Sigh. Why does every EQ have to devolve into Gels farming? Both Kuron and Beach Wars became nothing but a mad dash for Nyau with everyone quitting the second they didn't see Gels. I sure as hell don't want to see that happen again here since I'm after the Double and Apprentice spawns.

The sooner Gal gets removed from EQs, the better.

Because SEGA is baiting people with 13 stars and Gal Gryphon appears for that reason.
It sucks, I know.

Imagine if they added fun new gameplay modes instead of rehashing old EQs or the same old EQ types.
It'd be so much better. Boss battle mode pls :(

The main issue is that base dagger S-atk is so low, that percentages granted by potentials are much more significant than for other weapon types.

I'm still waiting for weapon -> weapon camo system, for any weapon.

That's never going to happen. Think about it this way. SEGA loves to use new, slightly stronger weapons to incentivize content. SEGA also loves attaching cosmetic items to AC Scratch. If they let us convert any weapon into a weapon camo, that means that every single time that they want to incentivize content, SEGA has to consider that they're automatically adding a new, free cosmetic item.

Ergo: SEGA's not going to do that, no matter how much we want it.

TaigaUC
Oct 20, 2015, 10:36 PM
I was thinking that they might do it because it'd help get rid of all the trash rares flooding marketplace.
It'd also give people incentive to go farm those old rares. SEGA loves to make us farm old content.

To counter such a system being free, they could implement some AC items for changing the colors, or something.
So, I don't think it's an impossibility.... but who knows how they'll screw it up.

The saddest part is that even if I could convert any knuckles into a camo, I don't think there's a single one I'd want to use.
They're pretty much all ugly to me, except for Fighting Beat and we already got a camo of that (even though its colors are meh).
Edit: I take that back. Crazy Galactis would make a nice camo.

Anyway, sorry for going off-topic.

One suggestion involves simply adding new accessories and trade-ins, and the other suggestion involves implementing an entirely new type of item along with a new system to utilize that item.

The problem is that 13* weps are part Sega's idea of current endgame content. Any quests that come out in the future will have some way to drop 13* weps, and that will be considered endgame.

Sooner or later, 13* will be replaced with 14* and then 15*. And to think that this is supposed to last... how many more years?

If the EQ didn't drop 13* then people would just ignore it.

Sega needs to find a way to reward people for playing these EQs that arent just 13*s and excubes. I think the lambda grinders from e-trials are a step in the right direction. Problem is, they're way too rare and you always get gold badges. Maybe also have Photon boosters as a random drop from bosses. (They won't do that since they want people to play c-mode...)

Just a thought: If they rewarded players with some kind of badges or other non-tradeable items that you could exchange for AC, that'd be cool. Of course the exchange rate would have to be something like 250 badges for 50 AC, and they cannot be obtained through meseta, only by playing quests and such.

On topic: From my experience, the Nyau at D-2 always spawns Gryphon; C-1 is Guranz, C-2 is Cougar, and A-1 is either Vardha or Double if a Nyau shows up there (50% chance). This works.

Still a shame everyone faps over 13* yet there is no content right now that needs it unless you want to try max run EQs or clear TAs faster. Adding Gal to EQs kinda kills the EQ if people mass abandon cause obv powercreep farming. Ruins the fun for me for this entire game actually.

The thing about an MMORPG, is that for it to succeed, it expects the average player to keep coming back for hundreds, if not thousands of hours.

No game in the entire world actually has a thousand hours worth of content. So, to actually get an MMORPG to work, it needs to devise ways to stretch out its content. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and there are good ways, and bad ways, of doing this.

PSO2 has a decent content base. Fighting enemies, when there's an actual element of challenge involved, is very fun. In fact, no other ARPG I've ever played has quite as engaging of combat as PSO2 does. However, SEGA stretches out PSO2's content in all the wrong ways.

To reach endgame in PSO2, you need to do all of the following:

•Unlock all difficulties.
•Unlock all missions.
•Reach the level cap on every class.
•Obtain max level PAs and Techniques for your class and subclass.
•Obtain Meseta for use in other goals.
•Obtain maxed out equipment.
•Reach the crafting level cap.
•Decorate your character to your liking(Humor me on this, I'll explain it later).

Now, by themselves, those could make for very well-done MMORPG character development. However, look at how you actually accomplish all of that:

Unlock all difficulties:

•Run certain missions. (For client orders)
Unlock all missions:

•Run certain missions.
•Run certain missions. (For client orders)
Reach the level cap on every class.

•Run certain missions. (For client orders)
•Run any missions.
Obtain max level PAs and Techniques for your class and subclass.

•Run any missions. (RNG)
•Run certain missions. (RNG) (For specific discs)
Obtain Meseta.

•Run certain missions. (For client orders)
•Run certain missions. (For items to sell) (RNG) |OR| AC Scratch. (For items to sell) (RNG) (AC Content)
Obtain maxed out equipment.

•Weapons: Run certain missions. (RNG) |OR| Purchase from player shop. (AC Content)
•Units: Run certain missions. (RNG) |OR| Purchase from player shop. (AC Content)
•Affixes: Run certain missions. (RNG) |OR| Purchase from player shop. |+| Use Meseta. (RNG)
•Grinds: Run any missions. (RNG) |OR| Purchase from player shop. |+| Use Meseta. (RNG)
•Lambda Grinds: Run certain missions. (RNG) |OR| Purchase via Casino Coins (RNG) |OR| Complete certain client orders. |+| Use Meseta. (RNG)
Reach the crafting level cap. (This is completely optional, you can simply request crafts from other players)

•Run any missions. (RNG) |OR| Purchase from player shop. |+| Use Meseta. (RNG)
Decorate your character to your liking.

•AC Scratch. (RNG) (AC Content) |OR| Purchase from player shop.

Almost every single requirement has you running missions. And, for a lot of them, the 'certain missions' are time-restricted Emergency Quests.

What does running a mission generally entail?

•Kill any enemies.
•Kill any enemies within a time limit.
•Kill certain enemies. (When solo: Failure if you die in the final area)
•Kill certain enemies within a time limit.
•Kill certain enemies within a time limit. (When solo: Failure if you die in the final area)

And that's it. Time limits in the game are absurdly generous to the point where they're pretty much irrelevant in 99.99% of quests, with the only relevant time limit I can think of off the top of my head being Magatsu Sai's quest. This essentially creates a scenario where basically the only time you can actually fail is by running solo and dying, and that only applies to some quests. SEGA rarely attempts to add additional components to quests. The few things that do, are Extreme Quests, Story Quests, Mining Base Defense, some ARKS Quests, Time Attack Quests, and Challenge Quests.
Extreme Quests allow you to optionally kill enemies in specific ways in order to increase your rewards.
Story Quests shake things up in a similar manner to Time Attack Quests, but offer no rewards that contribute to endgame, only rewards which help you get there quicker.
Mining Base Defense offers no endgame rewards.
SEGA has officially stopped adding ARKS Quests with unique objectives since Episode 3 began.
Time Attack Quests are actually unique, but incentivized in a poor way that makes requires the player to run them once each week and completely disregards how well you've actually performed.
Challenge Quests are the most unique, actually reward the player based on performance, and have good rewards, some of which are even relevant to endgame. However, rewards require you to perform them multiple times over and they're nearly the same each time around, lending to them becoming stale. It could be remedied by implementing more of them.

Compare this to how Mabinogi (used to be). To reach endgame in Mabinogi, you had to:

•Cap all skills.
•Obtain maxed out gear for your playstyle.
•Decorate your character to your liking.
•Minor unlocks.

Wow, sounds like a lot less than PSO2. But how do you actually do that?

Cap all skills.

•Learn all skills: This is different for every single skill. I can't even simplify this. Examples: Ice Bolt: Purchase the Ice Bolt skill book and use it. Barrier Spikes: Complete a certain story quest. Blaze: Get other skills to a certain level, then complete a multi-part mission which entails using a unique weapon until it breaks, then completing a dungeon unique to that specific quest. Fireball: Complete a quest which has you find ten different missing pages to a book. Every single page drops from a different place or enemy. (RNG) Fusion Bolt: Complete a quest which entails charging a Bolt spell right next to another player using a different Bolt spell. Hail Storm: Defeat certain enemies. One of the enemies is a Mirror Witch, which can only be spawned by killing a boss of a specific dungeon in a highly specific way. These are just a few examples.
•Train all skills: Again, different for every single skill. Some require you defeat enemies of certain strengths using the skill. Some require skill books to advance. (RNG) Crafting skills require you to perform specific levels of crafting recipes. Utility skills require that you utilize them in specific ways. Some skills even require you to fail using them(IE, learning from your mistakes).
•Gain AP by leveling up. Each skill requires different amounts of AP. You gain 1 AP every level up. You can 'rebirth' to level 1 every week.
Obtain maxed out gear for your playstyle.

•Gear: Defeat certain enemies. (RNG) |OR| Complete certain dungeons. (RNG) |OR| Purchase from special shops. |OR| Purchase from players. |OR| Miscellaneous obtaining methods.
•Upgrades: Use the gear so that it gains Proficiency. |+| Expend Proficiency plus miscellaneous items for upgrades.
•Enchants: Defeat certain enemies. (RNG) |OR| Complete certain dungeons. (RNG) |OR| Purchase from special shops. |OR| Purchase from players. |OR| Miscellaneous obtaining methods. |+| Enchant using the Enchanting skill. (RNG, influenced by rank of Enchanting)
•Overgrades: Run certain missions. (RNG) |OR| Purchase from special shops. |OR| Purchase from players. |+| Use gold. (RNG)
•Spirit Weapon: Raise a compatible weapon to 100% Proficiency. |+| Complete a certain multi-part quest. |+| Feed the weapon items(Kind of like a Mag).
Decorate your character to your liking.

•This is where it gets -really- different from PSO2. While some cosmetic items are cash content, most can be obtained in-game through a variety of methods, including drops from certain dungeons or enemies, from NPC shops, from special shops, and from crafting, which itself entails harvesting materials and sometimes even finding rare materials from specific places. Different for every item.

Mabinogi has fewer overall goals, but it had way more variety with each than PSO2. Even Mabinogi's 'missions' themselves have much more variety than PSO2, though it's somewhat challenging to explain them without going into detail about the game's mechanics. Anyways, this post is getting waaay long, so I'm gonna cut it off here.

To be fair, there's precedent with event gear like Steel Hearts, Rengokuto Ensa, those event dual blades etc. I don't think we're going to get, say, a Diablo 3 transmog system but I could definitely see a (fairly expensive) way to convert mid to high end rares into non-transferable camos.

It isn't so much that I want more 13*s, but more that I need to 60 ele the ones I have to justify using them over 12*s. And as I struggle to do that, Gels only gives me more and more 13*s I gotta max the ele on at some point while all of my weaps sit at ~30 ele. I swear Sega's doing this on purpose.

EDIT: for those who haven't played mabi before, scroll down to the "training method section" the "method" part is what you need to do, the "Count" is how many times you can do that method before it stops giving exp, "exp" is how much training experience it gives each time (you need 100 to rank up the skill), and "total" is the total exp doing the method as much as you can that rank gives.

The higher ranks require thousands of these things, which required farming tons of mats, and if you failed it wouldn't count. Fun.

Yeah.
This game has some of the poorest game design ever, content distribution wise.
Time and again Sega gives us new content at an ancient snail with heart failure's pace so people get bored and don't play much.
And time and again Sega tries to fix this by adding new stuff that gives twice or more the rewards of existing content.

Thereby constantly making old content pointless and rewarding people for pulling BS like this.
It doesn't occur Sega to really fix old content to even out of the incentives so people like playing old content and don't always make a dash for the new stuff, then drop it a few weeks later when they get bored of that, too.

At most we get bs like ult naberius 2.0 that when all is said and done isn't very different from before.
Sure, enemies take more damage and aren't as aggressive. But when you got more than 2 people and according enemies spawn and actually stand and fight a boss, it quickly turns into the exact same clusterfuck as before.

Finally we're getting an xq upgrade. Took them long enough.
Sega's main problem is that they never really know what people don't like about the content. They think just adding new <CurrentEndgameWeapon> to old content will fix everything. Or throwing more rares at us.

And since it's all about getting more rares and more <CurrentEndgameWeapon> of course people opt for strategies that yield the most of these.

This year's Trick or Treat sure sucks ass.
Everyone just wanders back and forth in the upper right hoping Nyau will spawn, and he doesn't.
And if everyone does do it properly, there's always 1 or 2 people trying to spawn Nyau.
But all they manage to accomplish is spawning tons of enemies that take up the map enemy limit, ensuring no spawns for everyone else.

What a huge waste of time. They should have just called it Trick or Trick.

They may as well have given players a random chance of getting a Gal Gryphon 13 star on completion of the quest instead.
At least then people would actually do the damn thing.

If they had a poll for top three worst additions to PSO2, I'd probably write "1. 13 stars, 2. Extra Hard/Ultimate and 3. Nyau."
Max level only huge damage bonus random rare disks are also terrible. Maybe have that in 3rd place instead of Nyau.

Sega's main problem is that they never really know what people don't like about the content.

More like they don't give a shit. PSO2 is more of a social experiment than a game to them.

It WAS pretty good fun and a decent source of Excubes, until Gal farmers got their teeth into the layout. Today has been nothing but running back and forth down the East side of the map - triggering slow ass Rappy captures, slow ass mech hordes and the odd Nyau who comes bearing the gift of Big Vardha or Cougar. Oh, and everyone has taken to quitting before the end of the quest if the last E-Trial isn't to their liking, which led to a situation just now where the remaining 5 or so of us were left to take down Double.

Seriously, you get more goddamn Gal and Double spawns just running the map normally.

Great, so now (EN) people are making death threats and symbol arts over Nyau farming.
Nice social experiment, SEGA.

I'm doing it hoping Lv17 disks drop. Already got a few, and of course BHS on the account that already has it on every character.

you would rather the game stay on permanent SH?

(lolno)

Obviously I don't mean that, and I didn't say that either.
As I've said many, many times on this forum, VH -> SH was far more interesting than SH -> XH.
Aside from XH Luther, XH is nothing more than +HP to enemies, to facilitate incentive for 13 stars.

Are you saying you're looking forward to playing XXXXH in a few years that's the exact same thing as XH with more HP and 17 stars instead of 13?
Because that seems to be the direction PSO2 is heading.

XH in its current state was a wilful decision. It could have been so much better. That's why it's a shitty addition.

If the game stayed on permanent SH, it'd be exactly as it is now, but with 11 and 12 stars instead of 13 stars.
Except for Ultimate, of course. Ultimate is more like what XH should have been - new enemies, etc.
They could have just named XH "Ultimate" instead of splitting it in two.
Isn't that what people were originally expecting? Because that's how it worked in PSO1, right?

Uh, it's literally Trick or Treat 3, but with more enemies. Literally, how is it possible to be more boring than 3?

Because it's extremely boring waiting for people to finally hit the right face of the jumping houses.

Man, just a couple days ago, everyone ran clockwise around the area. I would farm roughly 30 gold weapon badges. Now people are doing this full retard back n forth trying to trigger NYAU. I got roughly 10 golden badges, and nothing of value lost.

People dont get how spawning and ETs work in the game either clearly, as there'd be a ton of enemies, and we'd just witness 2 scrubs run off to try to get something to happen, and it was just chaos.

I will not touch the EQ again after that. Gal Gryphon is ruining everything.

It's far more convenient because everyone on the MPA know the set rules to farm and doesn't effect people who want to play the quest "normally", it's less intrusive and everyone will be happy that way.

There was a time we had a Nyau code and Nyau itself did not spawn anywhere.
Probably because there were 999999 enemies running all over the map.

I don't really care about the Gal Gryphon 13 stars anymore.
They're nice if they drop, but I ran that Kuronia EQ a ton of times and didn't get any of the ones I was aiming for.
Not worth the time and effort. Especially when the weapons I have seem to already flatten everything.
You know everything's gonna become obsolete soon anyway.

I just wonder what's gonna happen to 13 stars. Will they just become obsolete and be sold off like anything else?
Or will SEGA try to milk old content and require old 13 stars for upgrading to 14 star and above?
Invade is already an example of a 13 star being upgradable, so it's very much a possibility.

A) Magatsu has ~60 million HP.
B) Even Dark Falz Loser has more HP than that.
C) I can deal 100,000 damage easily with a single PA, with no Weakbullet or any setup. It takes all of 1 second to do, and that's an entire half a percent of HP gone in a single second, if 20 million. 12 people at the same level of DPS will absolutely demolish 20 million HP in a matter of seconds.

Nevertheless, 20 million is pitiful. Even if the boss has no weakpoints, no elemental weaknesses, and stays out of range most of the time(It doesn't, according to the trailers), it will still get demolished with ease. The reduction of WB's effectiveness doesn't really help its case in the long run. Even it's reduced to 1.5x damage, that's still an entire +6 persons' worth of DPS in a 12/12 MPA.

They don't provide any HP or PP, so they're begging to be crafted. Assuming you did full HP crafts, Saiki set gives 300 HP and 25 PP, whereas the Double set gives 320 HP and 20 PP, but leaves you with an open rear slot to boost the HP and PP gain further.

For pure survivability, it's better then Saiki, and can potentially be better if you're using an evil weapon for the Magtsuhi set. Maybe they'll release another decent rear unit + weapon set in the future.

No, the problem here are the quitters. You could just as well go the other way around and then hover between D2 and A1. It would just make your overal ratio of good code spawns lower. It's not the end of the world. Really.

TaigaUC
Oct 25, 2015, 06:11 PM
It's a game design issue when SEGA gives people incentive to quit.
Giving people the ability to quit without any kind of punishment is also a game design issue.

13 star being the primary objective makes most of the content meaningless, and somewhat unenjoyable because let's be honest, people just want the damn 13 stars
Nyau placement on the map encourages people to follow a set pattern, for the purpose of obtaining 13 stars. Nyau placement is part of game design.

SEGA has tried to fix Nyau placement before, which somewhat implies they've acknowledged it's an issue they created and that only they can solve.
Did you notice Trick or Treat 4 has a teleporter at the start, unlike Trick or Treat 1-3? That's to help deter 13 star farming.
They did that to the last Beach Wars after it degenerated into 13 star farming.
Didn't entirely solve the problem, obviously. Just made the farming more time consuming.

Another example:
Weak Bullet makes runs twice as fast. Boost ticket system and EQ limited time make people want to rush EQs.
As a result, people quit if there's no WB. These are all circumstances created by SEGA's design.
They could, you know, design it in a way that discourages or nullifies such behavior.

One more example:
Some people don't bother finishing Trick or Treat 4. If they're short on time, or nothing is spawning, they quit and try to get into a new run.
It's a game design issue because of things like random spawn and the incentives SEGA implemented. Simply put, it's more rewarding to quit.
This is actually an issue from a long time ago. People tend to quit quests instead of completing them.
They could fix this by giving more of a reward for completion. As a result, people quitting would miss out on those rewards.
Killing enemies to increase drop rate is one of their methods of deterrent. But that obviously isn't enough compared to fresh new chance at said rare boss dropping 13 stars.

Maybe it's just the way I see things.
As in, there will always be people doing stuff like quitting, or cheating, or whatever. Most of those people won't listen to reason, and will just keep doing it.
It's up to the designer, or whoever's in control of the circumstances, to help deter or solve those issues. They can shape the playing field, so to speak.

For example, I remember when Ragnarok Online used to display everyone's log-in details in packet data, every time someone appears onscreen.
As a result, people would brute-force accounts, killing log-in server and resulting in a ton of hacked people.
In that case, would you simply blame the hackers?
I would blame the developers for being so naive as to assume nobody would see the log-in details sitting in the packet data.
But I want to emphasize that there is never only one factor to blame.
In my view, the situation would never have occurred if the devs didn't slack on security measures. They could easily have prevented it.

I think this is more an issue of responsibilty, as in... what we can do from our side.
If I made such a mistake, I would take responsibility for it.
I feel that SEGA could fix these issues easily, as they're the result of their own construct.
If they didn't design PSO2 to focus on 13 stars, and if they didn't keep using Nyau+Gryphon+13 stars as incentives, then none of these things would be a problem.
They are undeniably a significantly contributing factor to this issue.

Anyway, I'm lacking sleep again and can barely see, so if I say anything weird, that's why.

TaigaUC

I thought of some better examples.

Remember when people used to kill Magatsu in a few seconds with Chain Trigger?
Then SEGA said they'd ban us if we did that. I heard they banned a bunch of innocent people?
But isn't it mostly their fault for designing it that way?

Hackers used to be able to move NPCs and players all over the place. I dunno if they can still send global whispers.
Sure, hackers are doing something bad, and they're at fault for causing trouble.
But why should a client be able to give the server admin-like orders, and then send those changes to other players?
I don't think I've ever played any other online game that allowed that.
AFAIK, it's not like SEGA needs to remotely control PSO2 from a client in their home.
They can just go to the office or whatever and directly make changes.

Anyway, it varies with the circumstances. I guess it boils down to something like this:
If you have a hand in creating a bad situation, some responsibility for it lies with you.
If there's nothing you can do, or could have done, then it can't be helped.
But if you could have done something, and did nothing, then you ought to deserve some blame.

Regardless of the situation, the most important thing is to learn from your mistakes.
There's no point punishing, blaming or whining if the person has already moved on and improved.

Back on topic regarding the popular farming method (ie. top right), most of the Trick or Treat 4's I've been only ever see one or two Gryphons at most.

I don't understand why the farming method doesn't include the right side or south side.
Nyau seems to appear pretty often in those places.

Nyaus do spawn in those places but so do crashing gunships for code protects which are huge wastes of time.

The top right spawn node doesn't produce code protects.

Not really. For one it avoids the issue the "open" EQs have with people leaving and joining whenever, which can get annoying when you're doing your second plus runs and suddenly find yourself with exactly two other people on the field because everyone else was close to finishing when you joined.

One of my runs (organized one), we managed to spawn 12 Gal Gryphons, and 6 of them been rare variant. =w=

grats you won a price, finally some1 who knows how to farm ToT4

Spawns are still RNG so organized is still best but on my last tot4 rappy code ended up trolling the entire mpa using this method. It was 20min+ in team mpa and got 0 gry spawn organize, I think we got just 1 on that last run doing team mpa so it was very bad on my last EQ. In general cos of RNG you may still get gry spawns on either organized or random block EQ. Knowing the method I'd consider best but don't be surprised if a random (pug) mpa over organized will always get you more chance at the gry boss for best chance for 13* drops.

I got 5 gryphs Saturday night, 4 of which were rare. None of them dropped anything, naturally :T

Taiga > what you said did not sound stupid, by any means. I still blame quitters ;)

Thanks. Well, take me for example.
I'm so sick of wasting time on PSO2 without results that I WILL quit under some circumstances.
But I don't like to inconvenience other people. I don't like to be the only one that leaves.

The other day, I left a Magatsu run at the teleporter because I saw the same people from the previous terrible run who did nothing but sit on turrets.
I felt bad about it, because they already started the teleporter.
But as a result of that, instead of two shit runs, I got 1 shit run and two very good runs.
In that sense, I was rewarded for being selfish, and I hate that.

I think that SEGA could easily prevent that kind of situation by changing the system so that everyone can do 4 runs.
They could also reduce reliance on WB, or incentive for hunting 13 stars that never drop. Fixing stuff like that reduces incentive to quit.
That's why I think a lot of it is in their hands. They could really make everything different.

Anyway I came here to bump this topic because, I've been noticing spawns in T&T4 that I'd never seen before, like the pumpkin+toy robot spawning at the circular area instead of the top section or left large area.
Did SEGA ninja change T&T4 or has it always been this way? Anyone else feel it may have been changed?

I've never seen that ET happen there before, either.

I also don't believe I saw Double spawn at the block above that one until the first maintenance after the quest had been implemented, either.

I don't think that's new, I've seen the pumpkin code spawn in the circular area a lot. RNG can be a bitch, especially when there's onion layers of it to deal with.

Yeah, the joys of random. Thanks.

I tried doing T&T4 on a Vita block and almost nothing spawned. Spent tons of time running around with nothing happening.
Codes were so rare it took about 20 minutes for a single run.

Was in a run where some guy ran through the entire map spawning everything and then left.
As soon as people realized what was up they left too.

Awesome!
