Do you have to make a new sega ID in order to play online I want to use my existing sega ID. Didn't see any info on it. Thanks!

If you're talking about the Vita version, an existing ID can be used.

Do you have to create a new character in order to get to that point or is there certain menu you need to go through?

Just log in and play. The accounts become locked upon you entering the Sega ID, meaning if you have multiple accounts, you're bound to the account you signed in with. The same goes with PSN accounts, linking a Sega ID to it will not allow you to use that Sega ID under a different PSN ID.

You're most likely trying to play on a different ship than the one you started on. Maybe.
