Attributes and Potential Unlocks!

Hello all!

I have a simple question:

If I have an existing Potential Unlocked weapon, then I try and add abilities to this weapon; do I run the risk of losing the special potential unlocked ability?

Is it overwritten completely? Or does it stick around?
