I am what u may call a semi-newbie but the reason for this post is to help people who have just started the game. my first online game i was level 4, took 2 whacks off a hildebear, dies and had all my money stolan, my weapon and being a newbie i didnt save meaning i lost all my invantry. i am now level 22 with a level 55 MAG (Varaha) and myself still in need of a few answers. 1 thing i want to know is what the hell do the stars mean on the weapons? i cannot figure it out at all. please no flaming, there is a point to this post and I will help out as much as i can.

Slightly away from the point my first rare was a varista (unless u include delsabres arm) like many others. i cant wait till i can use it!

1 last thing, go to the bank facing the woman. turn around, press L to get the camara behind u then walk foward and look up. see if u think that 1 of the symbols (its blue) looks like the Atari symbol.

Remember NO FLAMING and dont feel ashamed to post a stupid question.

The stars are how rare an item is.

boy you had a really bad experience your first time. Sorry man... my first time they were giving me money.

1) Stars are basically how good they are. Its really simple it goes like this.
The more stars= the better the item.
So essentially a 4star item is better than a 3 star item and sells for more. I only find this useful when deciding which items NOT to pick up if they only have a few stars.

Sometimes there's a cool item that only has a few stars like five but is kinda cool. Like a berdys which is say only 7 stars, could be special because its a masters berdys, which means it steals experience from enemies but still only has 7 stars, don't want to skip that.
Just pick it up and check its description to see if its good, no real secret. Drop it if its junk.

2) I think that says "AtariLabs". Check out this link.
http://www.atarilabs.com
I don't know why Sega put that in there...

The stars are the rarity (or the uniqueness, as when you start hitting ruins on hard, you could find dozens of varistas).

And at least your first char didn't end up in the way of mine: server crash after a death, accidental mag drop (was trying to feed it and hit up a liiiittle too soon) and hit power, so only what little i had equipped was left. Also, i keep getting my money stolen all the time, don't think it'll stop. My weapon I usually get back though (luckily I can easily get money nowadays).

Weapons with their names in all caps are 'fixed' weapons, meaning they always have the same special attack. Can also find armor like this. Also if the name is in yellow it means it's technically a rare (have a Demon's Blade which is in yellow in name, but not caps). Little off the subject of the stars, just mentioning it. You'd think the stars would tell you how often you're likely to find them, looks more likely to be how hard you have to fight for em in reality.

Thanx for the help guys. Sorry to here about your first experiance online, and i thought mine was bad! although this may sound cowerdly, i usualy join a hard mines game (at the mo, technically 6 levels ahead!) , run in a room, shot each enemy a few times then back out. easy exp! btw i found 2 new mags in the mines on normal in 1 run. beat that!

THIS IS STILL FOR NEBIES TO ASK DUMB QUESTIONS IN PEACE!!!!!

"Piggybacking" is a great way to earn experience and get some nifty items before you'd usually be able to see them.

As long as the people you are piggybacking with don't mind, there's nothing wrong with it. There's a couple of what are probably unspoken 'rules' about piggybacking:

1. Make sure it's okay with the folks first; there's very little more annoying for a player to have to 'babysit' the new guy when they are not up for it. Let's face it, if you're in a game that is that far ahead, the other players will likely be having to use Reversers and Moons on you with startling regularity. That can get real old, real soon, if the players didn't ask for that responsibility. That said, though, most higher-level players don't mind, if asked nicely -- sometimes 'bodyguarding' a younger player is a lot of fun. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

2. Don't be greedy. there's very little chance you'll be able to steal all the room's XP before the other's get a shot, but don't spend your time scouring the chests while the other guys are still fighting. They're doing all the work; they should get first pick. And honestly, you'll be tickled with the stuff they don't take -- while most of the stuff is priceless to a younger character, far beyond what they'd normally see, for the older players it's old hat.

3. Be polite. If you do get killed in the middle of a battle, don't sit there and scream your bloody head off for someone to help you. Chances are, everybody knows you are dead, and assuming you're not leeching off a party that doesn't want you there, they will help you as soon as it's feasible for them. Don't expect them to put themselves in mortal danger to save you immediately (especially in Boss battles). Along the same lines, don't put yourself in obvious suicide position when trying to swipe a little XP here and there. Best weapon for this is a gun (shotguns esp. for rangers), so you can sit in the doorway and take potshots without being a liability to the others. You may only do five or ten damage, but when they go down, you still get a goodly portion of it. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

I only "piggy back" with my reguler team ghost members as when I first joined them my favourite of the crew (Hi-Posi) offered and did a great job. While fighting De Lo Roi (Caves boss) they revived me 4 times but dont mind at all.

Does ne 1 know what to do with delsabres arm?as a ranger (cant remember exact name but its the 1 in my picture profile) is the only MAG i can get after the origional mag kalki? if so ne1 wanna trade as i have veraha all ready, another kalki (what it origionaly evolved from) and a fresh, untouched MAG

They r the newbie questions 4 the day http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

Delsaber's Arm: Save it. It can be fashioned into a powerful sword later in the game (ask over at the Quests board for more info on how).

As to Mags, they will evolve at lvls 10, 35 and 50 (and every five levels beyond, possibly, but that's a specials case). See the little link called "Mag Guide" in the lefthand sidebar for more info.

Som more newbie questions http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

First, where can I find an Inferno Bazooka? It looks REALLY good and the picture shows a level 18 hunter equiped with it meaning I could use it!

Second, with the monogrinders do they just up the power of the equipted weapon at the time or will it mean that whatever weapon I equip from then on will be stronger?

Thanx for the time people but these sort of questions can help any puzzled newbie

Stars mean photon effeciency, the higher the number of stars the better the weapon, armour, and so forth will operate.

"Stars mean rarity" that is only true because weapons with high effeciencies are more rare than the ones with low ratings. However, in theory stars do not denote rarity.

'Grinders only boost the plus of whatever weapon you currently have equipped. Make sure you've equipped the correct one before using the 'grinders!

Also, there is an upper limit on how much a weapon can be ground. The low-power weapons can be ground considerably more than the high-powered weapons can, usually.

Heck, ground high enough, even plain old one- and two-star weapons can pack a punch. "Bessie," my first shotgun, is ground up to it's maximum: a Shot +20. It, however, is +25% versus A.Beast, and +35% versus Dark. As such, on those levels, it can do as much as a Varista or other 'special' weapon. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

When I go looking for rare weapons, I go looking for weapons with a % of 25 or higher -- they seem as rare, and generally, I think a high percentage will help you out better in the long run than simply being a nifty special weapon.

Its time to re-bump this up 'cause I have more questions!

First, does anyone know what to feed Kama? He isnt on the list and all I want to know is the major risers for power, defense, dexterity and mind.

Is there anything that shows you have grindd up a weapon? I have 7 monogrinders, 1 digrinder and 1 trigrinder ready for my VARISTA or M&A6 Vise so will these get a +1/+2/+3 each time its grinded?

Lastly, has anyone else been told they can;t store anymore items in the bank? I was told this today so I took out some crap and sold it.

Thanx for the time, catch you later!

That would be a waste of grinders and "food". If someone knows then why not ask?

Nothing wrong with being a newbie. I started February 2nd, and I remember my first game. Two americans in a server TOTALLY populated by Japanese. The American guys turn to me and say, "Another American!!!, Join us!!!" So I did. Not too far later, a Japanese player with a HUcast (Level 90) came in with his frying pan and let us piggy back all the way to mines1. I had gone up from level 1 to level 9 in that one game, had some nifty items (I found them from monster drops, that japanese guy wasn't giving his stuff away for nothing.)

Anyways, About the Inferno Bazooka:

I found one, it was in Very Hard Ruins2, Dropped by a La Dimenian, and it was in a game created by me (Purplenium) So if that helps, great http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

As for the Mag Kama, thats the mag I have. He's a cool looking thing, ain't he?

I normally fed him dimates, since it raised his attack, and I believe, increased his IQ or Synchro by a few points as well.

If you ever see me, I'd be happy to let you "piggyback" as many levels as you want.

Hey Sheogorath are your Grey_Fox on pso? If so we have fought together a few times and you have had your Level 76 MAG stolan by GRAN SQUALL (?). If you are indeed Grey_Fox we have each others guild cards. Let me know

BTW is 20,000 dear for a M&A6 Vise?

LOL, no, I'm afraid you have me confused with another Grey Fox. My "Third character", an extremely fat, short, Brown haired RAmar called "Grey Fox" is level 10, has a level 31 Mag, and was made last night when I got bored. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_biggrin.gif

My "Main" characters are
Sheogorath (Lvl 100 RAcast, white, tall)
Faydra (Lvl 50 NEweral, White hair, very small)

I think I made a mistake by picking Grey Fox as a name Ugh! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

I would LOVE to, but I go off to work in, well, it's 7:05am by my clock, so that means I have an hour and 25 minutes until I have to get my behind in gear. Just waiting for my Breakfast to get out of the microwave while I sit here. Might eat it while watching the boards for a bit and then go http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

Must make it tough to play with people when you live that far away, right? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_frown.gif

One day Rus...We will.
