I am asking this question because I am using a 50% light weapon, and I hit weak to light darkers for the same as I do anything that isin't weak to light, whats going on here? do I need a stance to actually get a damage bonus as a melee? Because for my weap being 50% light there should be a pretty noticable diff. my speed rain does 2000 a hit to pretty much anything doesn't matter if its light weak or not. If weak to light was working atm shouldn't I be doing 3000/hit to darkers? This only seems to be an issue with physical attacks from ranger and melee.

50% element means you get +50% of your weapons attack in that element. so if you have a 1000 attack weapon with 50% light you have a weapon with 1000 attack and 500 additional light element based attack. that additional 500 attack works on everything, not just whats weak to it. additionally only that 500 attack gets a bonus from elemental weakness.

its not a multiplier its additional attack of that element.

Assuming you have a 1000 satk weapon with 50% light, you have the equivalent of 1000 elementless attack and 500 light attack. During the calculation of elemental weaknesses, only the 500 light attack undergoes element advantage modifications of 1.2x. Hence against darkers, it would become 1000 elementless attack, and 600 light attack, which is realistically a 100/1500 = 8.33% increase in damage, or even less if you account in base character stats.

Having 50 element is still important, it just means you don't necessarily have to match the weapon's element with the enemy's weakness.
