View Full Version : Running PSO2 on Virtualbox?

I'd like to ask if anyone has tried running PSO2 on Virtualbox?
A quick Google search seems to suggest that it's possible, but the furthest I got is the game crashing on startup, and I've no idea what the problem is.

If anyone's curious why I'm using Virtual box, it's because I'd like to try dragging my alts and friend's characters through TACOs without having to waste electricity using multiple PCs.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm also running it via shared folder, because I don't want to waste 20 gigs making another copy of PSO2.
I don't know if that's what's causing the crashing. Perhaps it doesn't like running two PSO2s at once from the same location.
It already has read/write access because it won't get past Gameguard otherwise.

Tried it on kvm/virtual box/wine. No luck with any of them.

Thanks for the reply.

I did a bit more digging and apparently it won't work on VMs because of GameGuard.
Figures.

Umm... never mind, I got it working.
Turns out I had to install DirectX3D support for Virtualbox.

I guess it doesn't work if you are trying to install it on a VM instead of running off an existing installation?

Edit:
The 3D is all messed up, though.
Models randomly don't show up.
Frame rate is absolute rubbish, too.
It's at minimum settings.

Edit2:
Fixed all the graphical glitches. Not sure what I did.
Only thing I remember doing was upping the cores used by Virtualbox.
Frame rate is still utter garbage (5-8 fps).
The VM eventually crashed.
