Success rates on all Grinders used until May 29th will be increased by 5%. (Elemental-Synthesizers and Ability-Adding are not affected.)

http://pso2.jp/players/news/?id=1452
Once servers are back up from today's maintenance, change your password at least once between then and June 5th to receive a My Room 3-Day pass and a Rappy decoration for said room.

....Figures they'd briefly raise grind rates right after I grind two 10* weapons to +10... Dudu manages to mock me even in his generosity.

Oh man! I totally need another My Room pass! I only have 8 left in my storage now!

I forsee the price of grind protects rising significantly for the upcoming week.

But grinds will be so easy you won't even need em~!

Maybe. Uptick in demand for grinding but less reason to use them.

Using these assumptions:

I didn't change the failure distribution in "assumed rates" since I mostly look for the proportions of failure penalties anyways.

So, using a (+1) reduction ticket is optimal at +8 and +9 only, a change from +7 and above under normal rates.

Also, the average cost of +0 -> +10 using optimal methods is, for now, less than a mil in total costs, which is pretty redonkulous.

Now if only that Umbra EQ would pop up so I could run it a million times and not get an Umblla stick to still fail to grind it to +10!

And I just grinded my cannon legacy. Oh well, I have 3 more unlocks to go!

Hell, not even using optimal budgeting and just bumrushing to +10 with no support items, the average cost of grinding something is 1.4m, which about the same as grinding with support items prepatch.

Might as well grind up the weapons that I've been holding onto for RA and FO. I've got ragne launcher, and falz AR/Rod which I've been wanting to use because they're free and also purple. Good time to put a dent in the 1800 grinders I've been holding onto.

lol, okay, so 7->10 on a 10* is now 25% per grind instead of 20%. That's still a 0.39% chance of getting through without a failure versus the rather more ludicrous 0.16% chance it is normally.

Fuck, these grinding rates are ridiculous. Under no circumstances should the success rate ever fall below 50%. Give me a fucking break!

Erm, what?

Even if you were assuming that success rates are 20% and 25% for attempting on a +7, +8, +9 starting weapon (they're only that low for +9) the overall success rate would still be (20%)^3=.8%, and (25%)^3=1.56% for going +7 -> +10 with 0 failures.

Data collected on this JP site (http://pso2osusume.com/kyouka-table/) shows 36%, 32%, and 22% for +7, +8, and +9 starting values, which gives a rate of (36%)(32%)(22%)=2.5% chance of succeeding with zero failures. With these changes, it would be (41%)(37%)(27%)=4.09%.

Next best source is the grinding thread here, which has rates above 30% for each of those points. Yeah, the overall chance is low, but thanks to the absolutely cratering price of grinders, so is the cost of attempting a grind.

I end up using protects and 5%'s anyways because fuck failure reduction. Even if it ends up the same cost-wise, I prefer not wanting to quit the game.

I had old data showing that the chance of success for grinding a 10* from +7 to +10 is consistently a 20% chance (and considering my experiences in-game, I'm more than inclined to believe this), but if they've actually gathered data from actual grinding records then I guess that is so.

My math was off because I assumed 4 grinds and not 3, because I forgot you stop at +10 (brain fart, I know).

But grinding most certainly is not cheap with how much you have to spend per-grind, regardless of the price of grinders themselves. But then, I don't consider anything going over 1m meseta to be "cheap", so perhaps my standards are skewed.

Misses the days of PSU bonuses. Drop rate increases... Free make overs... and much better grind bonuses...

Now I get to burst into flames for missing PSU.

Thanks sega, thanks.

Compared to the cost of other ways of increasing your damage (weapon purchases, affixing, elemental boosting for 10*s), grinding is cheap and feasible. On average two sets of tacos will get you a +10. The big downside is that since getting a +10 is quite feasible, people expect you to cart one around.

It's like DuDu is going out of his way to taunt us. Like he needed to before...>_>;

"I'll give you a 5% handicap and still kick your weapon's ass. Ufufufu..."

I do not see what the fuck is the hype about over this 5% grind boost shit Dudu is still gonna kick you, your wallet, and you weapons straight to the fuck factory.

GO AHEAD DUDU MAKE MY FUCKING IPOD

Just raise the success rate between +4 and +6, Sega. I can manage just fine after that.

Considering the sheer easiness with which we can grind since a couple of weeks before, I'd wager to say that the new "+1" protectors will actually give you a successful grind even if you miss it, if it's a miss at 0 penalty.

So combined with the boost this week, it should get really easy.

I...had no issues grinding my Stray Blower today.

Maybe this 5% boost really did something?

Ce'Nedra
May 22, 2013, 04:16 AM
5% boost, really? With Dudu's and PSO2's RNG 5% means nothing. If it was 10% I would been more tempted, but I'm already out of grinders anyway so I can't grind my Jinrai regardless ;s

Everything went pretty much as expected.

144 grinders, 18 +1 protects and 9 5% boosters to +10 a 10* three times - netting 9 10% ability affixs worth 70k each and 3 more 50% tribooster tickets... i can live with this considering i had everything in storage ready...

May 22, 2013, 04:18 PM
150 and 2 full protectors used to +10 my Jinrai from +1, that is after the other 550 I trew at it before this campaign. Not sure if working or lucky.

I don't trust this. I feel like seeing Dudu saying "Yes! 5%! Everything is going according to plan!"

If anything, my odds got worse. I needed almost 50 grinds to get back to +10 after unlocking a special ability - that's more tries than I usually need.
