Fair warning, You wont really understand SIGN's last episode unless you play the playstation 2 series (infection, mutation, outbreak and quarantine).
Cause between that and the second to last episode the game is kind of inserted there.

After that, you'll start .hack's V2 storyline with .hack//ROOTS. Then, the .hack//G.U. Games happen. However, these were retconned (removed as canon and replaced with something else) and replaced with .hack//TRILOGY, a CGI movie that retells the events of GU.

Next, you'll start .hack's V3 storyline with .hack//LINK. I was part of the team that translated the games, so you can watch it on my Youtubes without gameplay, and with just the story:
