View Full Version : Why wait for the NA/EU version?

Du1337
Feb 10, 2013, 03:48 PM
Im from Holland (Europe) and like others im still waiting for the English version to come out...

Ive been reading allot on the forums about the JP game and it's players and the threads spread good news about them.

The big issue for me is that Im afraid I wont be able to play 100% of the game since not 100% of the game is translated (patched)... And I really want to play 100% of this game...
Do u have crucial errors when playing the JP version when u cant understand Japanese?

Considering that they're even releasing a story mode english patch too, the only thing that you would notice is server-side names (like items), and voices in japanese, plus maybe some dialogues or texts that aren't translated yet for some reason. I don't think it's that difficult to get used to the names in japanese, and in case of the voices, well, that's what subtitles are for, so it's like if you were watching a subtitled anime... <_<

I think the easiest way for you to deal with this is simply to have a good database at hand. like the Cirnopedia, and soon you won't even need that. Having some friends that know about the game already should help too.

To be honest I don't see any reason to not to give it a try. You can always switch to the US servers when they come. If you still plan on doing so after trying the JP ones, simply don't invest too much effort (and money) on it so you don't have anything holding you there when that happens.

No?I had no issues with playing the game before any patches were released. Patches now really just reduce how many times I had to refer to a guide. Now i may as well be playing the english version for all intents and purposes.

There's a menus patch a story patch and an english launcher. only thing left to be translated is item names(though these can't be translated) and random bits of dialogue that really add nothing to the game as a whole. I know wha tthe items are by their japanese names 99% of the time and for the ones I dont they treat us like we all work at McDonald's and have giant pictures for the things you have. "oh a consumable with 3 dots? well the monomate at 1 dot, this must be the tricheeseburger...trimate...*beep*"

Why not? You just have a preview of the game that is free to play and doesn't require much effort from your part except just wasting time on the updates (since the game takes like a day and half to download, install and patch, at least it did to me) and downloading the english patch. Just don't make any serious investment in the game, play it thinking on your future time on the US servers testing stuff, and hey, maybe you'll end comfortable enough to stay there. xD

I had hesitated for so long, because I wanted to play the NA version when it was released. Since then I've joined up, met a lot of great folks already, and only get slightly frustrated at the language barrier I have with the game. But having played PS series before ... well, I kind of knew what to expect at least lol

I don't regret my choice to dedicate myself to JP servers.

Hope you have fun :D

You don't necessarily HAVE to buy ARKS Cash if you're ultra careful with your character layout and designs. But yes if you are able to get passed the Hiragana capcha this is totally an experience not worth missing out on!

I think the only thing that can't be translated as of yet is the weapon names. But I'm not really sure about the technical details on that. The complete story patch (all of the blue tablets, all of the matter board events and all of the story missions) comes out on february 14th. With that the game should be over half in english, and so it's only a matter of time until we cut down more and more on that. So at this point, so I don't think there's any reason not to play unless you're really bothered by hiragana captcha's and katakana weapon names.

What if Arks Cash doesn't cost as much on the non-JP servers?

That'd be a nice bandaid fix (though only if the AC Shop prices are scaled down to match), but it wouldn't address the overall quality of service concerns that people are having. Cheaper AC wouldn't fix a server that's behind in content, overrun with hackers, and has the advertising budget of a dead-beat hobo. Not saying that's what'll happen, but you can't really argue against that, can you?

My only issue with the Japanese version is the mark up when trying to get AC. I'm getting tired of paying nearly double the money just to do premium. Without the mark up I could do gold scratches and what not. So when it hits the U.S. I'll be switching over for sure. Or if they make it where we can use western credit cards for the Japanese servers and give us an english translated version of the Japanese servers then I'll stay.

Where are you getting AC? I got 3000 AC through SuToCorp and it only cost me $36.40... that's definitely not double.^^;

Then again, the dollar is getting stronger as of lately, last I checked google 1 usd is equal to about 92 yen. Soon enough, it might not even be that big of a markup. Unless someone screws up the economy again.

Yeah, it's micro-transactions which are how the game makes money even as a free to play game... you can play for free but if you want you can spend money to get extras such as more storage space, My Room, or new Mags.

because the item names are requested from Sega's server, not stored client side, except in cache I believe

I mean, it could be possible, but it's not nearly as easy as dropping in a hacked up file

Darki
Feb 11, 2013, 04:14 PM
As far as I know, those are never going to get patched simply because they're server-side, meaning that you don't actually have their names in a file that can be patched like game menus and story dialogues.

If having those items in english is something that would hinder your gameplay, then I regret to tell you that you probably wouldn't be comfortable in the JP servers. But to be honest I don't see why being able to read their names and descriptions in english would be so important, what matters is what the weapon does, or not? <_<

Because when I DL that English patch it slows down my computer and my computer is not really compatable with high PSO 2 so I have to play with low settings most of the times. So playing with JP version right now. And still don't know things. Lol can't afford a new computer right now

It would require a data packet inspector/injector that modified the information shared between client and server and that won't ever be allowed by any game since as easily as you could use it to translate the games you could use it to give yourself max damage, infinite health, experience, etc.

And why would SoJ take the hassle to make an "official patch" and maintain it for just a bunch of people who shouldn't even play in their servers, when they're actually releasing a whole server for us? That's even less likely than any group taking the risk of making a hack, in my opinion.

Darki

That would only happen if the patch was actually much larger in text than the original japanese file... But even then, I don't really know why having to add more letters would slow down the game that much. <_<

I mean, unless the file was like gigabytes bigger than the original... But then even a normal game patch would crap your game, they're usually gigabytes big...

sigh. your posts are useless also. i was simply asking a question.

A question that had actually been hinted by me in the second post of this thread. One would assume that you'd at least check the thread a bit to see what's it about... And to see if what you've asked has been answered already. You'd be forgiven in a 10+ pages thread maybe, but in a 4 pages one (at the time of your impolite post) where the thing you're asking was already answered since post 2...

... is not like anybody would really care about a repeated question, but the problem is that you come with that attitude. Well, maybe my useless posts wouln't exist if you hadn't actually posted your even more useless question and then your absolutely useless witty answer.

So here's a lesson: Don't be an ass in forums and you'll avoid useless answers.

The english patch is basically the files taken from the game directly. Basically when you hit "A" in front of Echo it triggers an event

event 2787273, echo, npc, "あぅ!こんにちは!"

Basically all the english patch does, is change the Japanese written in the file being referenced to english. And that's done by over writing the file itself.

event 2787273, echo, npc, "Oh! Hello there!"

So there's no reason the english patch would slow down your computer any more than playing the game in raw english because, there's nothing added on top of the game itself, only the text in those files is changed.
