Hey hey peeps :)

I just gave it a go for the first time at a friend's (I don't have a PC up to it here) and I have some questions for you guys!

1) I heard the shop area is quiet (it does seem to be)... where does everybody socialise? I didn't see many people around the shops and in the main ship area I was in.

2) In that area there are these annoying screens everywhere showing game footage. Can I turn them off?

3) Are there no physical player shops like in PSU?

4) Some areas looked a bit bland, like I found a club-like place, but it looked unfinished. None of the tables had chairs or stools around them, and where the bar looked like it should be there was no decoration. Are they still working on stuff like that?

Other than that the game seemed cool enough - I liked the combat itself and appreciated the return of rooms, gestures and so on. Definitely not bad, but those points above did concern me...

Thanks :)

EDIT -- Oh, I was on ship 2 as I heard that's where the English-speaking players tend to go!

People usually stay near the right-side Quest Counter, but left also works.

Yes, on your Video Settings inside the game.(can't check now, since maintenance)

I guess those are intended for parties? I don't know, they sure look like there's some special purpose but Sega completely left them to dust.

I think they made those rooms for us to use for whatever. Of course that doesn't mean they won't do something with them in the future. And no, no physical shops a la PSU. It's all done via the visiphone.

most of the people flock to B-20. (since you're a noob, you're advised not to go in here as you won't be able to get anyone play with you. this block is made for end game players, though you'll still be finding someone with a low level.)

1) you'll find everyone in the lobby at the left side. (there are some others who are flocking to some other places as well)

2) sure you can, in the options. . . I forgot which but yeah, you can turn them off.

3) no MMORPG is complete without player shops, though you need premium to sell stuff, you can buy stuff freely.

In the Ship 02 EN Community there is a roleplay community that tends to meet in Block 030. They use the red one of those lounges rather frequently.

Everyone hangs out downstairs, by the mission gate. Check any active block, and there will be a bunch of people there. B20 is the most popular, though for some reason it's gained a stigma lately.

2) In that area there are these annoying screens everywhere showing game footage. Can I turn them off?

You can turn off their sound in the sound menu in options. It should be the last option. Experiment with the levels next to one of the videos to test it out, but keep in mind that other events may be muted too (such as Kuna's concerts)

3) Are there no physical player shops like in PSU?

Nope. The shops are all menu based. It saves on load time.

4) Some areas looked a bit bland, like I found a club-like place, but it looked unfinished. None of the tables had chairs or stools around them, and where the bar looked like it should be there was no decoration. Are they still working on stuff like that?

As far as I know, they aren't working on anything. The ship is exactly how it was when it first started. You can find more interesting versions of that in team ships, if you're interested.

EDIT -- Oh, I was on ship 2 as I heard that's where the English-speaking players tend to go!

Yep. Most of PSOW is on ship 2. Beforehand, we used to congregate in B20. But its lost its popularity lately. Still, if you want to get into a conversation, you'll have the easiest time starting one there.

There are those doors with green barriers. So there may be a chance that they may expand on the rooms for future features.

Excuse me but, b20 is NOT for endgame players.

B20 is for players of all levels.

Most players on this block aren't 65/65, and it's NOT recommended to do EQ's in this block. Instead go to the blocks designated for the difficulty you are looking to do the EQ on.
(B20 has players of all levels and many socializers / lobbyrats, so doing EQ's on b20 is usually not a good idea as fewer players will be there to do the EQ on the difficulty you're looking to do it on than if you go to a block dedicated to that difficulty level).

B20 is a good place to look for a team to join, as most teams (even the leetist teams) have a couple members who hang there for recruiting purposes even if most of their team meets on a specific "team" block).

A lot of the elitist end game players avoid b20, mostly because of all the chat spam and SA spamming.

It's a good place to ask questions, as (most) players will be able to answer your questions, some give good advice some give horrible advice, so don't take everyone at their word, do your own research, or ask here on pso world. Most people give good answers on pso world.

In order to not confuse the OP about above:

B20 is a SH block, meaning it is intended for people playing in SH difficulty. But it is the de facto english-speaking community block(even though people will play at other blocks too), so people will be of varying levels there, being a good place to find someone your own level to do some quest.

It is also the "chat" block. You will notice people go in there and either AFK or chat all day long, as soon as an EQ is announced people rush to the other blocks.

1) I heard the shop area is quiet (it does seem to be)... where does everybody socialise? I didn't see many people around the shops and in the main ship area I was in.

Because it's kinda rude to have private chats in populated public places.
Imagine how much of a mess it would be if everyone's private conversations overlapped.

People usually go to specific blocks, areas or private rooms for doing that.
Or they use whisper/team/party chat. Chat features are simple and archaic though.
If you're after English-speakers, B20 is your best bet.
But don't expect them all to be nice.

2) In that area there are these annoying screens everywhere showing game footage. Can I turn them off?
It's in the startup options somewhere. "Disable in-game video" or something like that.

3) Are there no physical player shops like in PSU?
No. Most stuff in PSO2 is accessed via the same few poorly designed menus.

4) Some areas looked a bit bland, like I found a club-like place, but it looked unfinished. None of the tables had chairs or stools around them, and where the bar looked like it should be there was no decoration. Are they still working on stuff like that?

Those areas have always been like that, and always will.
Team room has some places to sit, but generally there aren't many things to interact with.
If your team wastes time doing crappy drop-rate quests, you can temporarily rent a team room with a theme.
They usually have a few more things to interact with.
Private rooms are customizable and have some things to interact with, but they are often not very high quality (ie. you can walk through solid objects).

The environments in general are pretty bland, and often lack personality, meaning and atmosphere. It's a common complaint.
Don't expect anything particularly immersive.

Seabed (the latest area) is probably the best looking environment at the moment.
But its map design is kinda irritating to navigate (lots of dead-end alleyway paths set within large intertwining mazes).

Other than that the game seemed cool enough - I liked the combat itself and appreciated the return of rooms, gestures and so on. Definitely not bad, but those points above did concern me...

It seems cool at first, but most people get tired of it after a while.
There isn't really much content outside of the combat and dressing up.
I guess it's a pretty decent game if you can't find any alternatives to better satiate your preferences. Just don't expect too much from it.

^Correct, thanks!

Noob is not the same as newb. (Newb is just a player who's new to the game)

A noob is a player who dies to rappies, yolo's dark falz core, and runs out of time on time attacks.

It seems that most people dont know about the function of private meeting room.

The club-like meeting room is a special area where none of the white chats would be heard outside. If you wanna have a meeting/gathering with your friends from different teams, but do not want disturbing the other players around, the private meeting room is a good choice.

I gave the game another good go today!

I must say I was enjoying it much more :)

I did some quests, explored the Gate and Shop areas, found lots of items, used discs, messed around with different weapons, put a bed and 2 plants in my room, found the busier blocks and joined some teams and stuff... just generally got more stuck in. Sold lots of stuff I found too to get some more meseta!

Impressions at this point? ... I still miss the lack of shops, and I still miss the variety of social places in Universe. But... I am thoroughly enjoying the game and intend to put a games machine together soon to play it and maybe a couple of other games too!

I actually won that bed I put in my room on one of those scratch card things!

I'm really liking the combat mechanics, sleek graphical style, return of rooms, flexible pay structure, etc.

I can't work out yet though if the $~8.50 charge for a better room is monthly or one-off? And... what does it do to your room? o.O

I'll look into that! :)

EDIT -- Wait... it says the My Room charge is monthly and... seems to imply it's just to have a room at all! Maybe this info is out-of-date (I'm getting it from a thread on here) because I already got a room for free o.O

its to have a bigger room, you can also get free room tickets from FUN scratch. IF you decide to pay for a monthly service i highly recommend the premium(though i would wait till you are a higher level first) premium comes with a shop and a full size room along with some other perks like access to the premium player space in blocks allowing you to get into otherwise full blocks and more crafting slots

anyway until you find yourself a good team b20 really is your best bet unless you can speak Japanese, i would still go a level appropriate block during EQs or if you cant find anyone in your difficulty in b20 but for general use b20 is best for newbies

be aware, that B-20 is also full of toxic players.

Ok cool :)

Does premium have better room features than just paying for My Room? Thing is like, premium is £10/month but room-only is £5/month so that adds up, and it fleshes out the social experience a bit. Can't I just make my room bigger in other ways, though?

WildarmsRE5

Premium has access to MyShop/MyRoom and some other handy stuff. basically, all in one package.
