Character creation bugged?

I haven't played in forever, but apparently now they've added a new race so everyone gets to make a free 2nd character? But when I try to create a character it just sits there, the menu disappears and I'm just left with the background. It doesn't load or anything.

Run a file check to restore the original files, and only install the normal and large english patch. Make your character, THEN install the story patch.
