Ok. So i still cant start the game up. I'm not sure if i still must keep download files or let the blue bar reach the other end. I let then bar go for like a hour now. and the damn thing has not moved so if anyone can give me and explanation that would be great.

If you haven't downloaded the latest client, you're looking at around 4GB worth of data.

Don't worry though, everyone has to go through it at some point. Just let it finish downloading and do something else in the meantime.

It's just a really slow download. On the plus side closing it doesn't start the whole thing over (though it does have to do a file check.)

The last update was 4gigs+ (iirc) so it's going to take a lot more than one hour. I just left mine updating when I went to bed and it was done when I got up to go to work in the morning.

Did you get the installer before or after the update on the 12th?

Chances are you have to download a large amount of data still, as the old installer had a big patch (like 3-4GB) to get through first, and the update on the 12th was another 2GB+ (though I think the new installer they put out afterward should've negated that).

EDIT: Wow, triple-ninja'ed. What are the odds?

Interestingly, I used the updated PSO2 installer to test something, and that isn't a nice almost up to date package as you may expect.

I still had around 2.24GB of updates from that. Before anyone asks, yes, that was the installer they put up after 12th September, yes it is 7.7GB in size and yes it was obtained from the SEGA website.

Wow. I've been wrong before, but that's... rather disappointing, actually.

I tested that too and never got such update~

See? And I've got two english patches, the big one and the small one.
So... yeah, my client would be around 10GB if I had a 2.24 GB update....

Isn't that making the false assumption that all of the files were added and none replaced? From a vanilla install of PSO2, this is what is done. (This doesn't include the GG directory).

Totals before update
10,353 files, total size 8.01GB (8,602,293,537 bytes)

Totals after update
10,423 files, total size 8.29GB (8,906,368,325 bytes)

For pso2_bin:

The three launcher files are updated and backups of these are taken.
Pso2.exe, pso2jp.ini and gameguard.des are updated.
Launcher files update size 5.55MB (5,824,368 bytes)
Pso2 game update size 15.3MB (16,058,419 bytes)

For pso2_bin\data\win32:
66 files added
1,472 files replaced
Total size of added files, 254MB (266,379,228 bytes)
Total size of replaced files, 1.98GB (2,122,117,436 bytes)

Total update size
2.24GB (2,410,379,451 bytes)

So yes, with your PSO2 directory size >8.3GB shows that you were affected by the update.

How come I never updated the game? The only patch I had was on 9/18 and took less than 5 minutes, and my connection won't go faster than 314kb/s

No idea since I doubt you have mentioned everything involved here.

But remember, for whatever reason, just because it didn't happen for you doesn't mean that it won't happen for anyone else. Also, don't forget, there is another case that you were also involved in where someone used the new installer and it required a large update too.
