I feel like as of late, I've been getting very few bursts going, and what bursts I can get going are always brief and rarely worth the effort. As far as I can tell, the PSE level goes up when I kill a random enemy that releases a column of light on death, but at level 6 or 7, the columns of light corresponding to a particular boost stops showing up for whatever reason and that PSE expires.
