PSO2 isn't the only game to do that, at least when it comes to MMOs. The Korean version of TERA, for instance, has nipples on all female models, and hell, even has outfits that purposely show nip-slips (especially on Castanics). In the international version, all that stuff was taken out and/or censored, though.

There's NO reason they should have nipples if this game is supposed to be Teen rated....

Then again I dunno how Japans system works and if something like that would be taken out for the US version. But otherwise... I can't be the only one that thinks that's kind of low. at least AFTER you add on all the outfits being some 30 year old japanese guy's pornstar fantasy wardrobe.

OR at least like shirai said I wouldn't expect it from SEGA, I mean we're all perverts here but... that kinda doesn't justify how immoral that sounds to me... It's like hackers finding prince peachXbowser hentai in a mario game.(Alright not as extreme, I know, shutthefuckup.) But yeah.

Yes, they have for whatever reason... and I'm seriously asking myself why?
Apart from the fact it's just wrong, it's not like there's actually a purpose to it...
You can't see them through clothes (at least not yet), anyways... Apparently, the only way to see them at all, is to get rid of the underwear in the character creator... so what's the point?

SociableTyrannosaur
Jan 1, 2013, 04:57 PM
Sega put their name on it. It means that by extension they support the content. And before you argue about it look at it this way:

They put their name on it knowing the content would be controversial but they wanted the money they knew the game would bring, so even if they weren't emphatic about it, they didn't have an issue with it either. It tells us that Sega is not a child oriented publisher/developer and is perfectly willing to use the sex angle to make their money.

Does that really even need to be explained?

Magus_84

If Sega are scumbags and nipples aren't a big deal, then why does Sega need to justify their inclusion?

The JP playerbase for which PSO 2 is the intended audience doesn't really seem to need or want justification for it. And judging by this being far more successful than they seem to have expected, an occasional view of nipple or nipple-like outline doesn't seem to be hurting their prospects any.

As Zyrusticae has mentioned, Japan has laws on displaying certain portions of the human anatomy in media. I don't think display of nipples or nipple-like-objects gets hit by those.

If anything, I'm far more offended by the statistical imbalance granted to female newmen to make them the most popular race/gender combination. There's no justification for that. <_<

SEGA is terrible and everyone does it may be... "why is it even a big deal" to some. But is me seeing this as a BAD thing in general wrong? Of course this just goes to a giant list of terrible things they've done with this game. But this is not only a new one to me, but a SLIGHTLY newer low.

I think our difference in opinion here is that I don't see this as "immoral".

But that's what opinions are for. I'm more arguing against people being surprised at this.

Now, if it somehow makes it to the US uncensored, then I'd be surprised. The US is far more prudish/"reserved"/"moral" in some instances than Japan. And then on the other hand, both Jersey Shore and Toddlers in Tiaras exist.

Though I'm also in the camp of being annoyed that the females have far better/more options for appearance than the males, and every male set that's been released for females has been a better version of it. But that's more just irritation than anything. They're pandering to their audience, and their audience likes fanservice.

It's both a combination of this and what's bugging you that irks me even more. It's like alright sex sells... But seems like they're going all out on it. In my opinion maybe going TOO far.

But I guess part of that is because it's exactly what the players want and like literally 70-90% of this game's population is of female characters. Which, I bet less than 30% of the player base in general is female. It started at 7X% but I bet it went up since then, since that was beta.

Which is why I expect a storm of people rushing in here to make me look like a straw man or sheep troll me at some point.

And where's our speedos and bulge sliders and like at least 12 more outfits that don't look like shit guys could gotten alongside all the girls. Not only do they get MORE outfits, but they all look better. I've been stuck with HUmar, Tuxedo, and insertwhateverunrememberable outfit for eons. Zyrusticae
Jan 1, 2013, 06:10 PM
Yeah okay this is silly.

Nipples are completely, perfectly natural and their inclusion is just a concession for anatomical correctness. If anything I more offended by the assertion that nipples are something that must never see the light of day for some arbitrary reason even though males get to trot out their nipples all day long (seriously, fuck double standards).

By the way there are some Western games that include nipples on female models even though you're never intended to see them (APB, Oblivion before they got patched out) and some that include them fully intending you to see them (Age of Conan, the Witcher series), so it's not a particularly Japanese thing or even a fanservice thing, it's just a thing and it's a thing that's going to be done when artists don't want their models to have Barbie-style nudity.

Now, as far as the sex divide when it comes to outfit goes, that's just something you'll have to deal with when the player base is as heavily slanted towards one sex as it is. They're here to make money and that means selling to the biggest slice of their customer base as much as possible. It's clearly working, too. Can't blame them for doing the only rational thing to do as a business that needs income.

I believe this thread has a serious psychological undertone about the average young children and how far the media exposes them to different parts of life at earlier and earlier ages. A thread about excess because what people like - things such as sex, food, etc., things that were once such a goal because they were more essential to survival have now become such a simple convenience that there has simply been continuous inflation in it's availability and our own evolutionary desires now work against us. People have simultaneously developed standards about when exactly children should be exposed to elements like this because for most of their lives it is going to be a fixation that they need to be able to understand and control. A young child may not understand the implications of anything of a sexual nature simply because they are not developed enough to think ahead in the future. This has been applied to different body parts over the years (ankles, wrists; now breasts and thighs, etc. closer to intimate zones in America and Japan, but some places have completely different concepts) and people have taken the reasoning out of the sheltering of children. The real ethical debate here is when children should be exposed to more realistic and addictive real-world topics, like sex, and it tends to scare most parents because without the understanding that may be required to be safe and happy, kids can seriously fuck up their lives.

We're on topic.
