I just woke up today to see that the figure-company Volks (http://www.volks.co.jp/)(who's also behind the pre-painted Nagisa PVC (http://myfigurecollection.net/item/78813)) are going to release 2 new Phantasy Star Online figures.
One of the classic PSO2 HUnewearl (http://myfigurecollection.net/item/129884) and another one of the cheerful FOnewearl (http://myfigurecollection.net/item/129883).

These figures will be made of "Color Resin", meaning they will be made out of different material compared to the Nagisa figure. Resin feels more like porcelain/hard fabric (heavy and fragile), while PVC feels like a very light, high quality plastic.
Color Resin is pretty much like a "Resin-kit" (assemble and color it yourself). Only difference is that you don't need to color the parts yourself, as they now come pre-painted (example) (http://myfigurecollection.net/image/OhnoRaptors1301047404.jpeg).

As of today, there's no official release date for these figures. Sources say they will be exclusively sold though (probably through some kind of figure-event), so I'm guessing they will be pretty much unavailable for us living outside of Japan.
But, in case these exclusive figures turns out to become really popular, I believe a pre-painted PVC version is just around the corner. That said, let's just hope for the best! I strongly believe we will see loads of more PSO2 merchandise (http://slist.amiami.com/top/search/list?s_originaltitle=Phantasy+Star&pagemax=100) in the future.

I'll try and keep this thread updated as soon as I find out anything new about these figures.

I'd rather have a figure of the HUnewm, but he doesn't have boobs so it can't be helped, I guess.

Or a Rappy figure...

Looks like Ricardo added more info on figurines, and it appears to be a RAcaseal~

I really like the second one~ I can see how people can really get in to collecting these figurines. o.o They're very detailed and pretty.

I can see this being some WonFes exclusive kits.

Mmm, kits... Sounds nice. As long as it's not 1/6, that would kill for price. .-.

I'm sure there are quite of few people that do figurine commissions, its just a matter of doing some searching on the net. I mean, I've personally never seen them, but seeing how figurine collecting is so popular, the chances of people making customs is pretty high. c:

The second one is old actually. It was released in September last year as a kit you can paint and assemble, but none that are pre-assembled though. (except maybe through an auction site) Mine is still incomplete though. I'm probably going to try and find someone to complete it for me though - I have no space nor time to paint these kits anymore.

I don't think Meji is talking about the Chogokin imo. The Chogokin is being made/published by Bandai through their online store, while the one Meji is referring to seems to be from Volks. There's nothing on the Volks JP website yet, so it's probably just an announcement so far.

Volks resin cast stuff doesn't come cheap though.

The "second" one is actually the first one with a head swap, as in the Chogokin one comes with multiple heads...

"Switchable Head Shino" quoted from Ricardo's blog.

Just goes to show how well the Chogokin one might/will turn out.

It would probably be A LOT more expensive than a mass produced figure, though, unless the person specializes in making human-shaped figures.

@IndigoNovember: Looks like I didn't look at it carefully enough. :3 There's a picture of the fully painted APSY kit in a very similar pose actually.

@Alenoir: Most figurines on the market are usually mass-produced to some extent, and they aren't that cheap, so yeah. Expect a custom made figurine to be a few hundred to a thousand dollars.

^ yeah, 3d printers are all the rage now+^_^+ but there are those that use it to counterfeit products for resale (remembers reading something about bad pipes that when sent in for warranty all had same serial numbers), as well as more nefarious and dark things+^_^+

Was actually referring to a custom sculpted model (clay reference + resin mould). A 3D print would be much cheaper, though the quality will go down drastically. :3

I don't have a airbrush to bring out the true potential to the kits. As for the painted ones that actually look, GOOD, I shelled out 90$ (what was wrong with me lol) for a KOS-MOS III figure, so expect the price to be up there if not more expensive.

that depends entirely on the machine, the one used to reproduce that gun was from the '90s, the newer tech can work with metal and produce with plastics in full color (obviously not with air brushing detail, anything these machines spit out must be worked afterward to remove excess material) +^_^+ they already have simpler desktop kinds you can buy for the price of a really expensive laser printer+^_^+ and some of the better ones can reproduce enclosed bearings and other complicated and precise things+^_^+ (I'd love to see my Mary made into a 30 lb pose-able steel statue+^_^+)

I'll settle for a nicely airbrushed diorama of all my alts. :3

The last I saw, it still isn't possible to get the same quality that a sculpted/airbrushed statue through a 3D printer alone, at least not without some additional finishing like you mentioned, but I suppose an industrial strength printer could certainly come very close. That said, I'd be rather questioning of a company who buys such a powerful machine just to print figurines. :3 I'd still be impressed though.

I've seen the quality of one of those industrial printers before, though briefly. Colours are quite muted and simple and there was no shading of course. It was a model of a building as well, which is certainly simpler than a human sized statue. That was some time ago, so I hope the new ones are much better.

You could dabble in it using an open source printer like the Reprap. XD
