UPDATE NOTICE 14:00 JST

http://pso2.jp/players/news/?id=3903

The contents of the update that you may not even see are: new lobby, new quest, XQ levels 61-70, new FUN Scratch, new AC Scratch, 1st round of ARKS Ship Tournament with Arkuma.

UPDATE 13:30 JST

As promised, Sega has posted a notice about the newest update. The update has been available since 13:15. (http://pso2.jp/players/news/?id=3875) No further announcements, such as anything about the connectivity issues, or the contents of the update, have been made. According to the twitter post (https://twitter.com/sega_pso2/status/484193886818938881), the update is 141 MB in size.

ORIGINAL POST

The long awaited maintenance has finally started (https://twitter.com/sega_pso2/status/484155151695880192) (probably; I couldn't connect to the game in the first place, so it's not like I can tell), and will last at least 6 hours, according to Sega. We, obviously, have high expectations of this maintenance, since it could decide whether we'll be able to freely play the game again.

The most optimistic outcome will be Sega lifting, or otherwise fixing, whatever is this thing that prevents us from playing (definitely not an IP block, please don't panic). If that happens, it will mean that we won't need to keep our VPNs ready, since, obviously, Sega took steps to allow us back. So, at the very least, they don't mind us playing.

If this problem doesn't go away in 6 hours, then everything will be looking much worse. Resuming AC services and restarting the countdown on AC items means that they are back in business. And you still being unable to connect will mean that you are not a part of that business anymore. Reasons for that may vary - obviously, it could be the backbone thing, but it just as easily can mean an unlifted IP block. You could still wait, and hope for the best, but, if Sega doesn't make any official statement, there will be no estimated time frame in which everything will suddenly get better. In that case, considering using a VPN may be your only real choice.

Unlike their usual practice of releasing update info immediately after the maintenance started, Sega is supposed to tell us about it at 14:00 JST, 3 hours after the maintenance began. On their site, obviously. Don't know what will they be doing for those three hours, since there is no notice about anything like a site maintenance, nor do I know what will be posted there (aside from the new AC and FUN Scratches, and campaigns), but, if you still can't access the player's site by then, well, take that as you will.

I'm just curious how they could fix the issue with a maintenance, since the launcher won't even start up (Error 107), and you kind of need that to get an update.

Unless we just use the Tweaker, I guess.

There wasn't any word on error 249, but it's supposed to be connected to error 107. Who knows, though, since, without Sega, we don't really have any official source to comment on this.

Speaking of error 107, since we all like panic and fearmongering, I recently (about 10 minutes ago) tried speeding up my connection with the wonderful Opera Turbo feature. Now, Opera uses its own servers to streamline content for you. They load a page, then send a much lower-quality one to you, putting less stress on your bandwidth. And, well, according to Opera, a Sanic version of player's site looks like this:

http://i.imgur.com/wlmFD36.png

I may be wrong, but this doesn't look like a backbone issue. The server clearly was reached, and even sent me a rude reply.

But on a serious note; have you ever thought to write yourself off as an outlier? I dont think I've seen anyone with your symptoms, unless I'm blind.

EDIT: Also, port 80 is the generic http internet port.

pso2.jp:80 is the same as pso2.jp.

This means that opera's servers couldnt reach japan either, at least to me.

so..

I think they used to say that before every mantenance. I'll go see if they keep old maintenance notes.

EDIT: Yes, just checked two old maintenance announcements, and they also have 「※メンテナンス終了告知があるまでは、ゲームサーバーへの接続を行わないでください。」. So, it's a standard message. Makes sense, since servers are down anyway.

Only thing that I can remember is THIS (http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219726), and it happened way before the DDoS.

However, oddball or not, but I did experience something just now. Usually, trying to reach the player's site without a proxy would give me the "Connection timed out" error. After the maintenance has started, however, I get "Server not found" instead. Which only really means that there is a chance that Sega did something. No idea what it was, good or bad, but it seems like there is at least some sort of a development. Okay, I'm an idiot. I typed "www." in front if the url for some reason, so of course server was not found. Guess nothing happened, then!

Also if you have tweaker you can patch now.

My ISP is Electronic Box, a Videotron re-seller (Montreal area in Quebec). This would mean that cable users in Quebec and Ontario should be OK (in theory) since we all pretty run on the same backbone.

Also, I can update via the game client (I cancelled it) and via the Tweaker :)

Go ahead and start packin ur bags to Japan. That or go back to crying at Segac at that western release. Just a thought, anyone having trouble with error 107 should update with the tweaker, which should update the regular launcher. Google translate is for YOU, YOOOOOUUU, to better understand what is being said. Not to necessarily translate what you mean into another language. People are paid a dollar more based on language for a reason. If google did it all successfully, that payment would be obsolete, don't you think? I've talked with Japanese that spoke enough english, and it is MUCH different from translate. Don't put so much faith into a lack luster program. Programmed are made in DIFFERENT languages, expecting a simple thing like google to make the difference is ignorance. It's gives the idea of the message if you're skilled to putting the puzzles together, but otherwise, it's not going to make your text sound like everyday MODERN Japanese. Please, refrain from thinking so.

Now I can't connect to pso2.jp ._.

I was looking every page of the site fine like 1 hour ago... :/

Based around how some people react here, you must wonder how they function when something goes wrong IRL. The Doom and Gloom is strong here.

Well with the way regression and videogame addiction work for most people.

They play PSO2 when something goes wrong to avoid or neglecttake their mind off their real problems.

So.....

New players that haven't grown to hate this game yet, and people with stockholm syndrome are bound to suffer.

Tried tracing the route to pso2.jp site, and, interestingly, I stopped getting 4 connection timeouts in a row before reaching the servers that are right as PSO2's doorstep.

Still can't connect to the game site or the download servers, of course. But, there is a chance that they are trying to help instead of IP banning everybody's ass. I'm not exactly betting on it, but it is there.

Yeah, because the amount of assumptions from Day 1 have been extremely negative with no attempt to even see another's perspective. How many times have people who expressed optimism been crushed entirely without even a thought?

I'm not above it for sure, but I recognize it for what it is.

Is it naive to believe that things will get better from here given the circumstances? Sure, but who has the right to stop them from believing? To be brutally honest I don't think things are gonna get better but damned if I give up before seeing the end.

Either way, we'll know soon enough. I'm done, let it rain.

Sorry to worry you more but I can confirm this to be the case as well. The google translate link to the AC scratch page doesn't even show the pics. In any case, I'll wait until the servers go up to see if anything wrong happened during maintenance.

Let's not forget that the only thing this clears up is whether there was an IP ban or not, since the situation seems to be the same as before, it still rests in our providers allowing access to Sega once again, which as was mentioned before, may take at least a month.

I highly doubt they'd be slow on the uptake if it was really PSO2 being blocked due to cyber attacks.

There was zero evidence to back the opposite, though, which didn't stop people from claiming that it's the only answer, and anyone who disagrees went mad in panic. In fact, tweaker still says that there is no IP ban and links to reddit, and that's where some people get all their news from.

Well really, the official source hasn't said anything. The people running the Tweaker are trying to stay neutral on it, intelligently so, to avoid *causing* people to freak out. Up until now we haven't had much reason to believe it was honestly a purposeful thing. Even still, they technically haven't made any claims which is odd since before they made a very big deal when they talked about IP blocks for SEA.

Of course, they horribly neglect the non "Asian master race" fanbase to begin with. I wouldn't be that surprised at this point if given the choice they came out with PSO2 Kim Jong Un edition before even an update on the Western localisations.

We've probably been cock blocked, who knows? maybe people in sega.jp are looking at this site as we speak, they see our ability to adapt, like the PZ method of playing the game and using free VPNs to get around other problems, and the effects of the maintenance are a result of us not willing to let some stupid ass IP block, unstable servers, ISPs, backbone providers, or the anti-gaijin side effects of recent server maintenance get in the way of playing PSO2/waifu simulator/chatroom with tons of extra features 2: electric boogaloo/our favorite game.
