hi again, as the title says my question is: do I need any special weapon equipped because I just did the quest and it didn't complete even though I made sure to lock the room and have only Marlu (and I got S rank). thanks

Also you don't need to lock the room,

when it says 'only marlu' it meant marlu as the only NPC, other players will not stop the CO completing

if they enter a multiparty area and someone else in the multiparty area with an NPC, she'll fail the client order.

This is not true
The only times where the NPC matters is upon entering Area 1, and after mission completion, where they talk while removing your palette
The only way to ruin it is to go to camp ship and try to add an NPC before beating the boss
