What will happen to the storage when moving ships?

By chance I read here that storage is per ship, which is quite unexpected.
Thus what happens to the storage items when I move forth and back between ships? Will the items on the original ship still be there, or does the storage gets deleted on moving?

It stays on that ship until you access it again.
