I saw this image (http://www.pso2-uploader.info/uploda/src/up48650.jpg) on pso2-uploader and I'm wondering how I can make my game look like this.

That's going to depend largely on your video cards.

Yeah, I said cards.

Ambient occlusion Forced via nvidia inspector settings.

You can also see how a lot of times it hates fog in that picture.

yeah... i put those settings on and i get like 4 frames per sec, but i still do it for contests and vanity shots+^_^+ just make sure you keep an eye on temps if your machine isn't good enough to actually have good FPS with SGSSAA and AO

Is there an AMD equivalent?

Is there an AMD equivalent?

Radeon Pro recently got updated (by recent i mean in the last 2 years) and may now have similar functions+^_^+ though i don't know if the same bits work the same way for AMD hardware and drivers, at the least you should be able to get good AA+^_^+

EDIT; guess it has AO+^_^+

Cool blur and smoothing that loses detail and runs like shit

Yeah, it looks pretty blurry.

Radeon Pro.
The AO isn't as clean as Nvidia's, but you get access to SweetFX for better Bloom and HDR effect.

PSO2: Clay Edition.

That's all I can think of when I see images that look like that.

TaigaUC
Apr 18, 2013, 07:15 PM
That's some painfully excessive SSAO.

Edit:
Apparently it looks significantly different on other people's computers. I have two different monitors and on both monitors the contrast between the AO shadows and the rest of the image is really high. The AO is so heavy that I can use Photoshop to brighten the entire image and only the shadows still stay black.

Edit2:

Does remind me of ENB stuff.... in the way of where you see this stuff making "neat looking" screenshots but you try to actually play with the same settings and it just looks "horrible" in motion.

..That said, not impossible to find settings that "improve" the defaults while playing.

SociableTyrannosaur

it's in the SGSSAA thread. do that and force AO

What's your GPU?
If Nvidia, Nvidia inspector
If AMD, use RadeonPro

For the record, this is what the game should look like with proper AO:

did you find a new AO bit, Zyru or is that one of your "not much longer before GG catches on" shots?

Zyrusticae
Apr 18, 2013, 08:59 PM
I switched to using the Dead Space bits, since it has much less trouble with hair seams than the Mirror's Edge bits (though it still has trouble, mostly in the lobby and with specific outfits for some impossible-to-discern reason).

SociableTyrannosaur
Apr 18, 2013, 09:02 PM
Ah, nice. I'll give those a try then.

god those shadows look horrible

is that haloing or whatever's going on in that second pic in the game normally?

Zyrusticae
Apr 18, 2013, 09:36 PM
The haloing is purely a side-effect of poorly tuned AO, which should tell you all you need to know about how much of a fucking pain in the ass it is to try to find good AO bits for a game that has none.

It still looks far better than no AO at all, as far as I'm concerned, so I stick with it. Can't stand the flatness of the default lighting.

SociableTyrannosaur
Apr 18, 2013, 10:26 PM
Yeah I switched it over to the deadspace bits. Definitely an improvement even on quality.

Finally tried the 8xMSAA + 4xSGSSAA. Overall performance is much better now. Interesting how quirky this game is.

Tip: Having Shadows off look better then having them on Quality 2, or put them on Quality 5.

If they're on Quality 5 then man... Your res must be low. ;A;

To OP: I don't really think it looks any better.

Protip: Don't speak of things you are completely ignorant of.

This is absolutely everything in-game maxed, plus 4x SGSSAA, plus high quality driver-forced ambient occlusion, at 1920x1080 resolution.

'Nuff said.

[Spoiler-box] Also I'm just impressed that CGI-esque quality can be maintained for actual gameplay...'cause I'm used to things like Mario Sunshine and Metroid: Other M where the CGI is grand and gameplay graphics are lesser. [/Spoiler-Box]

Probably not >_>. Forcing the better visuals in this game requires some pretty beefy tech.

I'll post some screens of Myria later. On a $500 card I still can't get it perfect, but it looks pretty good IMO.

yeah, I don't think my machine can handle it, purely cause the benchmark says on medium quality I get a steady 30-some fps...
