Imagine if PSO2 opened up the Arks City. That would be one magnificent lobby, wouldn't it? But what could they include in the lobby? As some have already complained about PvP even being able to balance in this game, there's always a better factor to play roles on the PvE potential PSO2 could accomplish.

This is all just an idea, but what if PSO2 had a survival game mode? The dome in the city (where you would normally fight Ragne) could host such a mode. Think of it like zombies from Call of Duty... wave after wave of monsters spawning, collecting points to add to your score as you progress through each wave level; gathering key items in exchange to cash them in for rewards inside the "Survival Mode" shop. You wouldn't be able to level up from this... but it would be more of a fun, competitive way to brawl out things on PSO2. That would be fun, would it not? Aside form the normal "grind-grind-grind" factors, I believe this could be a new and refreshing way to use the in-game combat with the PvE we already have in the game.

Excluding the "casino" and "gamble" play people wanted adjacent from "grinding", this could essentially be another form-factor of gameplay when it comes to getting away from that "grind-grind-grind" deal. What do you guys think of this idea?

I'm gonna have to say nope.

Even if you negated exp gains and drops, and even if the shop had items people actually wanted, enemy AI wouldn't be remotely challenging enough for continuous play. Challenging enemy synergy is one of the key factors that really makes a hoard mode type game as fun as it is. It gives a sense of a accomplishment when teamwork perseveres through devastating odds. As it is, it would be like an endless PSE with none of the benefits and an arbitrary wave barrier for the spawns. The time it would take to increase the AI ability of the enemies just doesn't seem like an investment Sega is interested in.

So, Horde Mode, but PSO2 style? I always thought that would be a fun idea, myself. But there would have to be ways to balance meseta, drops, EXP, etc.

@Big Olaf: It's a little unclear, but it seems like the idea was to drop the usual rewards (meseta, exp, maybe even drops) in favour of coupons to exchange for items at a special shop.

It sounds like what MPAs already provide for, but with much less benefit.

What you're basically saying is "Sega will probably be too lazy to implement a worthwhile feature like this".

I mean, I guess I can see where you're going with the enemy AI not being as challenging, but that could be improved upon, couldn't it? It's already been requested for this game to be HARDER ever since "Hard Mode" failed to surpass most veteran players. Not to mention PSO2 has been leaning towards the better direction of complimenting better AI for enemies; given example the new Rare bosses that appear, as yet with the Rare enemies. Your excuse stated above is a blight excuse, considering there is hope to improve enemy AI standards for something like this to happen (if).

Like CoD? No thanks.
No exp from it? Count me out.

Yeah fuck it more modes the better.
Point system instead of exp / drops, bonus for clear time, damage taken, mates and resta blocked.
Can't progress without clearing the room.
More sneaky spawns, traps, laser grids
Different routes for 1/2/3&4player games
Extreme ohtori castle psu style I guess.
Ranking system is already there.

Suppose this would be good because it encourages eliteism and something else to do for people stuck at cap.

Also broken battle mode, just implement it, don't worry about the balance, best will be best huehue
TTF get, casino get, better search function GET

Depends if this acts as an MP or SP quest/mode type.

Also whether or not PSE bursts would be possible.
If so, then the horde would be x4 :D :D

And this would actually make the interrupt rankings even more interesting: You can keep doing this "survival" as long as you want but the score won't register until you "Finish" it, meaning fail as it presumably is endless. The interesting twist here is that participating in the Interrupt rankings for survival would be a gamble: You can keep surviving as long as you want or can try, but if you do so for too long, your score wouldn't register.

I actually like the idea of a survival thing but I doubt the chances of Sega doing anything even remotely like it for reasons stated above. Iv'e always been a fan of survival game modes but this game could use some extra modes so long as its not the hover board racing from PSU...urg

Yup I like the idea too. Otherwise you could have it as an interupt ranking for a smaller amount of time and whoever can kill the most enemies wins the interupt ranking. Or you could make the items very worthwhile if you can make it extremly far in the survival. And if they start throwing bosses and different things at a party it would be hard. Also make it so you cant res maybe? Something like that would be interesting and I like it. There would need to be some tweaks worked out but to just say it doesn't work is....well....annoying. It has potential for sure.

I think they should make something like this, since I really love the idea:

Survival mode:

Imagine a mode where you stand in a Colosseum (or the Dome from Ragne City) and enemies spawn around you in waves.
There won't be a LV limit for this challenge, since the first wave of enemies will be LV1, escalating in level with every new wave. This way everyone can play it, and EXP will still be earned for everyone.
Every 5th (or so) wave, there will be a boss.
A reward will be given based on how many waves you've cleared.
This would also be a nice IR-challenge. The party fighting through the highest number of waves wins.

Playing something like this would be like having a constant PSE Burst though, so I doubt SEGA will make it. Would be fun though.

Basically gow3 horde mode, i'd like that.
I like the idea personally but I doubt Sega would consider it.

Right, because if it was implemented it would be exactly the way the OP imagined it would be.

I would say no. Like someone said earlier, the mobs aren't tough enough.

Maybe if it was an SPA/solo area where you fight multiple bosses simultaneously. It could start off with 2 rockbears and eventually scale up to banther twins + quartz dragon + vol dragon. Then after every 10 waves the enemy lvl will increase but the spawns will reset.

[Edit] And you get XP, but only from completing waves, not individual kills.

This way you can really "test your might" and have an ultimate sense of accomplishment.
