Good riddance. Konami was just making more mistakes as time went on. I didn't trust them making MGS games without Kojima, and no other franchises they had interested me beyond Silent Hill and Castlevania. I'll gladly take my MGSV and leave the company behind me.

Also, I would enjoy a spiritual successor to Castlevania. That bit has me excited.

Yep playing many of the good castlvania games were a blast but I kinda felt the game went down hill after dawn of sorrow. portrait of ruins was great but Order of ecclesia could have been better.

the glyhs were a nice game mechanics but i didn't expect it to replace the weapons.

Oh and the P.T. disaster, if you buy a game demo should you not keep the game demo?

*Sigh* Goodbye Gradius, Castlevania, Goemon or Z.O.E. It was nice knowing you. And sadly Konami will be just fine...in Japan. They own health clubs, toys and merch, and alas, mobile games. I think they want to double down on games that cost a fraction to make, but reap more profits.

its not gonna last them long, mobile markets have high chances of dying out quick once more ppl keep copy pasting that game to oblivion.

Sad part is Conami is trying to turn their fanbase who have video game addiction into gambling addicts.
So long Contra... A good game that balanced Challenge and fun. I also like the Metroidvania style in castlevania.

I did not like dawn of sorrow because it look like it lost it's artwork, I almost did not recognize Somaz and his girlfriend.

the weapons in the game were like half there size and the souls were Nerfed.

When I use a weapon call final sword i expect to be at least twice my size.

other than that the game was fun.

Nerd wall of text rant free brief summary on what they did and why they're dying/dead for it? <_>

Or are they just pulling a sega, except worse cuz konami actually had games.

Sort of long story short...
1. They basically are doing anything in their power to remove Hideo Kojima from their company. His name in game credits, his studio name, all been removed from their websites.

2. After MGS5 he will be "removed" entirely from the company [supposidly]

3. Silent Hills (a silent hill game with kojima+De Toro) is cancelled.
4. The preview to that game "P.T." is...
A. Removed from the playshop.
B. No longer downloadable if you had purchased already and lost the file (Once its gone its gone basically)
C. Rumored that they'll remove access of playability as well

4. Began to try and remove footage from youtubers whom commented or critized about these current issues. (Good example: "Superbunnyhop" had his video removed by a false copyright strike but was returned after konami fucked that claim up.)

5. Castlevania creator quits Konami to make Bloodsvania with KickStarter

6. Decided to ditch the Video Game market and focus more on mobile games and gambling games instead (Does that include arcade machines im not sure)

Erretta things konami did that sucked lately.
1. Silent Hill HD did not use original VAs and was shit awful quality
2. Oversaturated franchise useage for mediocre games (See Silent Hill)
3. Cease&Deceased free rythmn game OSU for using KONAMI based music songs for its game (Legit claim but still stinky), probably attacked Stepmania i imagine too
4. Cease&Decisted US homebrewed server to allow American gamers to connect to Japanese E-amusement system to play their Rythmn game arcade games that they paid for (Hardware/Software) to play.
5. MAX(PERIOD).
etc

Basically alot of really poor decisions all around but people tended to forgive them for their super quality IPs they have (Castlevaia, Contra, MGS etc) but since most of those are gone now they're really taking the heat.

wow super sad, just reading the first thing they are doing to Hideo Kojima is awful

talented Man now getting no credit and a terrible leave.

Also trying to make claims on you tube while being know as a dying company isn't going to get much done.

Thank goodness YouTube can see this company has no more power and re-instated the video.

I was done with Konami when they "forgot" about the Suikoden series....I really loved those games. (with the exception of IV)

It's a shame really that they've decided to go that route. Honestly, I'd rather them try new things to stay afloat rather than jump on the whole DLC or micro-transaction market. Companies like Capcom who are putting out half-assed console games, charging for DLC that's already on the disc and releasing an "ultimate version" is what turned me away from this generation of consoles. Even Square-Enix is trying shady ways to get money....Did anyone play or hear of Final Fantasy: All the Bravest?

The real question is why do these companies have no loyalty to these people who gave them so many recognizable characters and games? First Keiji Inafune and Megaman, now Hideo and MG/Silent Hill :-(

Actually, eBay's policy on the sale of consoles and other electronics that could contain personal information got those taken down. Not to mention whenever he was making an MGS game, he runs up quite a bill. I think Konami would rather make profitable games that don't cost an arm and a leg to make.

He has a net worth of 30$ million, not sure if that's enough to fund the game completly but that's more than enough money to back him in a significant way, especially since kogi igarashi only needed 500k to get the project started ^^

Huh, that's definitely more than I expected. I stand corrected. (Though I don't see any sources for that info, so I think we can take it with a grain of salt.)

That being said, Igarashi said that Kickstarter was only for ~10% of his budget to show his publishing partner that there is interest in the game.

If we take him at face value, then his publishing partner would be chipping in $4.5m. Even if Kojima had $30m and was willing to back Iga's game, he's probably not going to spend ~15% of his total net-worth for something like this.

The whole Konami reformation as a mobile only company as opposed to making games on consoles. Suikoden is a title that was created for consoles and will more than likely fall out along with the rest of their IP's as they're being centered around mobile gaming.

Konami is all kinds of crazy, they've been on the "crazy-train" for quite awhile now.

I just deleted a very large wall of text out-lining the various colors of crazy that Konami is, but i realized that i could write a short-story out of Konami's level of crazy.

But honestly, Konami's not all that important, here's whats important, at least in my estimation:

1. What's going to happen to the Fox-engine? will they release it? sell it? hold it hostage?

2. Will they release or sell off their commercial IP's? namely Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Zone of Enders, Castlevania and, well... i don't know, they can keep DDR, haha; theirs too many of those darn games.

3. Will Hideo Kojima, Team Silent, and Team Castlevania band together to create their own game studio?

4. Will Takuya Kozuki get his own Pachinko machine?

Konami has changed. It's no longer about videogames, fanbases or quality . It's an endless series of PR battles, fought by higher ups and businessmen. Konami, and its consumption of franchises, has become a well-oiled machine. Konami has changed. People carrying Konami cellphones with Konami games, using Konami tags. Fake happyness inside their minds control what they play and buy. Apps control. Information control. Emotion control. Cellphone control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. Konami has changed. The age of great games has become the age of mobile gaming. All in the name of a greedy corporation trying to shift their original focus. And he who controls the mobile games, controls the market. Konami has changed. When the plattforms are under total control, Konami... becomes routine.

As long as they don't follow the same example of Kenji Inafune then I won't alienate their games.
I love the mentality video game companies have now where they're in the "cool kids club" and they decide what we like and try to shove it down our throats. =/

Konami made so many awesome MSX titles and my personal favourite games are Castlevania: SOTN, the NDS/GBA Castlevania titles, Snatcher (Mega CD, PSX & Saturn) and Policenauts. Although I did enjoy Bishi Bashi Special and Parodius series.

What's so frustrating to me is Konami holding the rights to a lot of the Hudson Soft IP. Bomberman especially. I am desperate to play a good, classic Bomberman game in online multiplayer. NDS Bomberman Touch was not too bad but best Bomberman game was Saturn Bomberman for sure.

Konami have always been this way with their creative staff however. Treasure (Gunstar Heroes/Guardian Heroes/Radiant Silvergun etc) were made up of former disgruntled Konami employees. Konami being ass merchants is nothing new. Konami died creatively around about Pro Evolution 6 lol...

In respect to Kojima: Kojima did mention how he wanted to tell stories in expansive universes as in MGS but also Snatcher/Policenauts. Kojima could not pursue a traditional adventure game format because Konami execs figured it was not profitable. My dream scenario is now that Kojima is free of the shackles of Konami, he should definitely revisit the visual novel/text adventure format and maybe come up with a spiritual successor to Snatcher ideally. Steingate/Virtues Last Reward has proven that visual novels(and games with heavy vis nov influences) can still sell well if the story is good.

Kojima will end up directing some movie though I would imagine... But here's hoping...

i agree! he should do a kickstarter just like kogi igarashi did and if he did a VN format id have no doubt he get all the funds he needs in like a day ^^ just look at this kickstarter for example
http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230485

this pretty much shows japanese companies that their is a strong market for these kinds of games in the west ^^
thier starting goal was $250,000 but by the end of the kickstarter they got $1,255,444!!! 5 times the amount they wer expecting ^^

Noblewine
Nov 29, 2015, 04:24 PM
I doubt they will actually listen to us or anyone concerns because of the bad choices they want to make. A kickstarter is risky to be honest though I'm sad about the direction they want to take now.

konami no, Kojima yes, kojima is not affiliated with Konami anymore. So Kojima can start a kickstarter just like Kogi Igarashi(castlevania creator who left konam) did for Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, and Keiji Inafune(megaman creator who left capcom) did for Mighty Number 9.

As long as they manage to make enough money from people with gambling problems, they won't be going under any time soon.

They still hold the rights to the big name IP's released throughout the years. Unless, they're in a dire situation where they need to sell off their prominent IP's and/or have a decline in their targeted market, it'll just be another cash grab scheme after another.

Outrider
Feb 10, 2016, 11:32 AM
Well, they've already announced Castlevania Erotic Violence Pachinko or whatever it's called, so uh... they're definitely doing something with the old licenses.

But yeah, Konami is a much larger company than just their games business. So even if their games division wasn't making bank via their mobile games (and my understanding is they're doing very well), they have a number of other very profitable businesses.

All I want them to do is make the original Metal Gear Solid available on the Vita in the US so that I can play it on my Playstation TV. That would make me happy.

blace
Feb 10, 2016, 01:33 PM
The Castlevania erotic pachinko was a start. I recall they're working on a Silent Hill themed set of pachinko machines to go with it.

As long as they're able to pull in reasonable income without taking too many hits, it won't be long until Metal Gear gets a themed one or a mobile cash grabber.
