View Full Version : Is the armor /character design in this game like a traditional JRPG?

By that I mean can you actually play a female character without being almost forced to wear armor that shows off partial cleavage or thighs? The last one I played is Rappelz, and just about every armor in that game is feminized ridiculously, partially exposing a female characters breasts, showing off their upper leg skin, and high heels.

What kind of armors/costumes are available for female characters in this game that aren't heavily feminized to appeal to horny teenage boys? I'm hopefully looking to get some type of trench coat, maybe like the Osmium Battleset from Cabal, something like this (on the right):

Anything like this for a Te/Hu?

There are, but they're in the minority. This one might appeal to you if you like trenchcoats: シャールイェーガー

Try looking it up on the visiphone.

I cannot see that picture, but yes, I'm looking for some sort of trench coat costume for a female character, preferrably black with some mix of green (or red or blue or something that goes well with black).

Nothing in the catalog that Sizustar linked caught my eye.

I dunno what it's called, but if it comes in black and looks the same on a female character, THIS might be my ticket:

To be fair Phantasy Star has never been traditional past the "kill XX to gain exp" rule.

SEGA's costume designers should take some notes. Most costumes are made in the spectrum of 'cute'.

Not a picture, that was a name for you to look up and preview on the visiphone. As for the one you later posted, that's Heretic Lord and there's a female version called Heretic Queen or ヘレティッククイーン

And if you don't like the color, I believe that outfit can have the color changed with a color change pass.

Let me make a point here. This picture is of a Tier 3 armor in Rappelz called the Anger Robe:

http://th00.deviantart.net/fs33/PRE/f/2008/236/7/9/Anger_Robe_on_Female_Gaia_by_xdragon.jpg

Roughly 95% of armors in Rappelz have the same trend for female characters: Exposed breasts, showing off thigh skin, and high heels. This is generally what it looks like.

That is the Heretic Queen.

You'll want either the default one [ ヘレティッククイーン ]
or the crimson one [ ヘレティッククイーン紅 ] & then just use a Color Change Pass (you can trade any non-event Rappy Suit to get one Color Change Pass) to change the primary color to black.

The default one has red & black trim/highlights & the crimson one has magenta & yellow trim/highlights.

At the moment, Heretic Queen is a Non-Cast Only outfit.

Edit: I got ninja'd :/

Looks pretty ordinary to me.

Just so you know, outfits aren't class restricted. All that matters for costumes is your race and gender. Some outfits are made with specific classes in mind, but you can wear them as any class.

What does that mean, Non-Cast? A Techer can't wear one?

And Lonely, it looks ordinary because it's Tier 3, which is level 50-80, very low levels. But even all the way up to Tier 7 or 8 (140+ is considered high level), these armors follow the same trend for female characters.

Take a look through there. Has all currently available costumes and if you find a design you like just click the link under it's picture to show the rest of the available colors.

A good portion of the female clothing most likely won't appeal to you though, but there's still some stuff in there you'll probably like.

Outfits only check for your race and gender. Basically, they fall into four different categories.

1) You can wear it regardless of race and gender.
2) You can wear it regardless of race, but you have to match the gender.
3) You can wear it if you're a human/newman/dewman, and if you match the gender.
4) You can only wear it if you're a cast, and if you match the gender.

The last one is for cast parts, which are unusual among outfits in that there are three categories (body/arms/legs), with which you can customize your cast's appearance.

And with the armor, what I meant was, what's the problem with it? I don't see it as skimpy or sexualized at all. Hell, it even looks like it would be pretty fashionable.

Heh... allow me to desensitize (http://tera-online.cc/gallery/castanic-fh/) you a little then.

Trust me... there's worse out there which I will not bring up here, and I'd feel pretty bad about even making you aware of a certain game's existence.

No really, it doesn't look particularly bad even by IRL standards imo.

And what games do you play that do that? Don't get me wrong, my female character actually matches that description (unless you count the hands), but she's dressed as a nun, so it comes with the territory really.

The bubbles are PSNova only, along with the giftwrap.

But yes, there is a point where even I get offended at how hard the try for fanservice $$$ at the cost of taste, which is why I will not name a certain mmo that does that literally everywhere in it.

i find this saying funny because I rarely met any teenage boys that even play as female characters in MMOs.

usually they're playing males and, well, wearing trenchcoats (no offense to you) playing the class with twin katanas and named sephiroth or kirito or something and then yell at you for playing a female character.

also tera is a good game and what ruined it was hardly the fanservice.

+1 for making me laugh.

Also TERA's fanservice was permissable. I actually liked how each race/gender had their own sort of theme that applied to a majority of their armor category (castanic F plate metal bikinis. human f heavy armor being comparatively conservative, but with some skin here and there, etc...).

It's a certain other game that's just offended even me.
