecure."

Angelfire shot down low and tripped nights with her feet.

As nights fell, he raised his hand and shot a blast of rafoie at her stomach.

After the explosion of heat, angelfire got up a good ten feet away and so did Nights.

Both were sweating and breathing heavily.

Angelfire was panting for breath, the last attack hurting her badly.

"I....I....didn't....think you.....had this much......power..."

"I....do when.....it's needed..."

Reala floated above the two, a ways up so that he was out of view, but also had a very nice 'seat' to watch the fight in.

"I wonder which one will go first..."

He laughed.

"Here I come NiGHTS. Are you ready?"

Nights looked around the ring. Where was that voice coming from?

Angelfire didn't seem to hear it, evident as she was wondering what the heck NiGHTS was doing.

"NiGHTS. Are you ready?!"

"Who---who are you?"

"I'm coming, NiGHTS. The Brother of Beryl has come seeking his vengeance."

Angelfire yelled across the ring. "NiGHTS! Are we gonna fight or what?"

"oh. right. Let's go."

She threw her yasminkovs in the artificial desert sand, which blew across the field, and pulled out her guilty light.

Nights jumped to the right, skidding on the sand as the blast shattered the wall where he had been standing.
As the pieces of debris hit the ground, he pondered how a gun could be that strong.

"Woah. That things got a lot of power."

He got back up and prepared for the next shot.

NiGHTS found himself at Reala's Palace.

The sky was clouded and grey. He was inside a large, open area, with four massive pillars in each corner, marked by the large black and red horizontal stripes. In each corner was a floating flame, and in the middle, a large pillar. On it a chair, and in that chair...

"I'll get rid of you for good, this time."

"I don't think so, NiGHTS. You're in my part of the nightmare now. Let's see how you do with my toys.."

Reala Snapped his fingers, and suddenly NiGHTS found himself in a dark place, with a fire in the middle. Keep in mind that in Nightopia nights is constantly flying in the air...

A high pitched scream sent his vision to a flying dragon, with a massive, rounded head and a huge mouth with sharp teeth. It had a long tail with spikes lining it.

"Gillwing? It's been a while, big boy..."

NiGHTS did a spin and shot himself towards gillwing. A hundred feet up in the air, this was what NiGHTS was used to.

He outstretched his arms to either side, locked his legs straight behind him, smiled, and prepared for the fight.

"Lower me a bit more."

"Ok....."

Henry swung a little farther this time, thanks to the extra rope kazoo had loosened.

"Yeah. That's good. Now just keep me steady..."

Henry swung, back and forth, back and forth, each time getting closer to Yuri. Yuri's eyes were closed.

Another swing and he finally reached the edge of the large, white squareish thing. Crawling to the other side, he saw how it worked. The ropes were strung together, and made an 'X', with Yuri being tied right in the center. This kept her aloft the entire time.

"Now how am I gonna cut her down without her falling onto the floor? Oh well, I'll just see what happens.." He crawled up the side of it until he reached the right hand corner of the X. Biting away, he soon tore through and the resistance on it released. Yuri moaned for a moment while he moved to the other top corner.
Biting through the top left hand corner of the X, Yuri’s arms were now free. What he didn't realize was that with her feet still bound she would fold over quite uncomfortably due to gravity. Then he noticed two small, yet visible strings, one on each side, tied to her waste.

"Better make sure I get those, too..."

He tore through one of the small strings, and then crawled to the other on the opposite side. Why he didn't just cut through the bottom ropes as he crawled past them no one knows, but chao do think awkwardly sometimes. I guess they're just focused on the task at hand.

Kazoo was watching on through the roof. Watching the fight of course, not Henry. He could see the FOmar and the RAmarl fighting close together, and he saw the other figure floating above them with its hands crossed in front of its chest.

Henry crawled onto Yuri's head and removed the gag.

She took a deep breath...

A little too deep..

Two figures in black robes emerged from the shadows, and aimed their guns at the pair.

The guns resembled rifles, long and slim, but with an extended barrel. These were the WORKS elite military unit classified guns known as the 'Revelation' series. They were deadly, precise, and best of all, could fire at 6 times faster than the speed of any mechgun. You wouldn't know you had been shot at until you were dying on the ground. They made no sound when the fired, and could also be easily hidden away.....

They aimed their guns, and prepared to fire.

Henry, in a panic, was clinging tightly to Yuri’s head, and she tried squirming to get him off. This caused her to fall backwards, folding her directly above the stomach. Henry still hung tightly.

In a moment of panic Henry leapt from Yuri’s head onto the side of the X, and screamed in chao,

"PULL ME UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Kazoo, unfortunately, heard this all to late...


The figures fired their guns.

8 Photon Bullets ricocheted all around Henry.

6 Photon Bullets hit Yuri directly in her belly.

She screamed, the gag being removed, and reala was quickly distracted away from his fight.

"I told you not to harm her! Pathetic Worms..." He looked at them, extended his right arm, and clenched his fist. In a rather bloody mess, they shook violently before finally exploding, leaving their entrails splattered across the ground.

(Before the above)

NiGHTS and Angelfire were starting to have a tough time. Each losing and gaining, they both wondered if a victor would ever be determined. Angelfire pulled out her special yasminkov shotgun.

"Better be fast for this one."

As nights, on the other side, leapt into the air, she fired the first shot.

NiGHTS did a front flip, narrowly avoiding the bullets, which hit and ricocheted off. He landed and immediately leapt for another front flip, and then another, each time the bullets hitting the wall directly behind him, crackling off pieces of the ancient ruin, and then bouncing off.

"No good.." She threw this one to the ground. It landed beside her guilty light and the previous yasminkov mechs. The mechs were half covered in dust, and the guilty light hat a small layer of dust on it.

She materialized her last weapon. The red glow of a saber shone as she charged NiGHTS, with her last weapon; the Red Saber. "Try dodging this one."

She swung at his side. He dodged it, but still got nicked near his ribcage. He answered back with a shot of foie.

They were both heavily hurt.

Angelfire got up, and then clutched her side, groaned and fell over.

NiGHTS was about to help her, when he remembered she was faking her defeat.

Reala smiled. "Your job is done, NiGHTS."

The hologram disappeared.

"Alright. Now give me Yuri and Fuji."

"Just a second. I want you to see this....."

Reala extended his right arm, pointing at Angelfire.

His finger rose slowly into the air, and so did Angelfire. Her chest jutted out, with her head and feet being pulled towards the floor.

"Watch this."

Reala clenched his hand.

Angelfire's scream filled the room.

She fell, limp back onto the ground.

"How did you like that, NiGHTS? Good enough for you?"

"You.....you......"

"Oh, come on now. Spit it out. You know what I did."

"...give.....me...Yuri....and Fuji..."

"Well, let's see..... I did promise you I would give them back if you killed Angelfire.....but, NiGHTS, you have to realize, it would look very, very bad on my reputation if I were to let the good guy go away...when I had him right within my grasp."

"Even evil can keep promises. "

"Too bad I'm not a man of my words."

"Reala...you.....you..."

"Hah! Call me master NiGHTS, for that is what I will be to you and everyone else in this world. I am Reala, master of reality. You are nothing but a pathetic dream, destined to fall, just like all dreams do."

Reala rose his hand.

Eighteen hooded warriors rose up, all equipped with a special Revelation Gun.

It was at that moment that Yuri was hit by the bullets.

Reala looked over, as did NiGHTS.

Reala, for once, frowned.

"I told you not to harm her! Pathetic Worms..." He looked at them, extended his right arm, and clenched his fist. In a rather bloody mess, they shook violently before finally exploding, leaving their entrails splattered across the ground.

NiGHTS looked at Yuri.

"Yuri!!"

Her head was out of his view, but he saw her legs up to her stomach. The photon bullets had ripped through her clothing, exposing bloody skin, and torn flesh. A small trick of blood ran out of it, flowing down her legs to her shoes, and then dripping onto the floor.

Seeing NiGHTS horror, Reala smiled.

"....I told them not to harm her.....hah...I wanted to do it myself."

NiGHTS horror turned to anger.

"Reala.. I... Told you....not to....you're going to pay for this, very dearly, Reala!"

"Hush now, NiGHTS, like I said, you aren't in a position to say any of that. Warriors of the Fallen Moon, arise!"

The eighteen cloaked figures tensed up, and aimed their weapons at NiGHTS.

Reala smirked.

"Just be sure you all aim for a different part. I want this to hurt NiGHTS so much he screams in pain."

NiGHTS looked around him.

There was no way he could get out of this. Not alive, anyway. He closed his eyes.

"Looks like this is the end of the line. I won't go back to Nightopia...not now...even if I do go Reala will take over this world...what do I do then?!"

"Warriors. Aim! And make it good. Anyone who misses will be killed by me personally."

Suddenly there was a noise as the ropes binding Yuri's feet were cut by Henry. The ropes flew, curling in many directions, before Henry grabbed them both and quickly tied them above him on his rope. Yuri stopped suddenly in her freefall, feet pointed towards the roof, head a few feet above the ground.

The blood reversed its course, now running up her chest to her neck and then spilling out over her face before finally resuming the constant drip, drip, drip, on the cold, hard floor.

One drip after another they all watched. Reala, NiGHTS, Henry, Kazoo, Fuji, and even the warriors.

But there was one who saw it that they didn't see. The one who had come to reclaim vengeance for his brother. It was now time to seal the covenant.

The drips became a small puddle. Yuri's eyes, squinted closed, and her quick, yet heavy breathing only added to the horror NiGHTS felt.

He turned to Reala again.

"Bastard..."

"Why, thank you, NiGHTS. I was personally enjoying this little masquerade, but now I'm afraid it's time for you to go. First shot will be by me."

Reala aimed his hand at NiGHTS. "Don't shoot men, watch and learn...learn how to break a person's arm from twenty feet away..."

Reala pointed, and suddenly NiGHTS felt a great pressure on his right arm. Reala moved his point upwards, and nights felt himself being lifted.

"Say goodbye to you arm, NiGHTS" Reala. prepared to clench his fist.

With blitzkrieg speed, a small blue chao flew out of its cage and slammed into Reala's hand, biting it off instantly.

Reala fell onto the ground and Fuji wiped the blood from his mouth. His slanted eyelids alerted the entire crowd that he was serious about killing this time. He threw the hand on the ground and stomped on it with his feet.

"You little...!!! Why you....! No matter, watch this..."

Reala stood up, and the blood from his hand stopped. An odd, black sphere engulfed the severed section of his arm. With a sickening slurp, it disappeared, revealing a new and just as horrid looking hand.

"Pretty good, eh NiGHTS? Bet you can't do that one..

Alright, chao. Go over by your master. I'll just kill the two of you together.

Now don't worry NiGHTS, I've got big plans for Yuri, if she survives. I'll make her my queen."

"What?! Queen? If you hadn't realized, Reala, the government here is a democracy."

"Not MY government NiGHTS. Ohhhh the pure torture I'm sure it will be to know that she will be mine..."


Fuji ran over to NiGHTS and hid behind his legs.

"Hey...little guy. Good to see that you're yourself again. Nice winking, by the way."

Fuji looked up, worried.

"You know what, Fuji. This is one of the first times I've been proud to have you standing behind me. All the other times I was ashamed...but Fuji.....I'm not ashamed of you any more. You stand on even ground with me from now on........

When I tell you to, I want you to latch onto my back. The bullets won't fully pierce me. That way you can stay alive."

A tear formed in Fuji's bubbly eyes.

"I know, its hard.....just......"

And one formed in NiGHTS eye as well.

"Just ......give 'em hell, ok?"

Fuji nodded, and got ready.

The warriors aimed.

"Give it your best shot, men.", Growled Reala.

"Fire on my command."

"One........"

Fuji tensed up. NiGHTS did too. "Get ready, Fuji.. when he says three get on my back."

"Two......"

Fuji stretched his arms, ready to jump.

"Thr---------"

A sudden scream filled the room. The half of the lights suddenly exploded, shattered pieces of glass raining down upon us. In the dim light, a shadow appeared on a far wall. Then, in a voice that boomed the room, we heard....


"WHICH FATE IS WORSE!?" A flying dagger stabbed itself into the chest of one of the hooded figures.

"GETTING KILLED OR LIVING, AND HAVING EVERY PERSON FORGET EVERY DAMN MEMORY ABOUT YOU!?"

Two more flying daggers, this time from the opposite side. Two more cloaked figures fell.

The shadow moved super-humanly fast, its image casting itself on the roof, on the walls....

"EITHER WAY, YOU 'DIE'!" A breeze blew by, and another warrior fell down, a saber shining brightly, stabbed into his abdomen.

"I AM THE WHISPER ON THE WIND!" Another breeze blew by as the three daggers were jolted out of their previous victims, and stabbed into the hearts of three others. Two others found their heads lying on the ground.

"I AM THE PUFF OF CLOUD IN THE SKY!" The third breeze blew by and two sabers repositioned themselves into the chests of two more cloaked figures. For two others, the last thing they heard was a loud 'SNAP', as their necks were broken.

"I AM THE SMALL WAVE---" Two heads flew off and two more SNAPS were heard-----

"--IN A HUGE OCEAN!" Finally the last remaining soldier fell, cut directly in half from the head down.

The shadow finally slowed down, flew around the room once more, and them did three front flips, landing, standing up, on its feet.

The shadow spoke again, this time in a soft voice.

"I am he that has been reborn. I am here for my vengeance."

Standing tall and proud was Jade, In aqua colored HUmar armor, matching his hair. in his hand he held a massive sword, and everyone in the room was in awe at his majestic aura. Like a holy beam, a bright light in the room shone down, illuminating him from the rest. He stood Tall, his face confident and determined. His stance was that of a noble prince, his eyes were that of a million stars. And his vengeance to come...was like the freedom of a million slaves.

Reala was shocked and frightened at the newfound hope for the others.

"You....you..."

Jade looked up slowly at him. "You are not the one. Do not speak." He raised his hand, palm forward at Reala, and stretched it. Reala disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Jade looked up at the roof.

"Come down. My Brother's soul seeks vengeance."

A section of the roof, camouflaged well enough to be hidden from the others, started lowering itself down nearer to the ground. After descending a good fifty feet a figure jumped out.

The figure smiled. He had long, blonde hair and blue eyes.

"Hello there, Jade. I'm Captain Kyosto."

"You are the one who killed my brother."

"That's correct. I was ordered to kill your brother. And I did."

"Then you are indeed he who I must destroy. Draw your blade."

The blonde haired figure, dressed in blue, drew a large sword out from the moving room. It had odd markings on it, and glowed a faint reddish-black.

Jade threw his large sword above him, watched it spin two times, then cupped his hand and the handle slid directly into it, the blade reaching up to his face.

"Whoa. That was pretty cool.", thought NiGHTS as he watched Jade close his eyes.

In a flash NiGHTS found himself in Nightopia.

NiGHTS found himself at Reala's Palace.

The sky was clouded and gray. He was inside a large, open area, with four massive pillars in each corner, marked by the large black and red horizontal stripes. In each corner was a floating flame, and in the middle, a large pillar. On it a chair, and in that chair...

"I'll get rid of you for good, this time."

"I don't think so, NiGHTS. You're in my part of the nightmare now. Let's see how you do with my toys.."

Reala snapped his fingers, and suddenly NiGHTS found himself in a dark place, with a fire in the middle. Keep in mind that in Nightopia nights is constantly flying in the air...

A high-pitched scream sent his vision to a flying dragon, with a massive, rounded head and a huge mouth with sharp teeth. It had a long tail with spikes lining it.

"Gillwing? It's been a while, big boy..."

NiGHTS did a spin and shot himself towards gillwing. A hundred feet up in the air, this was what NiGHTS was used to.

He outstretched his arms to either side, locked his legs straight behind him, smiled, and prepared for the fight.

With a flash Gillwing was destroyed. But not by NiGHTS. Gillwing was destroyed, along with all the other nightmaren by a pair of friends, a pair of soul mates, one boy and one girl, who had pledged long ago to keep the world of Nightopia safe. Elliot and Claris.

NiGHTS found himself back at Reala's palace. The flames turned blue as all light except from them went out.

Reala flew up off his chair.

"Now I'll destroy you, NiGHTS!!!!" With a yell Reala charged NiGHTS.

NiGHTS flew towards Reala, and the two grasped each other's shoulders, and rammed their heads together. Nights and Reala could see each other's face perfectly, while struggling to push harder than their opponent.

NiGHTS smiled.

"Reala, do you remember what you said to me?"

"Hm?"

"It was something like, "You are nothing but a pathetic dream, NiGHTS.""

"Indeed. You are! And as I said before, you are destined to fall, just like all dreams do."

"You're wrong, Reala. Dreams are not pathetic. True dreams are never pathetic. True dreams are the possibility of all the good that we can do. Dreams are the bright light of hope in a sea of critiquing pressure and slander.

Dreams do not fall, Reala. Dreams do not die. A dream lives on throughout eternity, until it is finally recognized. Then it becomes real. The change between dream and real, however, is not as great as it may seem. For as of right now, destroying you is a dream--"

NiGHTS surged forth his energy , punched Reala across the face, then sent him flying towards the sky with a kick.

He extended both his hands towards Reala, and clenched his fists. Reala was pierced by hundreds of arrows of light, before finally exploding in a wave of light and darkness.

"--but now it is real."

NiGHTS relaxed himself. His duty was done. It was time to go back to the other world, now.

Another flash found himself just where he had left off. Jade was in the same stance, and then Kyosto ran forward with the attack.

His eyes still closed, Jade successfully blocked each attack with his own sword, blocking one at his head, one at his side, then one at his feet.

The other man stood aghast. "Wh---what kind of person are you?!"

"I am the vengeance."

"w-well, I don't care who you are! I'll kill you!!!!!!!!!"

The blonde haired man charged at Jade, rose both hands above his head grasping the sword, then swung it down at jade. Jade shot up his own sword, hooked a photon niche (a rough spot on a photon blade) and flung the other sword flying across the room.

He opened his eyes. With a quick stab he ran the blonde man through with his sword, cutting through almost everything from his neck to his pelvis.

Then he spun around quickly and with his final swing beheaded the man who had killed his brother.

The head plopped onto the floor, feet away.

"It is done.....brother... The covenant is sealed. My fate is done. I have dealt justice."

Jade walked over to NiGHTS. He was much taller than NiGHTS, as NiGHTS quickly realized, and he placed a hand on NiGHTS' shoulder.

"I'm proud of you. You found your dream."

"I did. And I see you have avenged your brother."

"Yes...beryl's spirit is now in peace. Yet there is much I must still do, things to clear up from my tainted past, and things to do in the future."

"How did you block that guy's attacks? And how were you so fast when you first came in?"

"Don't tell me that after a couple weeks you have forgotten that I can read minds?! I read him like a book, before finally disposing of him properly. As for the beginning....let's just say that I have some special abilities that you might not have known I had. You have a few as well, I know."

"Yes..."

"Well, I see you went through with your plans on the girl. She is hurt badly, over there, but it is nothing that your homeland cannot save her from. Tend to her quickly NiGHTS, the love of a woman can run as quickly as a fleet of horses, and once you have lost it, it is near impossible to get it back. Now go and help her. I must be going. The next time we meet, you will have a child....."

"What?!"

"That's right. Oh, by the way, just because I know this in advance, take this--" He shuffled around in his pockets before producing a folded up piece of paper. He handed it to NiGHTS.

"Call me if you ever need pointers on some honeymoon plans..." at this he smiled.

"....but I must be going. I'll be awaiting your call. One last thing, NiGHTS.."

"Hm?"

"He leaned in close and whispered something in NiGHTS ear.

Confused, NiGHTS looked at him oddly.

"I what?"

"Just remember it. One day, when all other hope fails, yours will be the one that unites the rest. We will meet again on that day as well. If Ruby asks where I went, tell her I went in search of Kido and Ricosearcher.

Once again NiGHTS, I cannot thank you enough for what you have done.

Farewell, until we meet again."

"F-farewell..."

Jade turned, faced the wall, and was gone.

NiGHTS ran over to Yuri. She was breathing softly now, and the puddle had grown to be nearly the size of a small pond.

"She's lost too much blood..", thought NiGHTS as examined the puddle. Then he noticed Henry, who was still tied on above her; who had to remain tied on lest she fall head first onto the ground. NiGHTS put one arm Yuri's back and with the other cut the ropes that bound her feet. He then caught her feet, sliding his hand up to where her knees bent with that hand.

"Yuri. Let's go...."

In the midst of the bright light, two people and three chao found themselves in Nightopia.

NiGHTS held Yuri in the same position, standing on the crest of a hill. The soft sunlight poured down.

He set her down on the soft grass, used one hand to elevate her head, and placed the other on the hole that was her wound.

A faint light emitted, and she gritted her teeth, her eyes still squinted shut.

Then she relaxed. Opening her eyes, she found NiGHTS, smiling, above her. She stood up, and so did he.

Her wound was gone. the only evidence being that her clothing was torn, revealing her stomach and a bit of her lower breasts. But she didn't care.

She was with the one that she loved. She was with NiGHTS.

They hugged, and then kissed. A long, long kiss, one that in Nightopia seems to last forever, they both took part in, both happy and sad at the same time. As tears of joy rolled down their cheeks during the kiss, three small, blue chao sat under the shade of a tree about 6 feet away.

It was over. Yet the Dream had just Begun.

On an update note to the Sequel in the works....

The story will actually be broken down into two parts: NiGHTS and Yuri's adventures on the planet ragol, and Fuji, Henry and Kazoo's adventures trying to take care of a human child. NiGHTS and Yuri's story will be more serious, while you can expect fuji, henry and kazoo to be getting into alll sorts of trouble.

Its crazy trying to write five (six, now) separate fanfics and have them all tie into each other....heh.

Finally, I was PMed and told by quite a few people that had many questions about parts in the story, and you should. The most common things people wanted to learn more about were: Jade Malachite and WORKS.

Thus I have decided to write a fanfic--but only on one of the two. I will be adding a poll to see which you guys want to hear.

"In one corner, we have Jade Malachite, Psychic adept and skilled fighter, and in the blue corner, we have WORKS, a top secret military organization that has some very interesting plans up their sleeve.... So LETS GET READY TO RUMMMMBLE!!!!"

SPECIAL UPDATE: As a final conclusion to the story, NiGHTS, Fuji, and possibly Yuri and Henry will be meeting on PSO soon for a special contest to mark the end of the first part. The game? A special 'trivia' game about the entire fic. The answers will all be parts from/in the fic, like this one:

Ex: "In which chapter did NiGHTS first see Yuri?"

Questions ranging from that to this :

Ex: "What was the second weapon that Angelfire used when she fought NiGHTS?"

The date and time will be put up shortly, but we'll be giving away prizes to not only 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners in the quiz, but to anyone that comes to the event to show our appreciation.
