Yes, trust me you won't regret it. Zelda is on the back burner right now because I can't stop leveling and rappy hunting and rare hunting. Offline, or online, this game just doesn't get old. Seriously.

Well...you went to a PSO forum to ask if you should buy PSO. I'd pity the fool that walks in here and can seriously justify not buying PSO.
...and don't try doing that, either!

think about if you can afford to 'waste' hundreds of hours into this one game to level one character to that point where you could beat the last boss (ult olga)...
think about the multiple factor to do that with different classes and different IDs for different findings...
now decide.

If you got the $hineys, then go for it.
The game's that good. And it gets better online with the socializing.

If you have the money, then what are you waiting for? I have had it for about a month now and despite having Zelda: Wind Waker for the past week (received it on launch date), I still find myself playing PSO instead for some reason. There's just so much to do. Didn't even realise until today how fun it was to do certain tasks to receive different special weapons. Been playing for 10 hours today and have had anything to eat yet. It's really that addictive and I am only playing offline. Once I get that hard-to-find broadband modem, I'm gonna make sure I take full advantage of the free month Hunter's License!

This game is pretty hardcore..
being a roleplayer i find some games as such very lacking..this one is offering tons to do and find plus over a 100+ hours of game play for each character you make...what more could a game player want?

Well, asking a group of people that actually enjoy playing game if said game is worth money is really a moot point.
However, I dont really care for PSO anymore so I'll add my two cents.
First, the game is buggy. Both versions. I honestly dont know if Sonic Team opted to make the camera worse...but it is. The security code is violently outdated and old [My friend broke the JP xbox's within 48 hours of its release and since Sonic Team was far too lazy to modify it for US...well there you go]. And outside of some well done Ep. II backgrounds, the graphics aren't much better than the DC version.
Second, the fee is a bit too pricey for what we're getting. A few bucks a month, sure..it'd be worth it. But they don't want a few bucks, they want 8.95. Which in itself isn't a large amount...but in comparison to what you get for a few bucks more on another MMO game...its a rip-off.
Third, the set up both systems require are really silly. On gamecube, you're expected to purchase a modem for one game [as of now]. Assuming you're like me and don't always have access to broadband, you're going to have to dump 70 total for both a bba and modem. Atleast on xbox, the required software [Live] can be used for other things. However, if you dont have atleast access to someone with an active Live account...there's absolutely no way to play it. Bravo on both ends Sonic Team.
Fourth, the offline multiplayer mode is laughable. Completely laughable. Buggy and poorly programmed, it makes you wonder what Sonic Team did with all the US ver.2 fees.
Finally, there's just better stuff out there. On gamecube, there's plently of better Nintendo games out there. Pick up Animal Crossing for goodness sake. And on xbox, hell...Live titles are a-plently now so there's no reason to be shackled to a piss poor nearly three year old Dreamcast port. I recommend RtCW or waiting for Midtown Madness 3.
But there is an upside to PSO. The community is generally really great [especially due to voice chat on the xbox version]. Most of the time, I just find myself going on and using PSO as an interactive chat room. As soon as half of my current PSO buddies jump ship, the game is retired to shelf.
