エベント中？

Earlier I joined a party in progress and while I was looking for the other members I came across one of them that just seemed to be standing there doing absolutely nothing. I also noticed that near their HP bars it was flashing エベント中。Now I know enough Japanese to know that it meant that they're in the middle of an event, but what event would that be? What were they doing at the time?

He/She was looking to an event board during a quest probably, these blue boards that appears randomly through the quests and shows scenes with NPCs

Ok if that's what it was, but I just thought it was odd that all 3 players were in that state, but I only saw one of them. I wonder if I was wrong in clearing the quest while they were doing whatever they were doing.
