View Full Version : Vardha or Varder? What do you call it?

So here's a question that's been making me immensely curious, lately. You know that gigantic gunship in the bowels of the tunnels? The one with hundreds of missiles, numerous machine gun turrets, and a multi-purpose cannon that's fitting for a Circus show? How about it's little brother out in the quarry, that floats around and shoots at you with its much smaller arsenal? Yeah. They were originally considered to be "Big Vader/Vader Soma", until they considered "Big Varder/Varder Soma". However, the people who work on the english patch dubbed them "Big Vardha/Vardha Soma", since they assumed it was supposed to be a reference to the Big Bertha Howitzer, hence the "-ha". What does everyone call it?

Me, personally, I say Varder, mainly because it rolls off the tongue more easily, and the reference is merely an assumption, meaning Vardha is just a fanslation, I guess you can say.

It's officially Big Varder, as indicated by the orchestra CD.

Call it whatever you want though, nobody's going to stop you.

Don't let this become one of those threads where a bunch of picky fanboys bicker over how a name is spelled/pronounced in a language the game was never properly written in and the only differences between the name is like one letter.

DON'T BE THAT THREAD!

You lose points for not having a vader option.

Vardha/Varder, depending on my hand while typing :3

Also, I called Soma Vardha 'Soma' to differentiate between the two.

I call it Vardha since calling it Vader every time gets me mixed up with Dark Vader.

I alternate, and add new versions each time. Really, there are subtleties that are lost when translating a word. They're both probably wrong.

Its name never made much sense to me, but I've been calling it "Varder", to keep the same style as Tranmizer that I met right before it.

And it's interesting that Mizer was the only boss from that area that didn't get called "Tranmizghdra" when the fan patch came out.

No, not gonna be a hurr drama thread. Call these robots what you want, I'm just completely curious about what people refer to them as.

You lose points for not having a vader option.
I didn't know people still called it Vader. '^'

"No, Tranmizer... I am your father."

I still call it Big Vader. Makes for a fun autoword during his intro. "It's time, it's time, it's Vader time."

Definitely Vardha - because that works with the English translator when searching for items to retrieve the correct translation on the Visiphone.
