In the update for June 12 we're getting Sonic's anniversary lobby, collaboration items for AC or FUN scratches from puyo puyo, valkyria chronicles, 7th dragon 2020, virtua fighter, and border break union, the Arks Bingo system, a limited time quest that has a boss based in border break, lvl 60 Dark Falz Elder with freezing attacks, and something related to a Kuna concert?

When there's more info about the update, I'll edit this first post.

EDIT: As soon as I finished making this topic, an article about this update was posted at bumped.
So...the new Falz Elder won't be a random EQ, but a scheduled EQ:

I honestly found Sonic Heroes to be a nice game, and feel like it only deserves hate for a few totally avoidable reasons...

I mean, level designs were pretty cool. Music was also nice. Compare this:

Oh my god shut the fuck up and let me just enjoy the level.

I wont even lie there were a lot of music I really like from a lot of the sonic games more Sonic Adventure 2 but Sonic 06 on the xbox(fucking bugs and glitches aside) had some worthy ost music. one being the valley music which I love personally.

Here is the complete version of the Three Segment Stage of Kingdom Valley with all 4 ost in one

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCaomZG5Q1U

Now here it is broken down into those 4 segments in order

Kingdom Valley-Wind
Kingdom Valley - The Castle
Kingdom Valley - Lakeside
Kingdom Valley - Water

[SPOILER-BOX]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzUdQfjyO9k

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCldwJwf1Ss

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAH9ehv9bvA

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZNiUCnVAg0[/SPOILER-BOX]

All that aside in all honesty, if they put as much work into the actual game as they did the soundtrack, I can safely say Sonic 06 could have been one of the best titles of all time. Soundtracks like these are usually only found in insanely revolutionary games like Mass Effect, Halo, Elder Scrolls, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, etc. I honestly saw what they were trying to go for with Sonic 06, and it was a good idea on paper(except maybe the horrible story), but there were so many factors working against it.

Falz with Freezing attacks? More like it, but I honestly can't see it being much of a difference from regular Falz (just now with even more rage quitting when people don't do it right  )

The event mission looks pretty interesting, about time we had a real event.

The music is good, the gameplay was pretty mediocre imo. Long levels full of flow-breaking battle segments and the fact that you had to play through the same ones four times.

My personal favorite tracks are all from Sonic Adventure 1(It also happens to be my favorite 3D title). Though Sonic Rush has an amazing ost as well. Everything after Sonic Adventure I consider a change in formula and don't really try to compare their qualities.

That's true, Sonic really does have as many playstyles as Mario - it's just Mario's are more obvious what with being soccer and the like.

There's 2-3 kinds of 3D games, 2-3 kinds of 2D games, that racing game, Sonic Heroes is definitely its own type, and then I'm probably missing a few (wasn't there a Sonic Golf or something?)

I definitely love some of them, but loathe others. I feel like the "Sonic is dead" thing only came up because people love some types but hate others, and Sega can only make so many games at a time so will be producing games you may not like for a few releases.

I like sonic heroes level/gameplay more than sonic adventure 2 <_<;;;

not enough speed levels... treasure hunting monotonous, shooting levels... why did you exist...

And I loved how heroes teamed up the orginal three characters all at once and mix/matched gameplay with their abilities... BUT I don't think it needed the 3 other teams either... Cept for chaotix being generally awesome. <_<;;

Sonic Adventure kind of tried to maintain the spirit of the 2D series, though opinions vary even amongst the original trilogy. While a lot of people will swear Sonic 3K is the pinnacle, many people prefer the speedy(And somewhat cheap difficulty) of Sonic 2(My least favorite).

The dichotomy gets pretty interesting when you compare how much more exploration exists in 3K and CD, but the image born from Sonic being a "fast-paced" series spawned great games like Rush Adventure so I can't really complain.

I just think Sonic Adventure 2 was what started the shark jumping. Not so much that I believe Sonic is dead, but thats where they stopped trying to keep the old gameplay style alive. It may as well have been a new series altogether, and most the gamers who only owned a NGC jumped on-board the series here and thought it was THE BEST THING EVAR!

The classic Sonic gameplay in Generations is more like a tacked on afterthought, and Dimps has pretty much just been pumping out mediocre titles since post-Rush. The only ones I look forward to are the major 3D titles headed by Sonic Team.

What I really want from this update are Chao mags. I also already plan to own pretty much every Tails-related object. *hoards meseta* 3:

While I loved the gameplay exhibited by Sonic Heroes, would I be the only out since I did like Sonic Adventure/DX? Sonic Adventure 2 had its moments but it had felt rough at parts expecially around the planned scenes while running, ie. the huge loops in the jungle where I will sometimes invariably fall mid run.

Level design, I would like to see some more levels like the ones shown in Sonic Riders or at least a mention from it.

Anyway, I expect mags to be in the millions if not billions range. It is Sonic after all, so good luck collecting them.

I think sonic 06 music would actually fit well within the lobbies more than any other ones. It's because of the more orchestrated direction of that game in comparison to the more upbeat/rock centric music in other games. In the lobby i prefer lounging, so i'd go for either unleashed's werehog music or some of the tracks in 06

Well, if I didn't like SA2B I wouldn't have even gotten into Sega games to begin with, so that's self-explanatory. I only got SA1 a few years later when the deluxe version came out on the gamecube. I definitely have to say that I prefer SA1, but I still like SA2 for the level settings and the expansion on the Chao. Also, all the little references and easter eggs left in SA2, plus the sheer volume of stuff you could do. They really put a lot of detail and interactivity into the levels back then.

What they made up for in interactivity was placed into music. I haven't gotten into the newer games like Sonic 2000, for reasons already known, but I do like the interations of some songs from it in Generations.

It certainly took Sega a while to place a proper balance between its successful games.

I didn't see any mag cells. I'm just crossing my fingers for them. >.<

Generations, Unleashed and Colors all had sounds that I think would fit in the lobby, but I can't really pick out any "General" song from one of them.

I mostly feel like Adventure 2's level design was a departure from trying to make locations with actual Sonic physics. Instead of really running on walls, buildings, and exploring multi-layered maps that feel like a location, you get an obstacle course floating in space and automated running segments. One of the main things that made Sonic different from other platformers was completely forsaken. I don't think its a bad game, but it was a different direction for the series.

But yeah, I'm with Aya. Sonic 3K, Adventure 1, Generations are my favorites. Special mention of Rush Adventure, and the OSTs for Rush and CD.

Yay for barely staying on-topic ^^;

It seems whenever you bingo, you get certain points, and depending on the points you get certain items? As a part of the anniversary event there's gonna be a Maximum Attack-style event for the bingo lines, it seems. (Sonic Knuckle as a camo if we reach that!)

hahaha is this for real

how the hell did they come to the conclusion that players would rather play bingo to get items than the actual game like every other previous similar event where you reach goals by doing a task (i.e. run a mission/kill stuff/etc.)

on the bright side, they seem to be right about something

They make it sound like the bingo points and the web panel thing are two different things, and the bingo points themselves can be used to get other stuffs. Not sure at all though, can only faintly recall what they said about the bingo system from the last stream. (Exclusive accessories or something.)

This is all that we know currently about the concert:

Come see ARKS Idol Kuna perform live on the main stage in the shopping lobby! Bring your glowsticks and lobby actions and dance along as she performs one of her two hit singles “Our Fighting” and “Everlasting Eternity!” Stick around after the live performance and something else might occur.

A new Kuna song huh, they snuck that in.

I wonder if it's the 'slow' song to counter "Our Fighting" (i.e. what "For Brighter Day" is to "Save This World") or just an Episode 2 theme (i.e. what "Ignite Infinity" is to "Living Universe"). I'd hope for a Let the Winds Blow/Can Still See the Light/With You style number but we're firmly in animu territory with PSO2 so that's pretty much out the window.

It's no secret that biggest playerbase of this game is in the 20-30 age range, i.e. child/teen PSO players who are now adults with independent spending power (gacha).

It's half the reason the game is called PSO2 and not PSU2. At least PSU legitimately tried in its early days with the whole "Phantasy Star V? Phantasy Star Online 2?" stuff and planets/race concept.

When you think that PSO itself was actually reverse branded from 'make a Diablo style internet game' called The Third World with a thin Sci-Fi theme in to a Phantasy Star game it's kind of funny. Especially when Sakai was inadvertently responsible by drawing dragon concept art that helped Naka make the connection.

That's right, IIRC. Phantasy Star Online was never originally intended to be a Phantasy Star game at it's onset. They just wanted an online RPG for the Dreamcast to show off it's internet connectivity... and since PS was still in the Sonic Team stable rather than following Kodama and Yoshida to Overworks, they just slapped a very thin coat of PS paint over top of what they had, developed the rest with some legacy throwbacks (tech names, healing items, some enemies, Falz, etc), and promoted it as a Phantasy Star game.

Searren from PSIII was originally intended to make an appearance, and concept art was drawn up for him, but it was a minor cameo and time constraints killed his part before it even got really worked up. Apparently it wasn't important enough to revive for Ep II or Blue Burst. I think Ep I was a much bigger success than they thought it would be, and it just took on a life of it's own from there. There's a ton of concept art from The Book of Hunters here (http://www.unseen64.net/2008/04/11/pso-concept-beta/).

IIRC PSO v1 sold nearly as much as Sega expected it to but not beyond that. It was the fact players stayed online for lengths of time that surprised them (and the critical acclaim). The game was designed around the idea of twenty days of play per character (hence packaged with the first free month) but no one cared and kept playing and playing. Thus, Ver. 2 released within 6 months.

This is exactly why I felt v2 launched. They didn't think anyone would play PSO nearly that long, because as is pointed out fairly frequently: It had many of the same faults PSO2 does. Horrendous droprates, not enough weapon ability variety, etc. But it was a good framework, which is what people loved.

V2 was them jumping on the money they were missing by not charging a subscription fee. The content itself, for sega, was inconsequential - it was still just their cash cow and people were still going to play it endlessly - but for the players it was helped define a decade's worth of gaming.

Which is why I'm not sure if we should expect much with episode 2. They already have their cash cow set up. The set up is the only time PSO1 ever really changed. They COULD capitalize on opportunities to make more, but this is Sega.

I always wonder how this would've played out (if at all different) had Isao Okawa not passed away. For those who don't know, Okawa was chairman of Sega during the birth of the Dreamcast. He was directly responsible for Sega's push towards console internet gaming and it was he who pretty much forced the Diablo-clone project on to Naka's team as the Sakura Wars, JSR and AM2 etc teams were all busy. There were little to no staff from PSIV still at Sega to boot.

Okawa was determined to make internet console gaming happen, and quite literally funded the entire Dreamcast's first year of Internet service out of his own pocket (it's why it was free) and championed PSO's/Third World's potential. He was then hospitalized during its development and died a few months after its release so he never got to actually witness its critical success, impact or input where it should head.

I actually didn't know anything about the origin of PSO. Interesting information indeed.

I am definitely one of the people brought back from PSO who simply skipped out on PSU. Granted, I gave it a chance and just didn't like it. So in that way the title "PSO2" definitely did its job in obtaining my interest again considering how I felt watching all the early gameplay vids and feeling like some ambition was behind their words.(A different adventure every day you log in? Who doesn't want that!) But I feel like they just had the wrong implementation with all the randomness.

I did play PSP and PS0 but seeing PSU and the late PSP2 content just never come here really just made me think the series was essentially dead in the US to SEGA. If it weren't for friends getting me into PSO2, I don't think I would have bothered with the localization. Now I just hear stories about PSU and PSP and think "If they could even do half the stuff they did in those games PSO2 might actually be worth sticking around for." So I'm not a complete pessimist, as naive and ignorant I may be on the subject.

Okawa was determined to make internet console gaming happen, and quite literally funded the entire Dreamcast's first year of Internet service himself (it's why it was free) and championed PSO's/Third World's potential. He was then hospitalized during its development and died days after its release so he never got to actually witness its critical success, impact or where it should head.

That is also sad to hear. So many things that plagued the Dreamcast's release were quite unfortunate.

Man, that's really unfortunate. Things would have definitely been different, seems like he was a visionary more than a corporate bureaucrat - which is really what the dreamcast and sega in general needed to maintain momentum. Someone to keep doing new and adventurous things, instead of falling back into the ranks and doing "safe" things, which are almost always being done better by someone else.

That explains a lot. Seems like the good people always suddenly pass away.

Looks like a lot a fantastic, awesome stuff. Only thing I'm a bit disappointed with is the lack of Cast parts based on the Mechs in BorderBreak Union.
Oh and IMO, *this* song should be the lobby theme for the June. :P

So, PSU event style where you can keep replaying event missions? If so, this is the time to get myself to level 60 and get my gunner to a high level.

I'm personally waiting for NEW MALE cast parts which last ones were a long time ago. I I'm also waiting for Border Break-ish parts, or Gundam or heck even some Temjin Cast parts from Virtual On. So yes, i am not happy and im pretty sure he/she isnt either... :[

I know, the excessive use of question marks was meant to indicate it was a joke.

I'm not happy either :/ Although, I do understand it. Casts, especially males, are a considerable minority.

That doesn't change the fact that this is a game about mechs. And the vast majority of the update is...Female clothing. I mean, DAMN, not even an outfit to make us look like the mechs? I mean, REALLY???

When it comes to weapon, units and clothes, the list of small icons already has the icons for what will be added in the next part.

If I'm not mistaken, cast parts are only released at the same time as clothes that can only be worn by fleshies (that is, clothes that can be recoloured).
All the clothes in the pre-download are non-recolourable clothes (clothes that can be used by all races), so I guess it's normal that there's no new cast parts this time. x-x

You know, SEGA could make the Mech from Border Break as a uniform like in PSU...

ACTUALLY THAT'S A HORRIBLE IDEA, NEVERMIND!!!

Yeah, I had actually hoped for an all-race mech costume. To think that something like this is too much to ask for... :c

Im more interested in those gold gears at the bottom of the small icons.

But yes I agree its kinda dumb that a mecha update has pretty much nothing but chick clothing. And worst part is that no matter what, with every one of these clothes updates usually theres only like 1 outfit that gets overused and the rest are rarely seen. I wish sega would make some decent cast/man clothes so i wouldnt get a new outfit every 7 or so updates.

They had outfits in PSU that made both fleshies and Casts, both male and female look like the Cougar, i.e, the mech from the game [Border Break]. They could have easily done that here.

They chose not to. In an update focused around said mech game. We get it, sex sells, but this is just stupid.
