No, PSO2 really isn't similar to PSU, or PSO. It's pretty much its own thing. I'd say RA/GU would be the closest thing to GM/FG from PSU.

...lol, RAGU.

PSO2 is a lot more of an action game this time around, and is way less of a stat battle then before. If you liked PSU for the combat, I'm sure you'll love this game to death.

If you were able to stomach playing GM on PSU, you'll love this game. The action and combat is completely different from both PSO and PSU. It's much quicker, and has a lot more to it. Not to mention, you won't be kicked from a party for being a certain race/class combination.

In addition to what everyone above mentioned, you should know that the weapons themselves are different. You no longer have the rifles that fire one shot at a time, instead you have 3(?) shot burst assault rifles, just as twin handguns are gone and replaced(or changed back to) twin machine guns. And now even guns have their own PAs, so combat is a bit different for Rangers and Gunners than in PSU.

think of it as pso dated psu for awhile and all of a sudden they made a baby and called it pso 2 which has grown and started show himself in Japan and will soon travel here? North America

pso + psu = pso 2

ps: blue burst is kinda jealous about pso dating psu

PSO+PSU=Not PSO2.

That's all there is.

Well, it replaced a terrible crafting/grinding system with a crappy grinding/affixing system where the only positive thing is that you can't destroy your item now.

They all have the same core gameplay

>Meet in the lobby

>Pick missions

>Spam said missions

>TRY to get rares

>Upgrade said rares

It breaks off into its own game when you find that the action is enhanced and faster paced compared to even the portable games, probably the best in the series next to infinity. And the character customization is the best by far. It's a fun game casually and to mess around with friends. Both those and my friends are what keep me interested.

But long term as a PS fan. You'll soon learned that this game has the biggest potential ever and it's always COMPLETELY ignored. Finding this game to be a shallow dress up game with a lot of self explanatory flaws that come with F2P games in general. So try and keep it simple or you will suffer/eventually get bored.

This game, like Rock said, has the biggest potential ever. Too bad Sega just won't fix stupid flaws that can be repaired with ease.

This game reminds me of the saying "your mileage may vary".

I personally loved PSU and I didn't want the servers to go down prematurely like they did. I really do feel that this may end up being the better of the two games, even though I'm not 100% on board with Sega's free to play model.

From what I've seen you'll love the Ranger and Gunner classes in this game. Way better than the old Gunmaster and Fortegunner classes in PSU.

I agree, I would rather just pay a monthly sub fee.

Enjoy running through circles for hours killing bosses & fodder with 12 people or less? This is your game.

Enjoy pathetic difficulty? This is your game.

Enjoy gambling with a less than 50% chance of success? This is your game.

Enjoy having your weapons becoming weaker every 2-3 months? This is your game.

Enjoy having to run the same boring time attacks every day to make any money at all without a shop? This is your game.

Enjoy complaining on forums how rares you want never drop? This is your game.

Anyway, I found PSU to be the worst first day release buy I ever made in my life and I enjoy this game. That should say enough on how decent it is compared to psu despite all the money grab tactics.

I would pay a subscription fee if it would actually keep the game alive.

Sadly, it won't. Not when everything else in the market is F2P.

PSO2 borrows elements from PSU.

I like the changes. The game looks sweet! Dunno about the gameplay but it looks like they kept the pa from psu in this game.

I am a little confused about the skill tree build though.

I agree, I would rather just pay a monthly sub fee.

Here's the thing about about the free to play model that a lot people aren't acknowledging though...

Even though some of us are willing to pay a monthly subscription fee to keep the game going, your average Phantasy Star player will get tired of the monthly fees and eventually quit. If you quit, you're likely to be gone indefinitely, if not for good.

When this took place on the PSU 360 and PS2/PC servers it dwindled the US population down to almost nothing, which turned off even some of the most hardcore players. Eventually Sega who doesn't care about supporting their product or pleasing the fan-base shut down the servers.

At least now with the "free to play model", it both encourages people to stay within the community, at a minimum return after a large update, and also brings in people too cheap to pay retail prices for the game and monthly fee.

My biggest problem with the new model is they want to nickel and dime you to death. I don't agree with having to pay to fix mistakes that affect game (Mag, Skill Tree), paying for a monthly fee for a room (at most should be a one time fee), or having to gamble for cosmetic items.

I wish they would have the premium service, but also get some of their income from advertising revenue like Anarchy Online. A game which has been running for almost 12 years and free for over 8.

Personally, I've already bought Arks Cash on the JP servers and I'll be doing the same on the English servers, but I just won't make a habit of it.

PSU imo didn't get worth playing until the expansion game out.

Anyways. on topic the game borrows elements from the original, zero, Universe. and portable with enough original ideas on it's own for it to be hard to be lumped into a like this phantasy star game but better/worse. The game has it's flaws for sure, however I feel those flaws are bit too over glorified on these forums.

Also, again, in my opinion Sega given a pretty fair shake in free to play game model. Everything an ac player can get can be gotten if your willing to throw enough in game money at the problem. However I do think trading needs to be free, it's no where near as convenient as the shop and trading is well.. Useless in this economy. There's nothing tradable that is worth more then the average player can earn since they don't allow 10*+ to be traded. In addition to weapons becoming locked if equipped above 7*.

Trading is a dead art in this game. Thank goodness too cause I hate to see those *cough*FUCKERS!*Cough* from Universe come back and spam in the lobbies hopping one day that will actually get them a customer...

However the trading option in this game would be viable since it's just a less convenient form of the shop for the free playing people.

It does also bring in lobby spammers and porn salesmen. At least it's prevalent in Lion's Arch on Guild Wars 2

Okay, you probably got enough answers as it is, but I felt inclined to point out how the amount of negativity on these forums is starting to get saddening(actually, it has been for quite a while now, I'm thinking of another word), so I might as well give my opinion too.

This game is pretty different from PSU, or any other Phantasy Star game to date BUT, if you're looking for something new that's similar to PSU, well then that's still pretty much your best bet imo.

From my understanding, they are too busy hating each other to hate the game. Or so they were when I left.

Hey, maybe we should do just that.

Hey, maybe we should do just that.

I think we did plenty of that already on the 1st PSO, especially since you could say whatever with no repercussions or fear of being banned.

I always wanted to get on there, but only if find I could find a decent group to grind with. I've always admired Blizzard's dedication to their fan base, even it is just business.

The only things I don't care for on WoW is the fantasy setting and the really fugly character models.

Since I recently complained about negativity, it's probably not that good of an idea for me to talk about Blizzard any longer. I will just say that I had a lot of respect for them, but most of it was lost after playing Wow, and more recently Diablo III(to give credit where it's due, I did like Starcraft II). Funny thing is, their dedication to their fan base might very well be one of the reason for this, because that's something I feel they don't have anymore.

Don't misunderstand, Wow is a pretty excellent game. Or rather, was, because it's getting old, in every way. Still is mostly solid though.

I'll stop being off-topic now.

because that's something I feel they don't have anymore.

You can pinpoint the time of this happening to the very day that they were bought out by Activision.
