On a serious note, I have been hearing that whoever did it is probably using some expensive rentals, so, maybe it's someone with lots of money...

If it were an English-speaker mad about no English server, they'd be better off just playing the JP server with the patch which is well-done and easily available(or going for Asiasoft for banning foreign IPs).

If it were a SEA player mad about getting IP banned, then they would have been better off doing it to Asiasoft for demanding the ban, but maybe the person doesn't know...

If it were a big game company, well I don't know, but they'd face really bad consequences for their business if it were found out... and I don't think a legit game company would risk that much.

If it were a Chinese player, well... I don't really know about anything there, if they have a server or can play TW version or not, so I can't say. I have met 2 Chinese-speaking people in JP PSO2, though(but one from HK, dunno if that counts)...

If it were a Japanese player trying to frame foreigners, they must be on ship 2, but then why wouldn't they just buy a ship transfer when it's probably cheaper than to DDOS? They themselves would lose out on playing time, unless they were already banned.

Can't really tell who did it at this point, because there's not enough information or evidence.

You're contradicting yourself.
First you ask people to elaborate on the identity of the DDOSer but then proceed on admitting that basically, we have no clue.
I'm actually close to thinking that the thread itself was never meant to trigger a serious discussion or debate at all but rather laugh about the whole deal.

Right now, it's impossible to even begin to nail it down by ourselves.

Though, it's absolutely not impossible to track down who did it. You just have to raise your eyes from the logs and start observing underground internet and the world around you.
Best crackers out there were rarely compromised by 133t NSA pinpointing servers around the world till they found a home on some big screen while frenetically striking keyboards. Most of the time, social engineering, basic HUMINT.
But yeah, it won't be easy.
