View Full Version : Regarding Windows 10 (it works)

Just in case no one has posted this somewhere, I've installed the latest preview built Windows 10 today on a virtual Machine as well as PSO2. Once GameGuard updated itself, the game started. I didn't get past the password screen since it was a VM and was it lagging too much to do anything major, but it worked, GameGuard did not crash.

07/05/2015 UPDATE: Well, I've installed PSO2 on my old Media PC after installing Windows 10. Had to tweak the game by making it think that it's running under Windows 7, but it worked, sort of. I get into the game, but I can't stay over 1 minutes before it crashes, so ya, sorry for the false hope. That being said, I've contacted INCA regarding GameGuard, I've posted their reply in a new post in this topic.

07/07/2015 Update: If you launch PSO2, you'll see a GameGuard Update, this fixes these issues and PSO2 can now run on the latest preview of Windows 10

Those are good news, but I'll wait for the official release. Not long time ago, I installed Windows 10 preview and PSO2. Yes, Gameguard updated itself and yes, I did get past the password screen, but after 2 minutes or so, the game crashed. I'll wait a month, is not that long

So does PSO2 runs better on Win10 compared to Win7 or 8?
The only thing that matters to me.

Yeah... until you've actually gone past the login screen you can't exactly call it playable. As DrCatco exemplifies, there can be other issues that cause it to crash than Gameguard alone.

it crashed after the loggin screen for me.

There's a rumor that it'll coming out next month (http://www.pcworld.com/article/2928797/newegg-just-leaked-the-windows-10-price-and-release-date.html), but im not really sure.

Windows 10 is available from 29th July. Any PC currently running 7 or 8/8.1 will be offered a free upgrade via windows update for 1 year after release. there will be a icon in your taskbar offering the free upgrade if you qualify. You can accept or deny it.

My advice is to hold off for a few weeks if you are in anyway concerned or its your only pc. Let the IT pros figure it out first.

My plan is to take an image of my C drive and plonk it on a spare drive so if win10 don't work with PSO2 I'm not on the fast track to a rebuild. I just simply pop the backup image on my ssd and off I go. Paragon migrate to SSD is awesome for this.

I'mma just install it on another Hard Drive.

remember you will need to install 7/8 before win10 is released then wait for the upgrade option so you can sign up for it. I'm not sure what will happen for new windows 7/8 installs after the date. best to get sorted before hand.

Well I still have my old media PC that I've built back in 2009 and I use to run PSO2 on it. Guess I can always install the Windows 10 preview on that and then see how PSO2 runs on it.

I have Windows 7 at the moment and reserved Windows 10. I wonder how things will go if I upgrade to Windows 10 when it's out and have to re-install due to the fact that I may be replacing my existing hard drive with another one and an SSD sometime soon. Would I be able to re-use Windows 10 with the key that may be there on a fresh install or would I have to end up paying? :v

SEGA already released a statement about 2 weeks ago (http://pso2.jp/players/news/?id=6309) saying that Windows 10 does not work with the current preview.

They've also said that you should not upgrade to Windows 10 on the 29th of July until they can confirm PSO2 works with it (assuming, of course, PSO2 is important to you).

specifically they said it might not, but didnt garuntee it won't work. It's entirely possible, (and within thier best interests) to make it work as fast as possible after all.

Consider they updated GG to be Windows 8.1 compatible the day before it was released, so there is a chance it will be updated before Windows 10 releases.

It's honestly retarded that it doesn't work because it's never PSO2 it's always stupid GameGuard. That crap needs to die it serves no purpose but to make our lives miserable ugh. It honestly shouldn't be that hard to update GameGuard so that it knows Windows 10 exists and then it will work perfectly fine.

Got a reply from INCA regarding GameGuard:

--------------------------------------------------------
Hello, this is Game Security Center from INCA Internet Co., Ltd.

We are also aware of the compatibility issue with Windows 10.
We have built hotline and communicated with Microsoft to react the compatibility issue.
Currently we are testing with the latest version of Build 10152 before the official version is released.
If there is no big difference between the Build 10152 and the official version,
the GameGuard will be updated for all the games in July after testing.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact [email protected]

Thank you.

Best regards

They just stated that PSO2 "may" not compatible with Windows 10 on it's release day, but they're aware about the compability issue and is currently working on it.
It is possible that PSO2 will works just fine on Win10 on release day, but they don't promise you anything so don't hold high your hope.

If you getting the free upgrade from Windows 7 or 8, you won't be able to clean install in the sense that you can't format and just install Windows 10, you'll need to clean install you previous OS first (install SP1 in the case of Windows 7) and then upgrade to Windows 10.

Gama

i was able to do a clean install with windows 8 when it came out, so i supose there will be a way to do it at some point.

but i already figured i might have to do a clean install of 8.1 and then upgrade to 10 to prevent bullshit.

I wonder if PSO2 will make use of DirectX12 on Windows 10...

I'll probably just wait a few weeks for the Windows 10 hype to settle before I install it, because you don't know what will happen if there's bugs on the first day releases and stuff.

No, since PSO2 are written to run using DX9, except that if they're patching the game which i doubt that they'll do that at all.

You can also upgrade to Windows 10 first and then do a clean re-install.

Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading?

Yes. Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need to purchase Windows 10 or go back to your prior version of Windows and upgrade again.
You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

Using a virtual machine is not really a good way to test something like this.

Well, you first made this topic a week ago saying that it worked when it actually didn't, you said it yourself that it was lagging too much to do anything major, so basically you weren't able to test it properly back then.

I said I made it to the password screen and it lagged too much. I since then lowered the resolution to be able to keep doing the tests in there. Haven't you notice the shitty 800*600 resolution?

Well, you didn't say that you were testing now at lower settings, for all I know you could have always been testing at 800x600.

Your first test using a VM was inaccurate, so it's normal for me to be skeptical.

Hmm, but just reaching in-game is not enough, since as far as I know gameguard kicks you out after a bit (I have no idea how long you stayed in-game, if it was long enough to test it properly and such).

Though seeing this post, it does seem like it works.

Ya, it works well, I took my cash from my items that were sold, took the daily reward from the visiophone and talked to some NPCs to return some completed client orders.

Ok, 3hrs in and no crash so far (I ran some quests, tried story mode, switched to various blocs/casino...).
I expected some bugs along the way, but it seems to be really stable.

The Game DVR from the xbox app works perfectly for recording the game as well.

Hi Importer,

Was this test just the game itself or was this test conducted with the tweaker? I am interested in knowing if the tweaker is compatible with Win10.

Just the game itself. I don't think the Tweaker would impact anything for the game. That being said, the Tweaker itself could simply not open or something, but I doubt it, Windows 10 is basically Windows 8.1 with a Start menu.

Thanks for clarifying.

One of my teammates is currently having issues with the tweaker running in Win10 on his VM. He mentioned "Inxput0402.dll is missing the error message reads." That's why I wanted to confirm if your tests included launching with the tweaker.

Good to know that the game itself will work though =)
