Character Encoding/Font used in Chat Window

I'm looking for fancy characters to use in chat, but many end up being just blocks. Anyone got an idea? I'll take external links, I just need to see what characters I can use.

Solid square blocks mean the client doesn't support that kind of front for that kind of letter, symbol etc so they end up showing like that on your screen.

It looks like that encoding is a bit more cramped for ASCII art, but I guess it's ok if you don't have the time / artistry for Symbol Art.
