does anyone else think 99% of the female characters in this game look hideous?

idk who did the characters designs in this game, but they need to be dragged behind the shed and shot down.

Are we talking player or NPC here?
I'm goin to guess your talkin about player characters and I'll say this:
Fear of making something that looks disproportionate (or something like that...kinda more my reason.)
Most people (assuming again) like the base type and will only modify, say, eye shape (sometimes by fractions of a difference)
Others are artist with things like this and try and go completely original.
Finally there are those that love the base type and do nothing to it. (Or they're just lazy)

I'm on the fence about them, but really I just feel the character creator is a bit limited despite all the sliders there are, thus a lot of the characters are gonna have similar features. (I actually think Milla's face is pretty generic myself)

Agreeing with this so hard. I try to do the face blending as much as I can, but I don't touch the finer details after that for this exact reason (which kinda kills me on other MMOs and games like Skyrim and Demon/Dark Souls).

Also agreeing with this. Don't blame Sega over something that's up to the player.

The character creator has the potential to be powerful (even more so if they expanded on it further; I mean, just look at the NPCs), but it is simply a toy if a person doesn't utilize it to its full potential.

If you think that's bad, I'd hate to see what you'd say about some older games like, say, Flyff. Heck, I'd even bring Megaten Online, Fantasy Earth Zero, and Dynasty Warriors Online into this if I had to.

with PSO2, its not an issue of graphics, but the design (art direction) is poor. theyre just ugly.

...You sure about that? Because I wasn't referring to the graphics at all. I will admit that the dated graphics don't help, but some of the facial designs in those games make me elicit an "OH DEAR GOD WHY" loud enough to wake the dead (and possibly the neighbors), which effectively forces me to same-face.

But yeah, you think you've seen same-face? You've obviously never seen the character designer for visual novel developer Navel (or have you? I've seen the gif a number of times in my time on the internet).
