TD3 was a step in the right direction, but this is Ultimate. Its got to be punishing.

If mobs don't have actual superarmor and are still easily one-shotted by a pure DPS class, all is lost.

Also make it impossible for bosses to get stun-locked.

As long as there are lasers involved, everything will be fine. I just hope they don't gate Ultimate a la AQ capsule requirements because that would suck more ass than is even possible to make a simile for.

I do have the feeling they will be gated which would be a shame. Especially if handled like XQs or SHAQs that never seem to drop caps for me.

Enemies need more moves with Super Armor imo. It's a fair compromise since then can still be dodged but you can't stun them out of it nine times out of ten like most mobs.

Unfortunately because they call it "Ultimate Quests" and not "Ultimate Difficulty" (where they just tack it on everywhere right after SH and be done with it) I expect them to do something tedious and unfun just to get in.

You have to deal with the crybabies (not calling you a crybaby, Kon). Remember Fatty nerf? Remember Shark nerf? Remember when Turtle got nerf? Then they threw in some more sub boss nerfs. Yep, the crybabies are going to kill Ultimate Mode. It's called Ultimate but everything ultimate about Ultimate will get patched out after release.

They should penalize idling in the lobby for long periods of time while they're at it. While they're swinging thr nerf bat blindfolded..

Well it varies

Acklepusses were kind of ridiculous if you were in just a 4 player party and like 20 spawned. All they had to do was reduce the spawn count or reduce how frequently they spammed the dash, but they brought down the hammer hard. Now they're kind of a joke.

Rough Wave Org Blans were great in 12 player MPAs, but awful in small groups too. They felt just right in a full EQ though, and I wish they'd raise enemy HP for MPAs based on nearby players because of how that was.

Krabs were just HP walls, which are pretty terrible design. The solution to that was easy though: 1x damage on core, shells up less often and/or for less time, in lieu of walking and attacking more. The core being a 2x weak point was too much while the body resisted damage.

Anyway for ultimate they should have 50% elemental resistances for all but 2-3 elements, then 1-2 of those remaining elements should take 1x damage and 1-2 should be weaknesses. Then add a skill to raise enemy weakness by some small amount to give them more weaknesses. That skill should go to Techer. Hooray Techer!

Also they should inflict SEs more often, and they should look really cool (so far so good on this last one).

This is more than enough to wipe out most current players if they have pso1 mechanics. Would be especially fun to see cocky players with no pso1 experience in that situation.

Sure, scaling health would be ideal. That'd go a long way. But I'm still of the opinion that the enemies don't have enough HP, in general. That just might be me, but it's how I feel.

PSO2 will NEVER be difficult in terms of enemy strength. With all the tools you have and just the way the game is designed there's no way for anything to ever be a true challenge. This isn't Devil May Cry, it's not Ninja Gaiden, it's not going to be a hard game.

They could try scaling bosses the way they do some world bosses in GW2. And since mpas are limited to 12 they wont get super 1 atk. spammed into the ground in 15 seconds.

I think a lot of the problem with previous complaints about difficulty was due to it just being a shock to the system. Sega needs to stick by their guns instead of running in with the nerf hammer the second players complain. People are going to complain when you do anything. And the majority isn't always right. People sometimes want something but actually need something else. It's something sega has to keep in mind.

I have hopes for Ultimate becuase sega seems to be building. Mining base is a perfect example of setting the bar higher slowly. If they released mining base despair straight out of the gate instead of defense. People would be SCREAMING for the nerf hammer. Instead they slowly increased the difficulty and added more layers as players became familiar with the event. I remember when 1 was considered to be challenging now it's almost as casual as any other EQ.

I also feel that EQ and AQ got a bad rap because sega released it and then increased the level cap until irrelevance. Unfortunately this doesn't excuse the Super hard/ level 70 mobs floors being as easy as they are. However that has more to do with the current state of the game and balance Pv# then it does with the events thsemselves. Taking on 3 rare bosses at once should be extreme. Not a joke. Super hard should be just that, instead of mobs hitting slightly harder and just running up to you faster just to take forever to actually attack/wind up their attacks like always.(boss fighting patterns changing withstanding.)

I think another problem is the userbase is casual whether you like to admit it or not,how else could you explain the difficulty up till now?

I do agree that SEGA should listen to the fans but also know when to put their foot down when they have to.It's like what happened to Mortal Kombat 9,Netherrealm Studios listened to the fans way too much and in the end the game was patched too much and the balance was completely ruined.

You know what happens to games that are made really difficult?

Look at Strike Vector. The game is pretty much completely dead now because it's such a hard game to play.

People who want their edge of the seat Dark Souls lunatic+ game mode shouldn't be looking at PSO2 for that kind of enjoyment, which is a game that gravitates towards players being able to instantly kill bosses and mass kill any other mobs instantly while even solo your player is basically a walking shredder demolishing paper as it appears.

Hah, I gave up on the whole difficulty thing a long time ago, yet I'll still bitch about it on here when I feel like it. The business me would probably keep it casual for more players = more money, but the player me would want it hard. I wouldn't hold ur breath for Ultimate either, though I could be entirely wrong.

Then again, the other problem is things can be really hard at first in games, but once you do it a couple times, its ez. Reminds me of FFXI. Therefore, if I want a challenging battle, I'll probably just play a console rpg that has difficulty modes like the tales games (Gotta love graces) and pso2 when I'm bored. Still going to complain about PSO2 and all its issues cuz I can.

As for the new content, hey those areas look really nice. Nice enough to jump back on and do a couple runs. However, as far as the mobs go and difficulty, I'm not looking or expecting anything shocking. Like shocking where its like PSO/PSU and say oMG, I need a party for once!

I think those who can't let it go (difficulty thing) needs to listen to that Boyz II Men song Can't let her go. Either that or turn into a Super Saiyan and fly to PSO2 HQ and change the difficulty yourself. I heard Segac has a special "switch" you can change that makes all mobs super difficult and changes them to a really aggressive attack pattern. I heard its hidden somewhere in Sakai's office. Good luck finding it, but with your Super Saiyan powers, you should be able to uncover it.

Let's be honest, those shark wolves weren't exactly fair, or even classified as actual difficulty. They hit stun in literal succession back then. You get hit by one in a pack, you will die to the rest. I thought we were under an agreement that stunlocks to death =/= fun or challenging.

They were pretty bad, and hyper aggressive with their flip attack during the day on VH.

I don't mind enemies not standing there as they spawn, giving you 3 seconds to kill them before they move, but they seamlessly stunlocked you to death in a group if one hit you every time. I'm not kidding.

I mean, all monster AI basically converges to striking to a single point on the map - wherever you were when it decided to run some function to target that area. Some monsters probably move off of this single spot a little based on your own arrow keys and some target leading, but as long as you constantly move almost nothing can touch you.

All it takes to dodge 50 bullets is to side step them.

Things get harder if you are surrounded but eh you can just wipe everything with normal attack anyway so who care about difficulty right.

Being a seperate quest type has its benefit. It makes it so if it's too difficult it can be dubbed as due the the nature of the quest type vs if it were an extension of free missions it would force more casual players to trudge through the mpa content as it would be where large masses were (and the easiest for them since 12 people).

It could force you to have 4 man parties instead of 12 man mpas so that adds difficulty. Lastly, it could differentiate itself from the other quest types offering a new mode of play with new rules (i personally think its going to emulate pso 1 areas in a way using pso2 enemies which is why I think they brought hidelts back and the forest boss is a dragon type . So something like caves being bal rodos or something to emulate de rol le in caves haha). Then later on, they could expand the other quest types if they so choose and they said later SOME eqs will have ultimate forms which makes me hopeful because it doesn't seem like a copy paste difficulty affair of SH just yet or else I feel like it would simply be a difficulty and not a quest.

It might require something (capsule or pass), but i seriously doubt it will be daily and honestly I don't think it will be gated by things like that at all because in theory if its difficult enough, the difficulty will gate off the rares on its own. My hunch is it will be more like pso 1 missions like heat sword or lost ice spinner. Stuff like that. So I guess more darker den like is what I honestly think or at least hope. Let's hope its like that.

Lets hope its hard! It'd be a disgrace to pso 1 if it were too easy and I think they held off calling it that for a reason (coulda called SH ultimate but took the time to do it at least half right by the changes of enemy and area so far. Bring my megid back!)

They didn't specify yet, but it's talked about in this video, hopefully they'll give more information at the live broadcast on 9/21
Basicly, there will be a new Min damage for rare(7~11?)
It won't be as strong as the current default 90~100% damage variance, but will be better then the current 45 or is it 55%~100% damage variance

Rares give 90%, nonrares give 0%. Dex raises nonrare min damage, caps at 90%.

Fake rares like Red/Blue or crafting also give 0%.

But I don't think it's possible to know how a lower guaranteed minimum would stack with Dex. If rares gave 75% instead, would Dex easily bring it to 90% anyway so there's no change, or would it replace anything lower with 75%?

Either way Dex is still worthless since Atk is a better way to increase average damage, and crit is a better way to decrease variance so long as you're a Fighter main.

A quick go through google translate and some gibberish skills make me understand that they're basically going to increase the minimum damage on crafted weapons. Because the high damage variance hurts crafting a lot (yeah no kidding). It won't be on the same level as normal rare weapons. No mention of nerfing current rare variance (but I could be wrong).

As for the 45% vs. 0% minimum damage, I didn't actually test for a lower bound, but 45% is what you'd have in effect for most cases of trying with a basic crafting weapon or a non-rare without explicitly trying to have as high a weapon attack as possible with as low DEX as possible. I had around 50% just swinging around a 6* I picked up off the floor and +10'd.

To actually see if there's a floor, you'd need to do something ridiculous like take a Newman (lowest racial DEX) to level 50 without picking a subclass, as either HU for swords or FO for rods, and then do testing with a +10 crafted weapon as strong as equippable.

You'd have even less DEX than a SH Exploration boss, so you'd be able to test if it can go negative!

So, who wants to do science for me?

Why is it everyone's says that casual means they don't want difficult. I may of missed a train to the rest of society somewhere. If I say I am casual(And I have played things casually before and consider myself a hardcore casual, plays like a hardcore as a casual mentality.) I want to do things fun and exciting but when it comes to clearing them or getting items. I don't want to feel like I put in 40 hours a week(a full time job) and walked away with essentially nothing. If I walk away with a good time, exp OR items. I am happy, I just don't want to put in a 40 hour week to get any semblance of game out of it for no fun at all.

Does casual really mean push this button yay 12* these days?

Water areas have always been, like, my thing. I liked the water temple in every Zelda game. Ever. Yes, even that one. Beach maps? Underwater maps? River maps? All awesome.

I can count the water areas I dislike on one hand.

The music in the october trailer is amazing, but it doesn't quite sounds like Kobayashi's style. Also either I'm insane or there seem to be some traces of Moatoob BGM there… So it may be Fukuyama or even Tokoi. If the latter is correct, Episode 3 just got better than I ever hoped. :D

Yeah, I've been saying since coast came out that bal rodos should randomly spawn on the edge of watery areas in free fields and be able to be defeated (like, you know, almost every other boss in the game). It looks like they're doing exactly that; I just hope it spawns in coast too.

The only thing I know about it is that the same person who designed the characters in it did the character designs in Madoka.

People are only assuming it's going to have some sort of cost because of how they've treated other quests. It's best to prepare for the worst though.

Those are fine as they are. They don't have any kind of variety or sense to their attacks (when they do attack, that is), so it wouldn't be fun to fight against them if their HP was buffed. It would be same as it's now, but much slower, and so - much more boring.

Based on SEGA's past trends in terms of "creating difficulty" I don't think Ultimate will be any more than more HP, more damage, and maybe some different attack animations.

If SEGA really wanted to add difficulty and make things more interesting, they'd make monsters use their unused attacks more and especially reduce the amount of downtime they have either from fucking around not attacking as part of their idle animation or from every monster's huge vulnerability to being stunned.

It's El Dagans, and they only do it when a breeada is doing that thing when it buzzes around at low health. That's been in the game since beta. Normal dagans just spit at you.

Well, we've gotten some slightly armored pieces, plus recoded male outfits for females. It's more so a hope that they recode the male outfit from the October scratch, and a few others.

Really, they need to recode more male outfits. ._.;;;

Agreed. But, as was said; not particularly likely to happen, which is unfortunate. They could design nice pieces of armor for females if they tried, but that's not where the money lies.

If every enemy has hyper armor all the time I think it would be more annoying than difficult. :/

I agree about not being able to stunlock bosses though.
It'd be interesting if it actually forced us to use things that can knock up or stun. Break the DPS meta, and actually have to use stuns or knockdowns for safety. Though doing that for all the enemies would still be kinda silly.

That Ultimate looks amazing. That's the only thing I really care about.

Also, I share the sentiment that using swimsuits and such in non coast areas looks out of place, but it doesn't hurt my immersion, because why use armor when you have permanent personal forcefields that can stop even strongest attacks?

Actually, it was the first outfit for female Dewmans in that game (Sizustar shared the concept art image a page or so back), and was going to serve as the starter/default outfit, until they figured it was a bit too racy to start with, and instead settled on the Flor Victoria.

It was later added to JP PSU after PSP2i had been out for some time.

I love Orakio Pareo! It's a great look for agile characters - unrestrictive and seems comfortable to wear. Cosplayable even.

Luna Prophecy on the other hand... ouch the chafing, and can those strings even hold together with all the fancy movements in PAs? What if it rides up when you kick? :no:

But at least theres options from hyper-tame to hyper-sexualized and everything in between.

Is Nyau meant to summon bosses at the moment? I've seen Nyau loads of times and never had anything happen after. I know it was said when Nyau was added that it'd summon bosses but I've never actually seen it happen.

At the minute I just see it as free EXP.

When you defeat Nyau, there is a chance for Nyaru to "summon" a rare boss when it run away, a rare boss will get caught in it's teleporting away.

He can sometimes. I've seen it maybe once. And it was just like a normal Ragne or something that could have spawned on its own.

I thought it was supposed to be a rare boss every time he showed up, but it just rarely spawns a boss (maybe it could be the rare variant, who knows?).

I've gotten Nyau to summon two Haze Draals compared to the 10+ times I've kicked him around. I'm always amused by the cartoony beatdown afterwards.

Now I don't know the story behind Ep3 and what's going down on Harukotan, but uh, if the black tribe has that kind of stuff at their disposal, well the whites are pretty screwed huh?

The super giant thing is probably an EQ though.

I also love how the players are getting wrecked in the video to stress a point.

Physically, it looks identical to the Magatsu, from what can be seen of it. When it appears, it makes the same noise the Magatsu make in the trailer.

The black and white color scheme is a huge part of planet Harukotan's theme. When the titan descends from the sky (/from the 'heavens'), it banishes the dark with light.
My guess is that both of the two factions have a sealed titan at their disposal, which might or might not be seen as their respective God. I expect them to duke it out, and hopefully in a flashy CGI cutscene.
