Should I add any s-defense on my mag as Hunter?

It's about 80 Striking and 40 ability currently.

Was wondering if I should make like 25 s-def on it or if it will matter much.

Depends on how you play, if you want to be able to stand around attack and eat hits you'll need some points for the best armors.

If you play like me I penalize myself a lot for getting hit so I wear low defense armor to ensure I'm not standing around eating hits. So the defense stats mean literally nothing to me.

At the bare minimum, you should at least get enough S-Def to equip the best units. Doesn't take a whole lot (422 is the highest IIRC), and why gimp yourself if you can avoid it?

Personally, I'd put a little bit of S-Def on it so you can equip the better grade armor. Even if you're a good hunter, you're going to get hit occasionally. And it's nice to take a hit and not have to immediately pop a mate because you're already down halfway on your HP bar.

I put 10 S-def on my mag so i could equip the best unit and well more def never hurts lol

As many people have said, yes. The mag is more useful to equip better equipment than to add any stats to actual combat. I'd say around 50 is what you want, if you don't have any +defense skills.

You can have the best defense in the game and you're still going to need a parachute when the boss hits you, just like everybody else.

The only difference is you won't be popping monomates when you land like everybody else will.

Hmm ok I'll probably take Striking to 85, it's close and Ability to 45 thats...130 and put 20 into S-Def.

Sounds reasonable for now.

Damn that only gives me 400 S Defense if I raise it to 22 and that still isn't enough. Guess I'll have to wait until mags go to 200.

Whatever planning you do, it will all get wasted when new units come out.
