View Full Version : "The Most Common Online Character names"
Well we all know that for
HUmar = Trunks/Sephiroth/or one of the other Super Saiyans
and RAcast has alot of Names from the Transformer series
RAcast = favorite transformer here
But what are some of the other popular names online because I wont to avoid those names at all cost http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
The main name that im concerned about is what are most FOmar's named?
And what about the HUwearls
well i'll like to take this time,to thank everyone for there perticipation in advance, its greatly appreciate http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif must avoid those common names at all cost http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Well, for common names, stay away from anything pertaining to Gundam, Dragonball, or a host of the other crappy anime that the Cartoon Network shows.
...and if you're looking for other names to avoid, having any of the names mentioned above, along with sniper/snipah, mastah, killer/killah, psycho, or whatever words with random Zs the current trendiest, illiterate ghetto trash rapper has made up will instantly identify you as a major tool and or/lamer, ADD-riddled 12 year-old. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
You can get some cool names if you dig around online. I use (often obscure) Norse, Greek, Celtic and Roman gods for the names of most of my characters.
I prefer names from SciFi legends like ummmm...
<----- !Dune!
ps i hate the 80's movie. it is an embarrassment to the series. RAWR

Toonami's just a collection of shows on the cartoon network (I think Fox picked it up, too); it's still the same network.
Besides, crap like Dragonball, Gundam, and many of the others Toonami shows are absolute bottom-of-the-barrel garbage. Horrible art, horrible writing, horrible translations. I mean, hell... I'd be suprised if every half hour episode of Dragonball had more than 5 total frames of animation. Break it down by parts... you've got 10 minutes of commercials, 3 minutes of recap from the last episode, 5 minutes of babbling about "power", and 12 minutes of grunting and screaming.
And then Gundam, with it's whiny, angsty, anti-social teenagers... if it was any more lame, it'd be a Squaresoft game. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
Back on topic, though, vitually anything that's derrived from another video game or a popular movie is going to wind up being a cliche, or at least common name.
One thing I used to do is to use the name generators in DAoC or EQ, and keep generating names until something gave me an idea.
Yeah, stay away from the anime and the video game referenes (especially Final Fantasy) unless you're going for someone that's an obscure supporting character no one would recognize...
What I recomend is that you browse a modern baby name book... there's some good ones online... and you might find some very interesting ideas.

Here's my surefire way to have original character names: Bacon! At one point, I had Liquid Bacon, Magic Bacon, Mini Bacon, and Robo Bacon.
IceBlink
04-04-2003, 01:27 AM
I used songs for my first two characters. Hehe.
IceBlink = from "Iceblink Luck" by Cocteau Twins.
Lyric = ... c'mon, pretty obvious
Ra'asiel = derived from the angel name Ra'asiel X, an angel invoked in ritual magic (c'mon, what does PBs look like? a ritual!)
Common names... any of major DBZ cast, in any variation (SS, SSJ, SS2, SSJ2, etc etc up to 5, +name of character in various spellings), all gundam pilots and their gundams (though not as rare), the bad guys of squaresoft games (Sephiroth is a major hit), Transformer names (generally the powerful ones, aka Optimus, Megatron, Ultramagnus, Starscream, etc, nobody is gonna be BumbleBee), any kind of 'darkness' somewhere in the name (Dark, Shadow, etc), Japanese anime swordsmen (HUmar with katana-type weapon, complete with quote)... list goes on and on. Hehe

nobody is gonna be BumbleBee
If I were forced at gunpoint to name a character after a TF character, you can be sure it would be BumbleBee, the true brains of the opperation.
As for common PSO names, I'd say all of the aforementioned, as well as a lot of SW references such as Darth (fill-in-the-blank), and Boba Fett. Not to mention the names Zero, Glacier, Shadow, Ghost, et cetera. Originality is a commodity spread thin through the PSO ranks. But if you like a name, hey, go for it.

Dragonball Z is nowhere near the league of anime shows such as Macross Plus, Jin-Roh, Mononoke, etc etc, but some episodes are fun to watch. It sucks, but it's fun, if that makes any sense.
I do agree that much of each episode are powerup sequences followed by over-the-top battles where each combatant progressively 'reveals his true power' while destroying everything around them. Way, WAY overdone.
And then Gundam, with it's whiny, angsty, anti-social teenagers... if it was any more lame, it'd be a Squaresoft game.
Wasn't Kingdom Hearts by Squaresoft?
Anyway, I think you're talking about Gundam Wing, the one where the Gundams look ridiculously overdressed (except for the one with all the guns...can't have too many guns).
If you've ever watched Gundam: War in the Pocket, you'd might start to see the show the way it is supposed to be - a statement on the senselessness of war, and not just some anime filled with giant mecha.
As for names to avoid, don't be another one of the million Sephiroths, Clouds, Gokus, Vegetas, SSJMAJINs, Gotenks, Gogetas and other DBZ/FF7/FF8/FF10 filth. Avoid names from popular teenage anime shows like Gundam Wing and Pokemon.
Don't ever name your character offensively. 'STFU BISH' isn't a very good name to inspire respect for your character.
Keep away from names which overcompensate ie. 'Shadowkilla', 'Ninjakilla', 'Darkmasta'. However 'Gosukiller' is a good battlemode name ;>
Also, don't use names from LOTR seeing as the movies (which were excellent, btw) were released to the general public and every teenager out there now wants to be a Legolas or a Sauron.
As for names you might use:
TF names are cool, because classic TF is a good series. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
Cowboy Bebop is also good. It's one of the few anime series aimed at a more intelligent audience - the kind which can appreciate subtle humor.
My Ramarl is named Yuri (as in Kei and Yuri), for obvious reasons. I wish she had a battle bikini instead of those pantaloons...but oh well.
Names from Battle Angel Alita are good, as I don't see alot of Gallys, or Jashugans, or Desty Novas running around. (A Humar named Jashugan has yet to be seen. Come to think of it...a Fonewm with goggles named Desty Nova would rock. KYAHAHAHAHA! NOW GIVE ME MY FLAN!)
Hmm...names from Norse, Greek, Roman and Indian (as in India) mythology are good. My mules are named Hera, Minerva, Calliope and Lachesis.
Original names are the best. My Hunny and Fonewearl characters were named from a fanfic (Xallah, Sandra), as are the names of my friends' characters.
Original names with a background are quite fun sometimes. My Racast's name was something I made up: 'T-90 COMBAT'. I figured that androids are manufactured SOMEWHERE on Pioneer 2, so why not make up an imaginary model/series of android racasts and run with it?
The T-90 series were supposed to be cleaning droids, but somebody left out a commar in the programming of their logic drivers and now they're out there cleaning up the 'trash' on Ragol. This makes for some hilarious chat shortcuts like
"Removes even the toughest stains, or your meseta back!"
"Try T-90 brand bleach, it burns!!"
If all else fails, make up names based on obscure items (ie. ginko biloba).

I couldn't agree with you more! Cowboy Bebop is one of the few anime series I actually like. I've had the movie, imported, for a while now, but I'm actually going to see it at the theater tonight!
...and Mononoke, quite frankly, is awesome. They did such a good job dubbing it to English, too. It's got, in my opinion, the best movie soundtrack ever to boot.
Riffin
04-04-2003, 08:41 AM
I'm not too big on anime, but I do watch what I can get my hands on. I saw Kenshin subtitled before it was ever on Toonami, and my question is: Is Myazaki's Spirited away just a disney movie in anime disguise or is it actually as good as the critic's say? Please let me know soon, I am going to see it Tuesday next week.
Thanks.
Oh, I use names to get Sect ID's too, but avoid all common ones. I try to use orginal stuff that sounds cool, like Riffin, Wrecca, and Quell. (Mith is one of my offline Chars also.)

Jet, do you know there are three things I particularly hate? Kids, animals, and women with attitudes. So tell me, Jet. Why do we have all three neatly gathered here in our ship!?
LOL.
And Hayao Miyazaki is a master at what he does. There's something about his films which set them apart from the rest, maybe it's the underlying message which the shows convey from start to end. I dunno. All I know is that if it's produced by him, it's worth watching.
edit:
Of all the Miyazaki films I've seen, none of them are Disney abominations in disguise. This includes Mononoke Hime, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro and Castle of Cagliostro. Nobody breaks out into spontaneous song, and the closest thing to the requisite Disney sidekick is Kiki's black cat (she's a witch, she NEEDS a talking black cat).
About the only Disney movies which I can tolerate watching are The Lion King (I fastforward through the singing parts) and The Emperor's New Groove. The latter show in particular shows a shift in Disney thinking when it comes to film production. The only singing part is in the beginning, cleverly disguised as the intro, and there are no cute sidekicks. Besides, the main character is a freakin' llama ;>

One might want to steer clear of some Japanese names or words unless you know what they mean (I had a FOmarl named Kakkoyosa in DCv2, which meant "style") I'm equally guilty of the "Dark/Shadow/Gundam" bit. Hell, DarkEpyon, the name I use pretty much everywhere is a hybrid of that. As for Zeota, I'd made that up sometime in 1996 (or so I thought at the time) but it turns out it's an actual female name. An extremely rare one.
Elusive_Llama

Oh, Elusive_Llama comes from playing online FPS games like Day of Defeat. Because the term 'llamas' refer to (among other things) 'no skill campers', and elusive means 'hard to catch', I figured to put the two together and get the elusive llama. The ultimate 'hard to catch, harder to shoot, no skill camping bastard'.
ps. Camping requires no skill. Staying alive to continue camping DOES require skill. If you play Day of Defeat, watch for Comrade Yasminkov...that's me, heh.

I just use the name Lore seeker, which I have been using for years now. My HUmar has a slightly less original name: Sesshomaru, from Inu Yasha. My crappy little FOmar has the name Leaf, and I haven't seen anyone yet with that name.
If you want to avoid any names in particular, please steer clear of the DBZ names and most of the Gundam ones. You would be better off sticking with a minor character from an old RPG or something like that. Shadow is too popular, and I have no idea why. Maybe Sonic, maybe not. The world may never know.

OMFG Zeebo, me too! You probably already know that's where my RAmarl's name came from (Oni forever, w00t!). And, my main name of all, hailing from the underrated and often hated RPG series, Evolution. As for any other characterss besides Konoko and Mag, It's kinda random. Like my HUmar, similar to the person of the same name in Dark Cloud 2. I'm still debating on on a 4th character...
I GUESS my name is original. Haven't really seen many people use it much. Haven't seen it AT ALL on Episode 1 & 2. I saw that most Mag Launchers on Version 2. There was one I became friends with, and there were a small handful of others that were just assholes trying to imitate me (They were, they said it to my face.) because I pissed them off at some point in time.
But I have been known as Mag Launcher from the very first day of PSO Version 1's release. So I do not hesitate to push my superiority over all these wannabe posers claiming they're me.

The name I have under this account is the name of my ranger. It's based off a series of stories I'm working on where a man becomes a wandering healer and is forced to bear the name Tseng... however unusually there is a FF Character named Tseng. >_<

A good name is kinda hard to think up or find.
My two characters, Aziel and Raziel Kai are basically something I thought of on the spot. I had recently seen the whole Evangelion series and I kinda wanted to make a HUcast in white, that would look like an EVA 05. But instead of labeling it as EVA or a "Angelkilla", I tried to think up some name that sounded like an angel's.
Aziel was the first ever character I made, on the DC, but since I never got the modem, he didn't debut ever on the online game.
Raziel Kai was supposed to be some kind of 'rebirth' for Aziel... but the problem was I didn't have my DC around with me to remind myself of the correct name (Aziel), so I put in Raziel (probably some video game made me do it subconsciously http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif), and added Kai (which means, in mecha terms, better model)...
One of the best names I have seen yet with my friends' characters is Fritz. He's a Fonewm that looks just like he ditched Willy Wonka and his gang.

I'm probably WAY off topic here, but being a large Gundam fan (and literate, and educated to boot.) I have to disagree with your statement :) If you'd like to amend it to say that Gundam Wing (Known as Gundam LITE amongst most hardcore fans) is crap, I'd be happy to agree. The Original Gundam series, and everything that's attached to that timeline is phenominal :)

I use old Role-playing game names, or in some cases old Phantasy Star names from the Japanese versions of the games. (Yusis Noa, for example, the hero of Phantasy Star II. In case anyone didn't know.)

Why do you hate Gundam so? I dont know if you are old enough but Gundam has been one of the pioneering and most defining anime series out of the entire genre. No anime is perfect, but you should at least accept that Gundam is as much a part of anime culture, if not more than any other anime.
Secondly, toonami has some good anime shows. Cowboy Beebop, in my opinion is one of the best executed animes thats ever been made. Yes its main stream but the plots and music and characters were masterfully combined.. there is so much depth to that series. Dont just go around blasting certain anime because you 'think' you are hardcore. People need to stop trying to be so elitist about anime and just enjoy them. They were made to be enjoyed..

Also, the whiny angst-ridden teenagers are in Gundam Wing, which is not even related to the 'real' Gundam series.
Gundam Wing was part of an effort to bring life back to the series on one of it's anniversaries. (can't remember which one)
It's also, IMO, the worst alternate universe for Gundam.
But please don't judge the entire... franchise for lack of a better word, until you get to know it better.

I just made some simple names for my characters.. my first two I had forgotten about the section IDs. One is named Gold because its the color of the hucaseal. The other is named Philia after the character from Slayers Try. My last two I named with section IDs in mind.

Hey, my first post since I got back into PSO! YAY!
Actually, this is to explain myself, not that I need to.
I'm guilty of using Shadow. Why? You're probably going to skip most of this message, but it's all true!
Back in Feb of 2000, I was drawing a character that was a spin-off of Sonic the Hedgehog. I called him ShadowSonic, since he was all black with blue shoes. Then, on the 22nd, I was hit with inspiration (or logic) and just re-drew him a bit better and called him Shadow. Since then he's been my screen name, email name, nickname and game name. Completely original to ME, and then SonicTeam decided to name this new black/red hedgehog in SA2 "Shadow"... I was PISSED. Sega's Shadow is called "Poser" by me and some close friends of mine.
Anyway, to sum it up, I thought of Shadow first, in my view. Maybe others have a similar situation?
Oh, back when I played DCv2 PSO, a lot of the DBZ-related named characters were hackers/dupers/lamers. Not saying all, but I've only been PKed by tiny characters with SSJ in front of their names.

Personally, I tend to go with original names: My HUmar is named Diem Nights (short for Nightstone) Which translates to Day. Pretty nice sounding eh? Named after an old D&D char I used to run. As for my FOmar, he's got a whole history behind him: He's an angel... well, in the LARP I used ta run him in he's fallen. But in PSO, he's still angelic. His name's Ikkaron . The three spaces are just for a pinkal id and it's unintrusive. As for customizing him, I've got the holy white, gold and purple robes, and a pair of angel wings for my MAG!
I am guilty of naming ONE character out of all of them after a Gundam series tho: my RAcast is RX-78-2 The original model number for Gundam.... which is still slightly more obscure then some of the more common Gundam names used for em http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif But hey, I made him as a theme, with Gundam colors, and Gundam-similar rifles (The WALS I believe, and purple or red beam sabers.

It's worse when people outright steal an original name you made up. So, the name I have for one of my characters is.....heh, me not making stating it http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
The most original char name I have seen is......
kfjtsdasaik+8....something like that

Dragon ball things for Hunters and Rangers(SSJBob), final fantasy things for almost all (Aka: Tidus, Lulu,Cloud,). Their real names. ******* spelled out (I saw two Zeros today. IN THE SAME GAME!). Anything that sounds remotly cool for anyone (Wazzup). Anything with things like ~*(BoBy)*~ infront of it.
Real sounding names. It is quite strange really. But one rant. I havent seen anyone with names from FinalFantasyTactics yet. Or the Simpsons...
