View Full Version : PSO2 How did you come up with your character(s)?

Just wondering what people had in mind when creating their characters and what they thought of the finished look.

As an example and to start, my characters Grey, Tesseract and Lorelie.

For Grey, I kind of built him to look like myself, mostly due to lack of imagination due to the sheer amount of what you could do to detail.
[spoiler-box]http://www.pso-world.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=2361&pictureid=31179[/img][/spoiler-box]

Tesseract kind of fell in from a PSP2 character:
[spoiler-box]http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee149/13lace/pic_0035.jpg[/img][/spoiler-box]
I also had a scrapped extra mode character in PSU named Tesseract, but instead of the red color scheme it was blue and had a face mask styled face. This is the final result:[spoiler-box]http://www.pso-world.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=2361&pictureid=33170[/spoiler-box]

Lorelie was something of a mistake. Rather, I was going to attempt to copy my Newman from PSP2/i to PSO2, but since this is PSO and a new setting I figured I would start from scratch and the end result was this:
[spoiler-box]http://www.pso-world.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=2361&pictureid=33171[/spoiler-box]
I also screwed up the name, but my excuse was that it was around 4am when I decided it was good enough and that I couldn't give a damn after that.

Try to keep it on where or what gave you your idea on why your character look the way they do and no back stories please, there's already a thread for that.

Not really... I only play HUmars because everyone else is a loli girl or mech and I like to be different. Unfortunately the costumes suck for HUmars. Why couldnt they just have mixable tops and bottoms like the casts ugh

I made Sophos (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g249/DoubleD_2255/FaceClaims/pso20120414_003022_005.jpg) completely by accident and I liked him so much I just stuck with him. He changed (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g249/DoubleD_2255/sophosstare.png) over time into the Newman he is today.

I didn't really have many things in mind when I made my HUnewearl, I wanted it loosely based off my original Psogc char (only pic i have) (http://imageshack.us/a/img185/415/imag0053ca3.jpg) and I wanted to avoid the loli status Female newmans apparently have in this outing of pso and as such my char is pretty tail, but then it looked better taller rather then shorter anyway :3.
I also added something from my Favourite tales series boss, nebilim from Tales of the abyss - the white eyebrows and the black face paint under the eye where inspired by her boss model, in addition I coloured the eyes red as a reference to her mad destructive spree before she was sealed then defeated by the party ingame.

All in all, I was pretty happy with how my char turned out, imo the nose is a little too small but then everything was in moonrunes when I made her and so I wasn't too sure what options I was messing with xD

Ce'Nedra
Jan 17, 2013, 06:13 AM
Mine is slightly based on the PSOGC version but then better =w= Officially Ce'Nedra comes from a fantasy book and I just loved the character so I adpoted the name and part of her character as well. That's the main reason why Nedra is always as short as possible, because her body is that of a child while her age can go up to 500 and older really. I also made her hair more Orange then the flame-red as described in the books, I kept the green eyes though and since she has a child like body her chest isn't that big and I used the loli face as well. I'm still quite happy with how Ce'Nedra looks...these twin tails are really a killer...I got a weak to twin tails :3

Will post Lyaela and Fyuria later :3

My character inspiration comes from lots of places.

This one, kinda loosely a mix of KOS-MOS and Akame from Akame ga Kiru

My current character inspiration is probably one of my lesser-inspired characters from recent memory. Mostly because I usually come in officially with a character with a large novel-like story background. Alas, that was so far left with the Universe series, ending with the PSP2 games.

Given that I lost both the Guntecher and the beast race in PSO2, I pretty much scrapped the idea of reviving the Six Square Circus universe at the start. It was also due to the lack of outfits at the start of the game as well. Just didn't have anything to represent Tynselle or Mufonna properly.

Anyway, the PS Universe series was still with my hiatus from playing a Force main since I played Force (FOnewm) to death in the original PSO v1 and v2. It wasn't until PSZ when I decided to get back into Force, this time as a FOmar. I always considered the FOmar/FOmarl the *Diva* classes of the game. The beautiful people, which may have a bit of a thing about their own appearance. Perhaps to a social fault. However, in PSZ, I wasn't really able to play that role since they redesigned their look in that game. So my character in PSZ had a personality that was kind, very gentlemanly, and yet had an incredible thirst for Puzzles. They even had top-hats to go with their canes, so to speak. A twist on Professor Layton, except my PSZ character wasn't quite as laid back and exercised a lot of physical combat to make up for his lack of Technic stamina.

Which leads me to this character. I have not fleshed out a major backstory for this one, as I wasn't convinced I would put too much effort into my Japanese server character. On the other hand, I finally got to play him with a personality of my original "Let's try FOmar this time" idea.

Anyway, the character below, as with my previous characters (Save Stints in appearance-only, or Wicksomnae which was in my own personal image), is not based off of an existing character or look at all. I basically wanted to design a very attractive male who starts off wearing the pretty FOmar clothing. In a previous male pageant contest, the main judge mentioned he could almost seem female at a distance; which goes right along with the PSO FOmar artwork appearance. They were originally imagined like Earth's well-pampered Royalty and well-off nobles attending courts of the past. Same thing. Except this is a modernized version of the same without makeup or hiding his well-featured facial hair.

His attitude about his appearance is akin to the 430 PM model in PSU/PSP. He's a little full of himself about his appearance. A male Rarity. (Yes, that is a double meaning)

"These Rappies may be adorable. But not as adorable as I am."

There are other aspects about his character, as he's a pretty normal guy otherwise. I'm just pointing out his idiosyncrasies. Also, the length of hair choice alone was influenced by a pretty male Samurai Shodown character. "Kazama Sogetsu". However, the hair style isn't quite the same and Sogetsu's actual hair length can't be recreated in this game. Sogetsu's hair actually comes down to his ankles. Literally.

BIG OLAF
Jan 17, 2013, 07:26 AM
Well, Nassandra was a female Beast I created in PSU, originally. Since then, I've recreated her in quite a few games, and PSO2 (obviously). I was always against playing female characters. I thought it was weird and creepy (all of my friends had at least one or two females, and all I had was a male CAST....who I'll also recreate in PSO2 someday).

But, one day, I broke down and decided to try it out. I made a female CAST. It was fine, but I soon got jealous of all the fleshie character's clothing options. So, I promptly deleted my CAST and went to make a Beast, seeing as they're the cutest females in PSU. I didn't know anything about making a female character, so I haphazardly just threw proportions and all that together and finished. I was stuck on a hair color/style, so I dug deep into my memory to think about what I considered 'attractive'. I was brought back to the major crush I had on Sailor Mercury as a child, when I would come home from school and watch Sailor Moon, so I imitated her hairstyle the best PSU would allow, and decided on a 'blue' theme.

upon exiting the character creator and playing with my friends for the first time with Nassie on PSU, they all exclaimed how large her breasts were, and simply wouldn't stop commenting on it. I swore I didn't do it on purpose, since I randomly moved the proportion slider around, but thus the legend began...

When it comes to 'biography', she was the daughter of another of my characters (male Beast), and remains his daughter in the PSO2 universe, with the exception that they're now both Humans, of course.

I figured it would be fun to show some PSU/PSO2 side-by-sides:

I originally re-created a character I wrote in PSO ep 1 & 2. And re-created the character from PSO Ep 1&2 in PSO2. He's evolved quite a bit however since then, and doesn't have the same lego-man awkward wobbling charm.

Well, basically I make video games using an Rpg Maker program. Essentially my current characters (I've only been playing PSO2 for like a weak so they haven't really changed much) are based off of my own character designs. Just gonna try and get them as close as possible in the future.

Gama
Jan 17, 2013, 09:17 AM
Well Gama is pretty old he comes from my first online char.

[SPOILER-BOX]https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/67734_1347797389762_6972034_n.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

later when psu came out i recreated Gama in blue, that lasted for a couple of months, then i got a fleshie head, and turned his body red using the lobas set. being the fleshie head blue skinned and blue hair.
[SPOILER-BOX]http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs18/i/2007/187/7/1/me_in_psu_lol_by_fullmindsoulofsorow.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

later on i turned Gama light skinned and with red hair.

[SPOILER-BOX]http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs27/i/2008/136/4/8/_D_by_fullmindsoulofsorow.jpg
[/SPOILER-BOX]
after months playing like this, i was a fightgunner , started feeling curious about being a force, and thus i created Gabriel

[SPOILER-BOX]http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs27/i/2008/166/b/7/eh_he_by_fullmindsoulofsorow.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

i played and i did like to be a force, altho i still felt the need to kick some ass.

later i migrated to the psu jp server.

and so, recreated Gama

[SPOILER-BOX]https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/216984_1558526937869_2957288_n.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

this time i was an acrofighter since i enjoyed the fastpaced combat, then i turned poor gama into a acrotecher, seeing it as a bad combination, i recreated gabriel aswell this time as a human acrotecher.
[SPOILER-BOX]https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/391359_1992148378134_1588100006_n.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

stayed like this had fun ,and ended up playing more as Gabriel who represents the person i am now, and not gama who represents the person i used to be.

this being said the transition from Gama to Gabriel happened as i changed myself.

[SPOILER-BOX]https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/38976_1272585669516_7408225_n.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

when pso2 came out i couldnt identify with Gama anymore, so altho i did create a gama

[SPOILER-BOX]https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/20404_3618288270615_22699973_n.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

i striped him from his original color leaving only a trace, making him resemble a ghost of what i was.

Gabriel was really hard to create for me. i didn't know who i was, or what would represent me properly.

and finaly reached something that i like

Ever since FFXI I played tall red hair characters. Originally I started off the same way with PSO2. I got mad at the fact that I was looking like everyone else. To the point even my friends mistaken others for me.

Therefor out of rebellion Pooky was born lol. I went super short. Contrasting colors. I liked her so much I made her my main character! Guess the tall red head with green eyes will be put on the shelf for some time.

Later I did end up making a newearl on the same account. I wanted a character to play without being in a set with my hubby. As well as I like the fleshy outfits. So Feydora came around. Just as tall as I am irl.

Teranu, meanwhile, is a recurring character of mine. She's basically the idealized version of myself (yes, yes, so very creative of me!) - or at least, ideal in my head. Not sure about anyone else's. She's always short, short-black-haired, well-muscled (if it's an option), slim, and possessing androgynous features.
These aren't all the games I've made her in, but they're the most notable:

Seravi Edalborez
Jan 17, 2013, 12:15 PM
I started using the name "Seravi" in Final Fantasy XIV. It's an attempt at a play on words with "c'est la vie". I used the name "Zeroblade" in FFXI but that's the result of a silly teenager's un-creativity (but spelling it backwards is totally revolutionary).

Insofar as one prior game is an indicator, Seravi is "plain, but different". Hair and eye color are brown, but she's one of the "slightly different from human/elf" races. Lalafell in XIV (little people race), female Cast here.

And gotta have a ponytail.

My two characters, Aura and Darkie Peanuts, have very different stories.

Aura is the name of a fictional character that I created many years ago for a fantasy story I came up with near the end of my institute years, and I continued developing over the years to this point. In that story, Aura, the main character, is bassically a girl who is sent to a parallel, steampunk-ish world where magic is possible. Since I created that story, I've been usng her name everytime I create a female character in any game, including PSU (where she was a beast Wartecher).

Darkie Peanuts had more "social" beginnings. When I started playing PSU, I met a group of players of my same nationality, and one of them had named his four characters after some Magic: The Gathering characters. One of them was a chubby robot named "Frankie Peanuts", after one of these cards too (this (http://magiccards.info/uh/en/13.html) if you're interested), and at some point some people in our group started making jokes about making an army of "Peanuts". So I made a copy of that character in black and called it "Darkie Peanuts" after that character and my own nick. Over time, I ended distancing my character from that one, adding some backstory related to my playtime in Spore, and making the character more unique. In PSU he was a Protranser, and now in PSO2 is a Ranger (possibly going Gunner/Ranger when I level him up enough).

I don't know.

Only the character name "Matt" has anything to do with anything, and I'm sure anyone could guess why.

Design-wise, I just threw the characters together to what I decided to look nice, and that's it. I spent like 10 minutes in the character creator and have no regrets.

Back when PSO v1 was out, people were spreading rumors that your character ran faster if you were really short and being the dumbass kid I was back then, I believed it. (PSO even to me back then was really slow) so I made a small character and at first I thought it was true but it really wasn't. I stick to that ever since. As for the color, well I don't know. I'm the type of guy that likes plain shit not over designed shit.

Ooooh, fun and interesting topic.

All of my characters aren't based on anything besides gravity, who was my character throughout pso1 dc through gc, xbox(and a very short disappointing time with the first month of psu release)and highly based off of my favorite blazblue character(the current gravity anyway), Terumi/Hazama the biggest troll I have ever seen. Although most of their names are in relation to the original pso which all tie in to a backstory I have going for them. Which is also why I have so many characters, call me crazy for making them 60% strictly for backstory purposes.

While I tried not to make him 100% the same as hazama you can clearly see the resemblence lol I tend like to give my characters a set personality, in gravitys case it would be overly calm and collected to the point you can't tell what he is actually thinking, and yea evil. Similar to hazamas, because yea I love that guys hilarious personality. Despite hardly using this character mostly due to laziness, is still my favorite of the bunch.

Then theres the female characters, which I almost always stick to strictly the same look and personality, that being a somewhat tall if possible, strong looking(skinny, short, muscleless girls using giant swords just looks silly to me) badass with an attitude. But I suppose they never have any origin of how they came to be aside from the backstories, the only similaries in any of them are just name references.

Guess the tall red head with green eyes will be put on the shelf for some time.
Well, more room for me then! Although it's true that at some point these were everywhere. Nowadays I hardly see any though(might be because I'm playing ALONE, but that's besides the point).

So anyway, yeah, uh, I love green. My basic design choice when I make a female character is long green hair, red eyes(since green goes so well with red). This time around I liked the hunewearl hairstyle a lot more than any other, and green hair didn't feel right with it since well, it's short. So I went with the opposite.
Other than that, I really made her naturally(doesn't mean it didn't take time, of course). I did end up making the eyes a little too big, also the eyebrows are too close from them and thus the skin around is slightly glitchy when enlighted. That's about it. She's not sexy, or cute, or even strikingly beautiful, so I guess that wasn't what I was aiming for. In any case, I still like her a lot.(no screenshot needed since she's in my sig)

Also Kylva is an original name. Just messed with letters and sounds and ended up with this yeaaaars ago. I use it for my main female characters, preferably if you can be a wind mage in game. Amusingly, while it's possible in PSO 2, I never had any plan to play her as a force, and still don't. Hunter's too much fun.

If I ever am to make an alt, it will be a Racaseal named Flow, in honor of my very first main character(that got beyond level 30 anyway) back in PSOv2 on the Dreamcast. I already made a basic design for her back in beta, which may or may not be the one I end up using(especially with all the new stuff we got since):[SPOILER-BOX]http://i.imgur.com/EZkMN.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]
Simply put, I'm trying to go for the PSO caseal look(read human figure but obviously a robot) as much as possible. It's pretty hard in this game though.

Flow is short for flower; I didn't know it was an english word by itself at the time(coincidence really). Also, the fact that later, the final boss of episode two of PSO 1&2 was named Olga Flow and his weapon the Dark Flow is (also)purely coincidental; having my most advanced yet character's name labelled to something so important felt pretty cool at the time, though.

Also I write too much.

Kasera has existed since a story I wrote when I was an annoying teenager and luckily, most of her physical features transitioned easily over into the world of PSO/PSU/PSP/PSZ/PSO2/Whatever. Like others, she's an idealized version of myself. Taller, stronger, and more capable at things I either am not good at or physically can not accomplish. Not sure where all the green came from though, because my favorite colors are actually purple and black, but I dudded her up in all green and it just seemed to work.

When I got PSU on the PS2 I didn't really play Extra Mode, so I just recreated Anduril after I beat the story but didn't play much as him.

Then I bought PSU for the 360 and finally got online. My first character was a recreation of Anduril but renamed to Sven, deleted after 5 minutes, and recreated as Noland. Then for legacy's sake I decided to recreate Arwen as well; I picked the name Kayla because I thought it was a nice name, no real deeper meaning than that, and after a few weeks I found that Kayla had overshadowed Noland as my main.
[spoiler-box]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/AndurilCh/KaylaPreAoI_zpsaa1d1af2.jpg[/spoiler-box]
Kayla started out as a Force, then Fortetecher, but I felt like I wasn't really having much fun as that class so around the release of AotI, I slowly transitioned to Guntecher, Fortegunner, and finally by the end of PSU she was a Gunmaster.
[spoiler-box]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/AndurilCh/anduril-kayla.jpg(picture is from my brief tenure on PSU PC, but she looked exactly like this by the time the 360 servers shut down)
[/spoiler-box]

I also created her as a FOnewearl in PSZ, mostly using Slicers. Long blue hair and green outfit.

When I started playing PSO2 I decided to just go straight for Ranger with Kayla.

Terra: Wanted a name to represent a defense-based character (she was my 2nd HUnewearl in PSOGC). Ended up with Terra, as in 'earth'. Hadn't played Final Fantasy 6 prior to this, unfortunately.

Ari: Short for Arienal. I had a FOnewearl on PSOGC called IyanaArienal (wanted Iyanna Arienal, but couldn't fit the name). The name itself comes from Warhammer 40,000; she's an Eldar Spiritseer (nicknamed 'The Angel of Iyanden') for anyone interested. Playable character in one of the old Eldar Codex books, but sadly no longer. The character isn't a representation of her though, I just clicked with the name.

Minerva: Was sick of using my usual Caseal name (Neith). I wanted a name that sounded good and ideally one that not many people would pick. Immediately saw another Minerva after creation :disapprove:

Teika: Name is made up from 'Terra' and 'Rika' (always liked the design of Fal/Rika) Te+Ika = Teika.

Essentially for my character... when I first started the PSU demo I had to make one clearly. All of my other friends playing were a male cast aside from one male human/beast (can't remember which). They told me we needed a chick in the group so after one joke character that looked retarded (giant human female), I made a green haired female newman because why the hell not. I made the name "Neobackpack" because it was a play on a friend's gamertag and it pissed him off. : P

And that sort of stuck for some reason. I dunno.

Tingle had been my character since PSO1. I enjoyed an idea of a more bumbling taller adult child thing for this current running of ms.gle.

I often joke about how Tingle is a walking female identification of myself considering her body type being super thin, and stretched out tall. Plus being almost useless by herself doesn't hurt either.

I like the idea of a tough female persona. The looks focus on functionality and comfort, which gives her a sense of independence and reliability. I guess one way to look at it would be if I were female this is who I'd want to be.

My PSO2 character, Lachesis, is a continuation of one of my original PSO characters. After capping my first character, a HUmar, in version one, I decided to make a new character. I did some reading online and it seemed like RAcaseals were one of the rarer character types in the English version so I decided to make one. I got the one in to the 90s but lost her to a glitch. The second RAcaseal I made was Lachesis. In PSO she was gold colored with the bow head (head 4 + body color 3 (http://www.rokugatsukan.com/pso/pso-allcostume/ver2/allcolor/racaseal/index.html) I think). She used shots.

In PSU and beyond, she became my first character. Her hair became blue and she started wearing glasses. I'm not sure why though. I started her out in PSU as a hunter but eventually she moved back to being a ranger. I don't have a back story or anything like that for her but this is the character I've probably spent the most time using in the post-Online Phantasy Star games.

Ezodagrom
Jan 18, 2013, 01:47 AM
Hmm, where to start...

I guess I'll start with Ezodagrom first.
[spoiler-box]In PSU he was the 3rd character I made, I had a Newman and a Cast, so I made him a Beast since I wanted a character that could use nanoblasts.

Pictures of how he looked early on and by the end of PSU:
[spoiler-box]http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Random/EzodagromPSU.jpg

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Ezodagrom/Ezodagrom.jpg[/spoiler-box]

When the PSPo2/PSPo2i areas were announced for PSU JP, I wanted to make a new Ezo there, either human or newman, I wanted him to have a more normal/generic look, with brown eyes and hair, but in the end I couldn't make him look right.

In the PSO2 Alpha 2 test I tried to make him how I wanted to in PSU JP, but since there were only short periods of time to play, it was a rushed creation. When the character creator was released I was able to further refine his look and the result was pretty much how Ezo looks now.

Pictures from the Alpha 2 Ezo and the current Ezo:

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Random/EzodagromPSO2.jpg[/spoiler-box]

About the name Ezodagrom (which is also my username here and in a bunch of other forums)... I pretty much wanted an unique name to use in forums and online games, but since I'm not really creative when it comes to names, I tried playing around with the order of my real name.
Basically Ezodagrom is my nickname (Zé) and last name (Morgado) backwards. Zé -> Ez, Morgado -> Odagrom, Ezodagrom.[/spoiler-box]

Blune, a character that I first made in PSO.
[spoiler-box]Blune pretty much as always been a blue ranger cast, hence the name "Blune". xD
The simple name and her being a robot allowed me to just add something like v1, v2, v3, v4, or some other random number at the end just so I could have the section ID that I wanted back in PSO. Since PSU and PSO2 don't have such a system, I don't have a need for "version number" at the end, so I just keep it "Blune" now.

Blune in PSO:

And now Johana. :3
[spoiler-box]The Johana I have in PSO2 is quite a bit different than the Johana I had in PSU, the PSO2 Johana is kinda based in 3 characters, she kinda has the body of PSU EN Johana (just a little bit shorter, I guess), tried to make her have a cheerful face (based on the character Luppi I had in PSU), and the brown hair and eyes of PSU JP Johana (the colour of hair and eyes are also based on my little sister).

And now for pictures...

Agreian's original design was inspired by a character I made in a previous MMO that's not related to Phantasy Star. (Although my previous character wore a monocle... glasses will do for now..) That, mixed with ability to customize the character freely without being limited to pre-set faces and all same race/job class body structure made me eventually bring out what I envisioned my character to appear as I wanted him to. And to even be able to choose the voice and adjust the pitch, I seriously love this game's character creation feature.

Zerius. I've always wanted to make a ranger character but I was stuck with 3 designs to choose from. Human female, female cast, and male cast. But I see a lot of female cast but not a lot of male cast without their helmet on. So that's what prompted me to create him. I'm also fascinated with the aspect of being able to mix different cast parts, an interesting shift from the usual one-piece costume.

Laxedrane
Jan 18, 2013, 05:52 AM
Laxedrane was the name I came up with for my XI character. It became my preferred online alias name and I always use it now when making a character that represents me. In psu he was more tan then I actually am becuase I wanted to be more tan back then. In this version everything but the hair pretty close to how I look, huge thighs and all. Just wish I could of made his ass bigger but big asses on men don't exist in the video game world. His hair is turquoise like my original character on pso and it's style is based on my whims. However it was a longer version of my hair style in real life for awhile.

Oh and the name Laxedrane is just my first name scrambled. I thought it sounded old school British and I liked it.

Wish I had some awesome back story like everyone else but I don't. At first I just started basing characters off what I wanted to look like if I was the Hero, when I started playing online though I made the user name fatelinka and always stuck with it in case a friend from another game happens to spot me. After the years though I notice that I have begun to make them like a combination of the Heroes their name is based off of.

Funny how the OP has a character named Lorelie. It will make this post a bit weird.

My character, Lorilae is based mostly on my PSZ character of the same name. I had figured it would be a good way to imagine my FOnewearl all grown-up since PSZ, and I wanted to design her with an anime-inspired bishoujo/onee-san look. I tried my best not to base her off any character in a given anime, and while that may have resulted in something generic, I am very happy with how she turned out.

Her name? Well, it came from Final Fantasy Tactics A2. My first Gria recruit had that name, and she ended up becoming one of my best units in my first playthrough of that game. The name just stuck. I gave my FOnewearl that name when I started playing PSZ, and it has stuck with me ever since. If I play a game and I can name one female character in my party, her name will be Lorilae.

If there was a name change ticket, I would be all over it. Since I already put forth more effort than I thought into it, I'm not going to bother with recreating and renaming her.

And a bit of a funny story, in PSP/2/i I mained a female newman named Mikella, after a Viera Red Mage I had in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, but decided to not bother with her.

Crystal_Shard
Jan 18, 2013, 09:36 AM
Hmm, an interesting thread. Crystal and Shard are obviously derived from my nickname, but the path to my current naming scheme was kinda convoluted...

PSO V1

Baby steps, baby steps... Crystal first debuted on the Dreamcast as Natasha, based on an - *drumroll* - original character! Black hair, one of the black foney outfits, and purple eyes, she's a far cry from what Crystal looks like now. I ended up soloing her completely all the way, getting stuck in Caves because I could never outlast De Rol Le. Thus started my age-old dislike of any volcanic cave-like area. :3 She never received a backstory sadly, and disappeared when my PSO GD died along with my VMUs.

PSO GC

Crystal's second incarnation was also named Natasha, with the same outfit from V1, but this also marked the debut of Shard (as Raywin), Aeline(as Deis Mk I), and to a lesser extent, Celise and Varanz (as a humanoid Garanz platform). This incarnation got a basic backstory, mostly in response to a fellow (former) PSOWorlder named Kupi, who requested to add Crystal into his fic.

In quick summary, Natasha was styled with a Rupika-esque backstory. An experimental test subject cloned from the genes of an exceptionally powerful Force, who escaped from a lab into the forest and was found badly injured by Raywin, who ended up taking her under his wing. The pair would eventually form a close knit team along with two more members, and be pitted against the team of the aforementioned Force in some kind of rivalry.

PSU PS2/PC

Unfortunately, I never had a powerful enough PC to play PSU during its heyday, and while I did play through the story mode of the PS2 Episode 1, I never went beyond that. Sega's dropping of the PSO GC 1 day tickets also played a part in my decision, as I was never in a position to play online for any period of time. I was pretty much absent from this forum during this period as well - you could consider it a PS Dark Age for me if you will. :3

Which now brings me to the first Portable PSP game...

PSPo1

The first debut of the modern Crystal, Shard and Aeline! While they didn't start with a backstory at first - I just wanted a proper iconic name once and for all and my nickname seemed the most obvious - I ended up adding one during Portable 2 and Infinity and retconned everything all the way back to the first game.

Shard's technically the star of this game, as he's actually the Hunter (in my timeline) who takes Vivienne under his wing, trains her, overcomes the crisis with Helga, and is eventually tossed out of the Guardians. Crystal is an attendant of the Holy Maiden who ends up getting dragged into Shard's adventure, and grows close enough to him that she ends up leaving the service of the Communion to follow him at the end of the game. Aeline (Deis Mk II at this stage) is simply a good friend of Shard's who assists him through much of the story.

PSPo2 - Vanilla and Infinity

For a somewhat fleshed out backstory, you can take a look at these two links I prepared previously...
http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2589637&postcount=595
http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2618870&postcount=534

... but basically, this is Crystal's big debut as the star of her backstory. :3 Following on the first Portable series, Crystal and Shard start travelling throughout Gurhal as a mercenary team known as the "Crystal Shard", and get tangled up with Emilia and Little Wing when Crystal gets trapped together with Emilia in the starting Ruins. They travel together, meeting Celise (from a rival mercenary group) and team up again with Aeline (now Deis Mk III) throughout the course of the game.

In Infinity, Shard's sister Nacalia joins the team as the resident dewman ( and also to enjoy Clad-6's facilities on Shard's paycheck), along with Varanz, a KFC obsessed Cast.

PSO 2

Crystal and Shard both finally get proper names (Els Silan and Shann Andayn), both of which are derived from original weapon names that were in turn inspired by the original Elsydeon from PSIV. There's also a little added inspiration for Els' name from the name of one of the soundtracks from PSIV titled "Fals", which is the theme song for Rika (called Fal in the Japanese version) if I recall correct.

While the story for this lineup is still being developed, the basic backstory has Els' sister Kasia, an elite Arks member, disappear during a covert mission to a backwater planet (Naverius of course :3 ) and providing Els with the impetus to join the Arks to search for her. She gets to know both Shann and Celise between her Academy training and her first, fateful shakedown tour on Naverius.

Anyway, there's still lots of details to work out, including how to fit in the rest of the NPCs, and also how to fit in some members of my current team, Celestial, while keeping the whole "Team Crystal Shard" part of my story more or less intact. :3

Aquayoshi
Jan 18, 2013, 10:36 PM
For Luna, it's kind of a long, winding story. Originally, when I first started playing PSOBB, I made a HUmar named Aqua, intending for him to be my main. As I learned the ropes of the game, I decided to roll a couple more characters to see what each class was like. I made a certain short, white RAcaseal, thoughtlessly and uncreatively naming her LunaSPD V2 (*cringe*). Obviously I just took a common online name and threw some meaningless "acronyms" on the end to make it look vaguely Cast-like...

Luna grew on me, though, and she soon became my true main as I found myself wanting to use guns more than anything else.
Our long journey through the Phantasy Star Series had begun.

The next game I journeyed through with Luna was Phantasy Star Portable, which was where I decided on many aspects of her current look: white skin, sleek, form-fitting, primarily white armor, sharp, backward-tilted winglike antennae for ears, long, human-like hair, and a cute but somewhat troubled face. Some aspects have since changed, though: her original color scheme was pure white with no other colors. She was still simply named 'Luna', and she didn't have much of a backstory yet.

Next, Luna went to Earth for a while, as I played through Phantasy Star Zero (which I had imported). Here I didn't have the option to customize her much, so I just went with the light sky blue and white color scheme. It was around this point that I decided that all the Lunas running around in my Phantasy Star games were the same individual, and that in Luna's backstory she was originally a human girl that was nearly killed in some traumatizing, tragic occurrence, and as she was dying, her life was saved by a genius scientist who surgically converted her into a Cast. The light blue-green color also stuck in the back of my head for a while, to come back later on as her hair color.

In Phantasy Star Portable 2, Luna received a makeover. I added black to her color scheme, but she still wore primarily white, and still had white hair. Around this point I was starting to come up with more and more backstory, how she drifted in and out of universes to help fight Dark Falz. Somewhere near the end, at a fairly high level, I decided to change her hair color to bright blue-green.

In Luna's transition to Infinity, she received even longer hair with curls and waves in it, and her color scheme was flipped: primarily black armor with white and blue-green as secondary colors. As far as backstory, I explored what her life was like as a member of Little Wing, and how she reacted to the Ragol simulations. I also finally decided on a made-up surname of Ralenz, a name that, when read, looks glitzy and exotic, but when heard, sounds like the completely boring, normal "Rollins". (Luna's preferred pronunciation, but most pronounce it ruh-LENZ or RAY-lenz.) I wanted to make Luna's name look unusual, but sound normal.

PSO2 was where I really started to flesh out Luna's design and character. As I began drawing her more, she gained her crescent-shaped ahoge (which is sadly impossible to display in-game, and I don't just want to give her a normal ahoge) and her current armor design. I added a lot to her backstory (click my sig to read it), and as I get better at digital coloring, Luna is looking closer and closer to how I envision her in my mind. She started out with a primarily black color scheme, but it was flipped back to white again via CV parts.

But Luna isn't just a character to me. I have a lot of characters, but Luna Ralenz is the one I'm the most sentimental about. It may sound cheesy, but she is my trusted companion -- through her, I'm able to go on cool adventures, hunt rares, and kick ass together with my friends.

Hunter History [Making of The Character, PSOBB 2005 - PSO2 Present day] |
[SPOILER-BOX]
Alright, so let’s get the elephant out of the room. When I first started the Phantasy Star series with Blue Burst for the PC, there were two major things I was interested in. Firstly, the jaw dropping 200 level cap. My god, the concept of going beyond even 100 was baffling to me! And the second most important point: I GET TO MEET SANIC!!!! OMG!!!! That’s just how I thought of the world around me back then, if Sonic was somewhere in the game, I was an instant customer and devout follower of said game no matter what people said. I’m sure many of us were the same when we were young. And hopefully like myself, our reasons for playing the game changed as we climbed the level-ladder.

http://i.imgur.com/bhXaT.jpg
I was rather stumped with a character name at the time. My sister was urging me to try and make a different character over the typical character I normally used. With no leads on how to design my nickname, I decided to follow the two word pattern of using an adjective with a noun. Tried multiple combinations and ended up with the name, AzureEdge. Once I finally had a name, the rest of the character was easy to make through the limited customization options which unintentionally took the color pallet of a certain hedgehog. Honestly, unintentionally! Blue is like my favorite color and green happens to go great with it ^^;. As I explored the galaxy of Ragol with my fellow hunters, we’d make occasional cracks of my character’s color pallet. And of course I made it my personal mission to acquire all the all of the sonic items in the game. I’ve only one regret when the official server shutdown occurred; I never acquired the mythical Zanba sword :(. But I still look back to all the fun times of those days; including nonstop usage of Burning Rangers Discs when fighting Dark Falz.

Though I did play PSU, it was at this point I had grown out of the sonic craze after experiencing the horror known as the Secret Rings and explored different options besides being a HUmar sonic enthusiast. I did attempt to recreate the little guy in the extra offline mode but I wasn’t too satisfied with the hair options and had an obsession with blonde spikey hair at the time. AzureEdge’s experiment did introduce me to the beast race which I grew the love and dearly miss. :( I still enjoyed my time on PSU for what it was an I shall miss that game. But it does make things better that PSO2 has adopted a lot of what was good about the game.

Funny story, a few years later, my sister and I ended up playing a game called Tales of Vesperia. A game that featured a spamable sword hadoken called “Azure Edge” (http://i.imgur.com/wvg5n.jpg). So if that doesn't sound like validation of a badass name, I don’t know what is.

http://i.imgur.com/WialJ.jpg
Now getting back to PSO2, I wanted to make a third character alongside my HUcast and RAnewm(both who may or may not get entries here in the near future). So then I began reminiscence on the good times I had with the character AzureEdge. In time, I decided to play around with re-envisioning that character with PSO2's engine. Figured it was time to have a good laugh at myself and the silly things I used to do (some I still do even today). I took more of Sonic’s features into account such as long legs, small torso; closest to 100 cm as I could get; and the cat ears combined with Aki’s hairstyle really help nail the true blue mimicry. The glasses however were a reference to my PSU character who’s defining feature were blue glasses. The red trimmed were just the only ones that didn't hide the eyes so much. It’s not like the blue hedgehog hasn't worn them before. Looking at the design now, I’m rather satisfied with his decade long evolution.

I'll definitely be bracing for the waves of "Fakers"(half-assed Sonics, some who won't even so much as bother as to get remotely into character) on the English servers as it is inevitable. But I shall take pride in being a somewhat more tasteful play on the character. It's part of the reason why I don't give myself the name Sonic directly at this point as it acts as something like a filter. I'm just another player to the general populous, but the more observant or the those who already know the people I hang out with will be able to make the connections to my references. And those ultimately are more likely to be the kind of people I'll want to hang out with. Besides this is more-so a tribute to my PSO1 character than it is a tribute to Sonic. Already, I've met tons of people through this new identity. Some of my old buddies from my other characters, some new ones, and even a team who was willing to take me in even when my character was still a newborn. Eventually, I came to enjoy this character well enough to crown him as my new main character. Hence why my PSO-W account now reflects a Sonic style to it instead of its former brooding cast supremacy one akin to Commander Nilhos. I guess I liked the character more than my others because it was mainly inspired by my own behaviors over the characters I actually spent time to create extensive background for. Though there is still much improvement needing to be done to this game, the bonds I've formed through playing the game and the my simple pleasures of Hokuto Drillkening anything that comes my way will keep me a happy customer for years to come. Both on the English servers and the Japanese servers.

Now I get slightly more original.

First inspiration was Noel Vermillion, but I try to be less obvious.

Tingle had been my character since PSO1. I enjoyed an idea of a more bumbling taller adult child thing for this current running of ms.gle.

I often joke about how Tingle is a walking female identification of myself considering her body type being super thin, and stretched out tall. Plus being almost useless by herself doesn't hurt either.
though Tingle was originally set to be like this one (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8c/Pita-Ten_manga_volume_1_cover.jpg). Til i got tired of being a clingy bitch.

I came up with my character Christna Trinnity back in PSU and I've stuck with that as my main character through phantasy star titles since.

A+ on this topic, for the record. Great stuff here.

Cocona is a tribute to my favorite Ar Tonelico series character. She more or less adapts much of her personality from the third game, but I've put my own touches on her here and there. She's adapted to the PS universe nicely; she's merely missing an airboard to fly around on :P

My character was (drumroll) an attempt to recreate my FOmarl character from PSO that I have grown so used to.
[spoiler-box]http://www.pso-world.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1886&pictureid=25276[/spoiler-box]
Originally, I picked FOmarl because I liked the robe, the awesome hat and the great makeup that she had, and didn't think about the possibility of her having a personality. It has proven, however, that she wasn't who she wanted to seem, as she obviously was a shitty Force, and instead preferred to kill the enemies with handguns and sabers (and, much later, a minigun). That unsolved mystery was the reason that made her become first my main character (sorry, Alex, but HUmars are as awesome as they are generic), and then - the only one, after reincarnating on the server that can't be named. The mystery of her past was to remain unsolved, though, as PSO is great, but boring.

My current character was first supposed to be another reincarnation of the terrible Force, and while she does succeed at that in some areas (in no small part thanks to me, though drop rates also helped until Falz came along), the looks are not one of them. I did try my best, but the lack of the FOmarl's eyeliner from PSO really killed it. Come on, Sega, how could you drop the ball like that? So, I just went with a generic pretty face and a dress.
[spoiler-box]http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/8237/filesfront.jpg[/spoiler-box]
And she's got a backstory now, because why the hell not. It doesn't explain how come she's now capable of using a fireball correctly and how come there isn't a single handgun or saber in the entire ARKS fleet's arsenal, though, so not every mystery has been solved yet.

for the record: Im not good with face editors of any kind.

I mostly just base my characters around existing anime characters. I start with the hair and eye colors and go from there.

sometimes I just mix the colors up a little lke this time:

Jason the very first name that came to my mind and I just shrugged my shoulders before using it.
[/SPOILER-BOX]

I played BB for a while before moving on to Exteel and then RF online after exteel was closed down by NC soft. During that time I stumbled upon a fan art of a game on devaintart.

[SPOILER-BOX] http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd312/demon345/ad0be15efadb9c0d1226be8dbac8698e.jpg The artist said it was based off one of the three Accretia Kings Altrax [/SPOILER-BOX]

The fanart inspired me to try to build a CAST similar to the king and I kept the name. Since the parts i needed were not in the game I kept the color scheme. I gave the name Jason to my human character in PSU.

In PSP2-PSP2/i I keep changing the parts but kept the name and color scheme. I remade my human character and named him Muramasa( don't have a screenshot)

Grifs Astoni
Jan 20, 2013, 11:19 AM
Lol same as Code-Red, mine kinda came from RF Online too.

Here's a rundown:
[spoiler-box]
RF Online (Accretian Gunner) - Take note of the head.
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m28/Divinehorse/PSO2/Character%20Logbook/a_gunner_lv39.gif

Armored Core: Nexus (Evangel/Oracle) - The head as well. The basis for this was mostly from its proportions though.
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m28/Divinehorse/PSO2/Character%20Logbook/_-Armored-Core-Nexus-PS2-_.jpg

Gundam UC 0087 (Qubeley) - The shoulder parts and the legs.
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m28/Divinehorse/PSO2/Character%20Logbook/p3.jpg

and PSP2 lol. - Same basis as Qubeley; shoulders and legs.
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m28/Divinehorse/PSO2/Character%20Logbook/defaultcastmale.jpg
[/spoiler-box]

So yeah, the result is pretty much this:
[spoiler-box]
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m28/Divinehorse/PSO2/pso20130120_234349_001.jpg

GFSA is just an abbreviation of Grifs Astoni (a name I had from another game), which means Vulture Eight in Latvian. Vulture because I used to be a sniper/hit-and-run sort of player, and Eight because that was my designated team number. No idea why I made it Latvian though. As for the colors, it's just my signature color scheme (Black, Gold/Sand/Yelow, and Blue/Green/Teal).
[/spoiler-box]

(edit: I forgot to add my name)

Galax
Jan 20, 2013, 12:13 PM
What? Galax, not make Galax again? And Migitgun is a phantasy star requirement for me. I can't play a game without making them :/

Galax was the original; FOmar, blueful on PSOXbox. Migit came in later, on BB; I had fun messing with ranged attacks thrown by enemies, as they often flew over my head as I closed in. The name stuck, and he's been made a few times over.

CyberNei

Well, Nei is made mostly like a real Nei was. Purple hair, red eyes, long ears.

[SPOILER-BOX]http://cs402329.userapi.com/v402329745/5894/Zk9XjivOZVo.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]
Why Cyber... ? um...
Back at early 00x there was a fan joke about SEED AI and Nei's genetic code (referring to Phantasy Star IV), which somehow made me want to make a Nei character in PSOPC v2. My main by then was a RAcast named satana (now my second char). I was so deep in that CAST SUPREMACY world, so I knew, I must make a caseal. Just need to merge Nei's genetic code with it's CPU, to create that Newcast race. Then I made her, a CyberNei. I used this character in PSOBB, PSU, PSZ etc etc. And gonna stick to her untill Phantasy Star series vanishes in eternity.
